I’ve played this game a long time ago, but now I have the opportunity to introduce it to new players. I was incredibly rusty on the rules, but your video did an amazing job of capturing everything I need to know to explain it to the new players. Thank you!
Yep. The app is free on Steam. We've got it on a touchscreen Chromebook and it works like charm with all the mouse and keyboard inputs you need. It's perfect.
@@GreysonDKB- I love it!! Just like Mansions of Madness, the app is a Huge Help! I can’t imagine the game without it. Way more people like apps like this than don’t! They’re here to stay (and help). My humble opinion is, those who dislike have their reasons, but I think they’re missing out.
4:26 This helps out so much. I could'nt figure out what to do whenever I pull out a card from the deck that has inspiration icons on the top left. I didn't know that means I can spend inspiration icon and turn it to a success token.
My husband just bought this for me. Now I need friends to play with. 😂 I'm going to start a solo campaign tonight. I read the book but this video helped me visualize it better. Thanks!
The game is great! Combat can be a lot more tricky than the game lets you believe. Id say its possible to die very quickly if you don't get smart and lucky. My issue with this game is how vague the rules are. If you could clarify, I would appreciate your help for two rules I do not understand. 1. Does the armor card get flipped or put into the deck after use? 2. What are the items I should have at ready? I'm on scenario 3 and haven't used any. When I read the rules. It says have weakness, fear and items ready. Im trying to figure out if the items are the ones with weaknesses and other things thats not pathfinder 4-12 or captain 4-12
1. Unless specified on the card itself, armor remains in play and isn't flipped after use. 2. The term 'Items' refers to specific cards: Armor, trinkets, and anything with a hand icon. Each character can have 1 trinket, 1 of each armor type and up to 2 hands worth of item cards ready at the start of an adventure. (Weaknesses and cards for your character/role aren't items and stay in your skill deck.) Hope this helps clarify things somewhat!
thank you sir, picked it up yesterday. had a lot of fun aside from using the app on a phone. Cleared up some important details we must have overlooked like the threat meter increasing per character via undiscovered threats and areas and only being allowed to use each weapon ability once per attack.
I just got this game and this video helped a lot. I was wanting to get the shadowed paths expansion pack and im wondering if the heros from that expansion are compatable with the base game and if the base game heros are playable in the expansion. I would assume yes but I figured id ask because i cant find anything on it.
I was soo excited when they announced this. Mansions Of Madness is my fav tabletop game, and LOTR is my fav IP. Should of been a marriage made in heaven. For some reason I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. Doesn't have alot going on, on the tabletop. Maybe TOO much app integration?
You should still give it a try, I was in the same boat as you and I thought the same thing, and I just said f it, and it was worth the purchase in my opinion :)
Can one play the game immidiatly with the expensions. Bought the game preowned with all expensions unfortunatly this means al the cards are thrown together :(
Confused on Hidden boon. How does it work with the provoke rules? If I’m in a space with enemies and I use a card with the Hide keyword, does it mean I can leave without provoking, stealthily? Does it mean I can enter new areas with enemies without provoking, or interacting with tokens, etc? Does it mean you are truly invisible? Card says if attacked, prevent all damage and discard, so I assume you can be seen. I just don’t get what it’s actually doing.
Hidden doesn't work as though the enemy can't see you funnily enough. How it works is should an enemy attack you you can discard the card to stop all damage or of you attack an enemy you can add an additional success to your test. You can interpret this as if you negate the damage the enemy wasn't sure of your exact location causing them to miss or your attack against them went unseen allowing for a more direct hit
Great, thank you :) only one mistake as far as I know - you don't do the last stand test when reaching your damage/fear limit, you do it when exceeding the limit (i.e. your fear limit is 5, you receive fifth fear card, nothing happens, then you receive sixth fear card and this is the point of the last stand test or whatever it is called in english).
Glad you like the video! From what I can see, the rulebook uses the phrasing "equal to or greater than", meaning you would enact a Last Stand test when meeting the limit - But maybe this is a small difference in the translation of different versions of the game? (As a side note, there was also some errata which states that if your number of 'faceup' fear or damage cards meets the limit, you must fail the test automatically.)
I know you did this video a year ago. I'm interested in the game but, I'm not sure if I want to spend the $100 on an app driven game. I was wondering what your thoughts on this might be. Just curious? If you get this message, I'd like to see your thoughts on this. Thanks.
Well admittedly our campaign ground to a halt when we all socially isolated, and then it just never hit the table again cause the right people never showed up. We actually enjoyed playing it when we did, but I think the issue for our group it is hard to start up a campaign after its been on pause for so long. So I guess I would think the biggest issue would be how your group feels about campaign games, because that will be a major factor if it is worth the price to you.
