Ultimately, Hirds Family Fisheries were crowned winners of the show, alongside joint winners Simpsons fish and chip shop from Cheltenham.
Hirds Family Fisheries is a family - run business, operated by Adam Hird, his wife Alison, daughter Amber and son Aiden.
Adam Hird said: "It was a huge honour for us to represent our industry on a television show and to be the only fish and chip shop in Yorkshire selected to take part.
Now it's time for The MacMaster to review what has been hailed as The UK's Best Fish and Chips.

It did look really good. I initially thought that the fish batter looked just a little pale, but I realized the sun was probably hitting on it. I'd give it a 10 on appearance.
There was a programme about BBC childrens TV last week, very interesting, from the 50s up to present day, took me back from my watching to my kids and grandkids. Fish and chips looked good. I do like wandering around UA-cam, watching people on holiday(which is how I first found you), and other interesting programmes about all sorts of things.
When John Noakes left Blue Peter he done a programme called Go With Noakes where he and Shep drove around Britain in a battered Morris Minor Convertible anyway years later I wrote to his agent asking about this car, about a month later I was busy minding my own business doing some film editing and the phone rang, it was John Noakes from Majorca full of info on this Morris Minor, now I wish I had told him that he was my hero when I was a Kid but I didnt want to gush or sound weird lol. Tonights video meal is a pizza followed by ice cream Lee.
Fair play that all looked absolutely bang on. Soon as you broke the batter and you could see the white chunky flakey fish you could tell it was the real deal. Plenty of chips, peas and sauce looked on point. Don’t really know what else you could do if that’s not getting a 10.
Looks like they deserve their awards!! Good luck to them!!
The bloke on the UK and Australian play school was Don Spencer, his daughter Danielle Spencer was married to rusty Crowe. Great video as always. Cheers mate 👍

Exactly what you want, cheery staff dispensing great food which tastes great at a competitive price, can’t fault how it was presented, how it looked either! Not surprised they won👍

Don Spencer was probably the presenter you're thinking about! He was a legendary children's presenter from the 70s to the late 90s in Australia and he featured in the British version of Play School too

That looked absolutely amazing Lee. Everything about it from the food and friendly staff. Those black pudding fries sound lovely. I have had battered black pudding up in Mablethorpe many a time when on holiday there👌👌. I need to try here when I’m in Yorkshire. Not surprised it got the awards it did. Got to go with a 10/10 here. I think the key points here are; family business, love of what they provide / pride / reputation, and that the customer is going to be satisfied and will come BACK. The fact they came out and saw you once you were do just says it all. A well deserved 10. Oddly here peas and curry are not an option. Long live fish and chips!

Love my white fish, haddock, halibut, cod and/or pollock, with chips, but here the sides are coleslaw, tartar and/or mushy peas.

"Play Away" was on Saturday afternoons, rather than "Play School's" weekdays! I remember it being more musical number oriented.

Magpie featured Susan Stranks, Tony Bastable and Doug something when I waas a kid. They came to RAF Wattisham for a SAR demonstration, a yellow Budgie Sea King rescued Sue from the swimming pool. The Magpie Vulcan was in attendance too. The painters had stecilled Murgatroyd on the cabin door.
Here in the U.S. I have always yearned for real fish & chips. The closest thing we had was an Arthur Treacher’s franchise back in the 70’s when I was a pre-teen. It was very tasty as I recall, but what did I know?? The place had a miniature golf course ⛳️ on the grounds. I have fond memories of eating fish and chips then playing mini golf.

British Playschool ran ran from 21 April 1964 until 11 March 1988. Australia also has a version that started on 18 July 1966 and is still running to this day. It was a staple for me and many children when when they were kids here in Australia.

I was a contestant on a TV gameshow a few years ago called Tellystack that was presented by Paul Ross - they had a star guest on each show and on my show it was Mick Robertson - He was a lovely chap and took the time to have a chat with us - He didn't look much different apart from the grey hair

I'm the same way about fish and chips. So hard to find a properly prepared dinner. I will make my own when I find good fish at the market. Also use the same batter for other things to fry up. Love the channel Lee, 10 out of 10.

Can you remember the black and white tv show Robinson Crusoe ? It always seemed to be on during the holidays and had a haunting theme tune ! I think it was maybe made in France and just had a narrator

Not a bad fish n chips. The batter made me think there was skin on the fish due to the lighting of the camera shot. Obviously there wasn’t any skin when you cut into it. Nice peas and love the traditional curry sauce from any chippy. Considering you have been so ill it’s a good sign if you are getting appetite back. Take care 😘👍🏻

It's like Faulty Towers, they only did 12 episodes of that!!! You should have got Irish, it's lovely, and spicy! You got to try it somewhere 😁 Looks like they got batter bits/scraps there, illegal!! Unless they are cooked separately to everything else, most places do them, and the law isn't really enforced, just like their 'vinegar' can't be called that as it's non brewed condiment 😆 They did look great, batter looked good and you could see the spices/pepper I think in it :) I like the sound of their loaded chips too and great pricing throughout! 9.5/10!

You should try the preserved chippys at the Black Country Museum in Dudley West Midlands. The smell of beef dripping is great. I think they still have the Victorian chippy as well as the 1930s chippy where i used to have my fish and chips as a kid.

Yes, the fish and chips looked nice enough to me. I am curious about the battered black pudding strips though, it just sounds wrong to batter it but maybe they're nice. Wouldn't want any apple sauce near mine if I had any though.

How reasonable was that fish and chips, I'm in Essex my local 'chain' fish and chip shop want £9.15 for large cod and £3.99 for large chips and it's never that good.
Same.. my local want 9:50 for cod and 11 for haddock. Plus £4 for small chips.
