A regular medieval woman was mostly struggling to not starve or die in child birth, so I doubt they had much time to think about sexism 24/7 like a lot of western people do today :')
Well no... There was sexism struggles back then, the thing is though that women were taught that this was the normal (which it was) so they didn't even think about any alternative like independence because there was no surviving on your own back then, you needed a man since society treated men as the providers. It was just a different time back then with different values. Modern day values wouldnt really work in that time period though since as you said, people were struggling with harsher things then like just basic survival.
"A regular medieval woman was mostly struggling to not starve" Where do you get this idea? That's absolute nonsense. Outside of famines, regular people weren't starving at all. The population of Europe tripled during the High Middle Ages, exactly because there was enough food available for everyone. If you're referring to the fact that people had to work every day to feed themselves, well, that's just... life.
Oh yes, the classic. Witcher 3 did something you wouldn’t see today and that’s portray a male abuser in domestic violence in a way that isn’t completely evil. You see how he’s a pretty alright guy from flashbacks with Ciri despite having been told that he is an abuser by some npcs already. You then later learn his backstory and from his perspective, you get to see how the abuse started. The game treated him like an actual human being, and it feels like with the Witcher 4, we’re not gonna reach that same level of depth and introspection that we would from 3. It’d be much more black and white than its predecessor.
And Bloody baron questline was written by a woman, which is probably a shock to the "modern audience". I guess you really get quality if you hire actual professionals and not based on ideology.

Now that I think about it, Ciri being an Empress while dealing with other countries while also fighting supernatural threats with her powers sounds like a far more interesting concept for a video game than her just being a Witcher.
What struggle Ciri has? -She is local -Comes from Royal Family -Is educated in books -She has seen struggles of farmers and understands them -Has combat expertise as well as magical powers -Likely won't get into relationship that leads to her giving birth to a child (considering modern audience wish) -Has powerful adopt parents as well as biological father (really doubtful he is going to let his daughter be in danger if he learns that she is alive and where she is) -Witcher by trade, she kills monsters that plaque people and as she isn't (or shouldn't really be) a Witcher herself, people have more positive view on her -Wasn't sent as one of 100 children to do first Trial where most children died Not even considering all what i listed above, she is far better than many men of that time. Well look at that! After everyone said that people were over-reacting to some of the red flags in the trailer we get an outright CONFIRMATION from the source XD Yeah, it was pretty evident from what they were showing that there's a direction shift from what we were all expecting with this sequel and a lot of unnecessary shoehorning of ideas that had no reason to be there. I would also like to point out just how powerful and influential women have been in this franchise, to the point that it was a major discovery in the second game that the Lodge of Sorceresses were making an underhanded power move to seize political authority throughout the regions by supplanting themselves as key advisors. The fey were following a queen who could turn into a dragon in that same game too, an entire faction you could join up with after the opening chapter of the game. Then, of course, we have Ciri herself. A time-traveling girl with overpowered magic due to her unique bloodline who, while not being able to use Witcher potions or incantations, was more than capable and not in need of rescuing.
Witcher 2 and 3 already did that. Nobody has confidence it will be done well and appropriately anymore. Hell, one of their complains about the sexualisation is because sorceresses can alter their appearance, so they make themselves super hot. Which is what every woman would do.

Are they going to remove the fact that no girl can become a witcher then? Talk about taking a dump on the lore. I don't have the time and respect for games that don't have time and respect for the source material.
Yup. They will be ignoring the lore about all that. The worst part is not only can women not become Witchers but neither can grown adults which Ciri is so they're taking a T-rex sized dump on us.
If you actually would know the source material you would know that Vesemir told that there is no female witcher from wolf school because none of girls could survive that, so they eventually stop trying, he couldn't spoke about another schools, because that was their secrets. Also its very hard to call Ciri a human at all and i bet nobody tried trial of grasses on the source containing hen ichaer.
Witcher games have always been more about role-playing than lore accurate. The best ending of witcher 3 was considered to be witcher ciri ending followed by empress ciri ending which was considered bitter sweet ending by the fanbase. I loved the series because it lets us choose the type of witcher we want to be. What worries me is whether the studio still has enough balls left to give us the same freedom today
@Sajgoniarz Witcher potions are literal poison to Ciri. She wouldn't even be able to complete it. Also the devs confirmed it was the trial of grasses she supposedly completed. Despite there being noone who remembers the rites.