We just tried a 5P game for our first time playing. We are all experienced board gamers and D&D players. Granted, we weren’t savvy on the rules and probably should have been more patient learning it before we started. It wasn’t what we expected and we spent a lot of time frustrated and confused, which colored our impression of this first experience. If you’ve played similar games (maybe Mansion of Madness or even Castle Ravenloft maybe?) you might enjoy it more than we did so far. i’m willing to give another try but I don’t suspect the other four players are.
During the action phase I can do as many actions as I want. The app doesn't stop me or say I did, let say, 3 moves instead of allowed 2. I should count and forbid players to do more or how does that work?
You may ONLY conduct two actions. The app does not stop you because it does not know the turn order of the players/characters, because you can go in any order the party chooses.
My only gripe about the game is the threat meter... if you have 5 players... you gain 10 threat each round.. not counting unexlored tiles.. so you basicly have 5-6 turns to complete the mission.
My friends and I (5 total) played this game recently and really didn't like how fast the bar filled and how many enemies kept spawning. First mission: failed. Maybe we'll give it another try but maybe not.
Yes, at high player counts the sliding threat level mechanic feels like it 'accelerates.' But with five players that is potentially 120 actions to be taken in pursuit of the objective, so it scales nicely and works well. The math of the game check out.
I don´t understand if I use for example 1 weapon with lethal and 2 hits and 1 on the other hand with sunder and 3 hits. The app only allows combined attacks means I can´t let it first count the sunder atack then the lethal attack which ends up in 5 hits lethal and sunder at the same time which feels heavily broken because anything up to 10 HP in this case will die instantly.
Each of those is a separate attack all in the same attack action. I Just played this game, So if you have a wep that has 1 success to give 2 hits and sunder, the other affect is 3 hits and lethal, They are not added up. you perform each of them separately. You strike once doing 2 damage and bypassing armor. Your second swing hits for 3 and its a lethal blow. Its not added up into one hit.
@@TheNinjaLlama_StreamThis explanation does not appear to be correct. Section 10.4 on page 8 of the rules reference says 'When resolving an attack, if the hero resolves multiple abilities on their item cards, they input the hits and modifiers from ALL {my emphasis} of their abilities before selecting the 'Apply' button.' And as stated by the OP the app does not provide for any other method to resolve combat.
I dont understand shadow phase, the guide skips it and you did too. when i played it, its said move1: orc attacks nearby enemy. not that he moves towards him. if he's not in range he then does move2: move towards nearest enemy. the guide however and you say that they move AND attack?
This comment is a few months old. Did you ever get your question answered? In your example, it'd work like this: Move 1: Orc Attacks Nearby Enemy - the orc group moves one space AND attacks an enemy in range (most likely in the same space). If that same orc group moves 1, and no heroes/enemies are in range, you tap "No Target," and the app should direct you to move one more space closer to a hero/enemy and that group's turn/action is over without an attack. You only Move 1 space AND attack if the movement of one brings the orc group within range of its targeted hero/enemy. Does this make sense or help?
The app system is stupid. People should boycott it and here's why. 1: at some point the app will no longer be supported = you own a dead board game 2: it's free now, but if this becomes the new standard then you can bet that they will implement a paid subscription for it, also look forward paying for dlc content through the app to use the physical content that you also just bought. I'm just sad that they ruined a potentially good LOTR game this way.
I dunno, I got Forgotten Waters, and I love it. The addition of voice acting provides a whole new level of immersion to us. Plus, they let you download the app for free from their site for full offline mode. No internet required, and no risk of it going down. Plus if it does, you know some devoted fan will archive it and link it to BGG. As for DLC, I like being able to get instant DLC if I enjoy my gaming experience, and get new scenarios. Dunno how JIME implements the app as I don't have it yet, but FW did it masterfully imo.
This is a bit of an obtuse comment. Games with .apk systems are not 'stupid.' They create a unique way to interact with the game that blends the best of the analog board game experience with helpful digital tools. If anything, this is a smart and efficient way to enjoy a boardgame that might otherwise allows all players to be on the same team. With services like Raspberry, Steam, and cloud storage on general, .apk-driven games will always be around. Look at Mansions of Madness 2E and XCOM. They are going strong in this space. You're entitled to your opinion, but you're really just poisoning the well with a bad, reductive, and short-sighted understanding of the idea of app-driven gaming.
It represents you going to that area. The miniature moving there to a mountain range would be you journeying there much like a a plane icon above a town is not the actual scale of the plane over that town. So two enemies coming up would be two enemies being in that region. Actual camps and battles zoom in for other parts of the game. And have maps for that too which are to scale and not shown here.
