TLDR: mouse over has been replaced with click casting if you want something other than 1,2,3 target macros consider looking into it.
Stop using mouse over macros, the functionality is built into the game now. It's in settings>keybinds>click casting> check box for "mouseover cast"
Using this setting makes it so that if your mouse isn't on anything it heals you, so you can heal while running, then mouse over works when you go to heal your team. It also works offensively for things like shadow word: death when clicking on enemy frames. All of this without losing my original target. IE I can keep the focus target targeted the entire time, throw out dots and specific damage by clicking on enemy frames, heal by clicking on ally frames and if I cast healing spells they go to myself if I have an enemy targeted (only exception being penance obviously).
Admittedly there is one small issue with this newly added functionality (just added this xpack) which is that it will count your built in mouse over casts (click cast) as being on a target if you are hovering over their actual character (not just their frame) an issue can arise from this if you have something like a demo warlock on your team because the entire screen is covered in his summoned crap so you can sometimes be intending to heal yourself but have heals go towards one of his imps. Same thing for damage with a demo on the other team I could intend my damage to go to my focus target but because my mouse is over one of his imps it will damage the imp instead.

I was doing the major things right, but it’s the small things that add up.
This didn’t happen with the skillcapped UA-cam vids, I was already doing those things. It’s the minor things that added up for me.
Sterge do you think you could do a video of your addons as a healer and maybe some of your macros please and thank you. Also is there an addon that tracks your opponent cds I’m still a little new to wow and I’m not sure exactly when people pop there burst so as a disc priest I often press my damage reduction to late.
for opponent cds most people use omnibar (default setting for it is to track interrupts, but you can set any bars you want for offensive or defensive opponents cds also)
