Soundtrack of my childhood. My dad had many of these and all my mornings started with several of them sitting out there "searching". He adjusted them that way on purpose.
That's the first truck I drove over the road ,,no power steering no air nothing ,from ri to California, and down to Florida,,,those were the days man ,I took a heater out of a Datsun 510 it fit rite in the cubby hole in the dog house and I was the first anywhere to have a bunk heater in a truck
Screaming yammahammer. I pulled a BULL WAGON with a 1966 red 10 speed in the 1970s. It did really well for 318. Keep it tacked out screaming an you can haul it.
The first big truck I drove other than 6 wheel dump trucks on the farm, was 1965 cab over Transtar with a 238, 6-71 with a 10 speed. brings back sweet memories. This crackerbox had twin stack's, it more then likely has a 318, 8V-71. If he would have revved it up more you would be able to tell the difference. It was definitely a Detroit, can't mistake that sound. 🙂
Yes. And I thought Astros were so cool looking as compared to cracker boxes. I thought cracker boxes were butt ugly. However, I must admit, this is the most beautiful cracker box I've ever seen in my life and I would be proud to drive it. 😊
@@rolandsolomon7728 Having driven both, I liked the Astro best. Had a better heater, smoother riding ( had air ride suspension) and a bigger sleeper, much more comfortable. I put card board along the bottom of the windshields to help keep the sun out. It had an 8V92 TTA 430 horsepower with a 9 speed transmission. A strong puller, but horrible fuel mileage. 4.5 MPG at best.
@@bertgrau3934 Well, the Astro that I drove, a 1973 with a naturally aspirated Cummins 903 engine, didn't have a great heater. I didn't have air ride either. However, that Reyco spring suspension still rode nice in comparison to other suspension systems. I also loved and appreciated the tilt steering wheel, since it didn't have power steering and I was a short, skinny fellow. Oh.....wait a minute. I'm still short. 🤣😂
Detroit guys are saying, where's the rev ? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 We had a 5 star General with a 6-71 T on the farm, turned up to 2350, that baby would rev now!!!!! Beautiful rig though, thank you for posting.
John, Thats probably more true than you think. I drove a 64 crackerbox with the inline 6-71 238 horse power, 5 speed over drive, and 2 speed drive axle. That thing some days it was fun some I would cuss at it. I made a few bucks with it though.
Wow that's like the cascadia, prostar and Volvos but from the '60s, i looks cool today cause its a classic now but i bet when those were new thay were ugly trucks like the cascadia prostar and Volvos today are jajaja... Don't worry air-dinamic cascadia prostar and Volvo truck owners one day 40-50 plus years from your (throw away ugly truck) with be as cool as this GMC is, but won't sound like a real truck sounds, it will keep sounding like a space 🌌🚀 mobile jajaja .
@@Notthisguyeither sadly and unfortunately future generations are probably gana think those ugly trucks are cool compared to the ugly Alien 👽 space 🚀 mobiles there coming out with these days tesla nikola and all that electric junk.
Drink lots of coffee, start it up, slam your hand in the door and drive mad. The best way to run those old two strokes
Love the sound of a old oil losing loud no power steering ,dirty Detroit Jimmy. Good old trucking

That's a well trained Detroit, it dragged its diaper along with it out into the driveway. 😊
When it's reving up it's sounds like it is chanting.👍🙏👍🙏🙏🙏
Straight pipes? OY VEY
She's hunting
Imagine crashing into one of these this is old iron
I love the blower surge, sounds like a dragster.
The harder you ran the Detroit the better it ran !!!!!
выглядит современно
Clarkson's large version of the Peel P40
Is it true that the old Detroits were Super Charged as well
My daddy used to drive one with a 4x4 two stick
Doesn't anyone know how to set buffer screw
It's so ugly, it's good looking👍
That is a great looking truck.👍
When was the REV?
Bad ass the year I was born too !
ARGENTINA 🕶️🖐️😁
Very cool
Rev?
When I get the money, I'm gonna collect a few beauties like this. I suppose I'll need a barn or two.
I think the 68 was the last year for the crackerbox, then in 69 the Astro came out, if I remember correctly.
You could get sun burned knees in those old Astroids.

It actually rode pretty good compared to some of the trucks I drove in 50 years of trucking. That's a nice buggy I would love to drive it.
Looks great, sounds fantastic, today's driver would not even know how to open the door to get in let along drive it

SWEET . So much better as hobby trucks. Dem 238's made me suffer
Nice, is it for sale?
No it is not for sale
After judgement day you hear Yamaha raising hell!
Takes me back to my teens when I used to hand out at a trucker friend’s where all he owned were Detroit’s
My dad had three of these back in the day. All 238s.
What a truck love the engine sounds!
What a beautiful old truck, and that sound !!
Love that sound 😀✌️
