When she was last on Stephen Colbert, she talked about the jazz artists that influenced her vocals and music and said she would love to make a jazz standards album someday. She has covered several jazz classics and has performed with Christian McBride, the Grammy-winning jazz bassist. She performed “Fever” at the Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee Tribute, and McBride backed her on SNL when she performed “What Was I Made For?” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. She also covered Julie London’s “I’m in the Mood for Love” on BBC1. Christian McBride has said she is one of his favorite people to work with and hinted at a collaboration in the future. Ever since I heard her exceptional cover of Michael Jackson’s “Bad”, I started a mental list of songs I’d love to hear her sing.
these stripped back performances she did for this series are so insanely impressive. SO impressive. i’ve watched each one at least 20 times and each time im floored. i really hope you react to her other songs she did for this. wildflower, birds of a feather, and la amore. they’re all fantastic. she is truly a once in a lifetime artist and i’m constantly in awe that i’m alive at the same time as her and finneas.
Also, not sure if you noticed, but the strings section at the end of this song is the bridge on The Greatest. The complete front to back cohesion on this album gives me chills.
Thank you so much for mentioning Joni Mitchell because everytime I hear Billie sing the "dog in a dog pound" part at 6:10, it reminds me of Joni - more so on the recorded version though. You can really hear it there.
@@blybirdsvliegen "California". It's not exact, but the first time I heard "Skinny" it made me think of Joni. I think it's the chorus too. Just a feeling.
Fascinating that you specifically mentioned Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell because they were the ones I grew up with (also Odetta tbh) and now I’m obsessed with Billie. Fits right in there, I do think.
Really looking forward to you reacting to wildflower, it was my favourite performance from this session. In the album it was always at the bottom of my favourites but the wildflower live version is now in the top. And I love skinny. It’s so ridiculously good. I’m glad you appreciated it
This song opens the album and what a journey. Love that you mentioned Joni. Billie's lyric '21 took a lifetime' is so epic and revealing. Did you hear her version of 'Fever' at a Peggy Lee benefit last year with Count Basie Orch. (fan recording) Thank you, love your Billie reactions! please do more off of this amazing album project of theirs.
3:14 I just had to pause to cry, my goodness. I haven't actually heard this song yet (I don't know how), so this is my first reaction as well. Her lyrics here immediately reminded me of a poem I wrote in December 2022 about having lost 100 lbs after leaving my ex-fiance in February of that year. I wrote the poem because all of the compliments of my weight loss just made me feel more hollow inside. It was a hard time for me, and it was ironic that I had also been creatively inspired for the first time in years.
Love your reaction to Billie's live performances. If you can catch the whole show from Amazon Music Song line, you can enjoy the Billie and Finneas commentary between the four songs, and there are full ending credits for all who were involved.
When I was in Orchestra during middle school and high school, a lot of the other chairs around me were other kids that I knew for all four years. I was Second Violin, so practicing at home alone seemed mediocre because I didn't have the high melody or the volume like First Violin or Viola. But... when we were finally on a live stage doing the main performance,.... for me, it wasn't a trance.... it was a Romance. I could feel the harmony I would share at times with First Violin and at other times with Viola.... and then there were the moments in songs where we would all be reaching something together...like reciprocation and completion. One of my best friends was a Celloist too.... so it would be like her and I were sharing secrets across the stage back and forth while playing these pieces together. That moment when it's the actual performance, it just feels so much more intimate than it did during rehearsals. There would be other kids that I didn't get along with in class, but when we would finish a song on stage and I'd look around we all had the same softness in our face and shine in our eyes.
Just carrying on my your Collier take, this year my feed has been full of youngsters expressing themselves. For some mysterious reason, UA-cam suggested I listen to Joni which I too me to Brandi which took me to your reactions to Jacob and now to Billie. What is this beautiful universe trying to tell me?!

Brother! You tipped your hat to Billie. Time to watch BINI now! You're missing out on the Philippines' hottest girl group. I've been here in your channel for a while now, and I can tell that you really love being technical with vocals and what goes in between the entire music. With thay being said, I'd like to suggest the wish bus performance of their song "Huwag Muna Tayong Umuwi". But they have a lot of hit songs recently. And while you're on that, you might as well want to listen to "SINING" at the cozy coves by Dionela ft. Jay-R. Guaranteed goosebumps! Much love! Keeping doing what you're doing, lovin' it since 2021!❤
if you're expecting a jazz vibe song from her, she actually performed L'amour de ma vie, song from her latest album at this same session, up in her channel. Check it out, really hoping to see your reaction.
Sadly there are several artists who are grabbing onto the Billie train. They sound very much like her and the others are creative but still sounding like her
I so appreciate how you get how special this is. Generational artists. Jazz would be perfect for her.