Honestly I wouldn't mind if Ciri was the protagonist but she didn't need to be a Witcher at all she could just be her usual ridiculous over powered elder elf self. And then dev missing the mark completely on what the focus should be. At this point, Blood of the Dawnwalker is what I'm more excited for. Rebel Wolves is a studio made up of the creators of witcher 3. So if anything is going to be a real sequel, its this and not whatever CDPR is claiming to be now
My, Ciri is Daenerys Targaryen theory: Geralt once told Ciri (in the books) that although no woman had *yet* survived the trial of grasses, it’s *not* impossible…and as a result Ciri decides to undergo the trial of grasses-specifically to nerf her blood/powers/fertility to *nullify* the prophecy- with more *certainty* than any spell (there are some things spells just *can’t* do- like remove Geralt’s marks in Heart of Stone…or *undo* his Witcher mutations for that matter), concerning her offspring either being the world’s savior or destroyer. However, not only does it *not* work, but her *fertility* remains intact: rendering Ciri the first *ElderWitcher* = a Witcher who is able to pass on Witcher mutations. Thus, by the end of her trilogy she will birth the first fertile mutant children, bringing Witchers *back* to the world (like how Daenerys brought dragons *back* to the world) *without* the trials *or* child surprises. Ciri will be crowned *Mother of Mutants*
Everyone struggled in a Medieval world. Even Kings got beheaded or killed in combat after, like, 10 years. Shit was hard. That's why a lot of it is also called the Dark Ages.
No you dont understand. All up until ~1960 all men were Rich Successful Barons or Princes whose only struggle was choosing between numerous fun goal to focus on while all women were cattle slaves working to achieve those goals for their masters.
Yeah people like to romanticize the middle ages but damn it was tough back then. Everything was a struggle and a lot of people died young. Sometimes you wouldn't even live to 12 or so because of disease. It's honestly remarkable that as many people survived up until that point

And yes, I know it was possibly the decidion of higher-ups who wanted to push it out faster... But now they come up with THIS sh!t? Nah, man. I'm out. Not supporting BS like that
As the old saying goes, "empires rise and empires fall." CDPR and other studios that share this way of thinking, their empires will collapse under the weight of their own arrogance.
The world of the Witcher literally has a habit of sorceresses acting as advisors for kings. Touissant literally has a female ruler. I feel like between all that and the world being overrun with deadly monsters, there are more important things people care about than making life difficult for one of the last active witchers who happens to be a woman.
My problem with this is not that she looks older. My problem is that Ciri is now a Witcher, who has the modifications and is using sign magic. Ok, if you know Witcher lore, you would know that, one: Women can not be Witchers, they would die from the conversion process (and 80% of boys who go though it also die). Two: Ciri has abilities due to her powerful bloodline that makes her one of the strongest magical characters in the Witcher franchise. Why would she need/want to be a Witcher... Being a Witcher would be a major step down in power for her.

What struggle Ciri has?
-She is local
-Comes from Royal Family
-Is educated in books
-She has seen struggles of farmers and understands them
-Has combat expertise as well as magical powers
-Likely won't get into relationship that leads to her giving birth to a child (considering modern audience wish)
-Has powerful adopt parents as well as biological father (really doubtful he is going to let his daughter be in danger if he learns that she is alive and where she is)
-Witcher by trade, she kills monsters that plaque people and as she isn't (or shouldn't really be) a Witcher herself, people have more positive view on her
-Wasn't sent as one of 100 children to do first Trial where most children died

It’s an excellent way of telling the fanbase to save their money and skip the purchase 👍
I probably never was going to buy it anyway, but it's good to have confirmation
Man, I just want to slay stuff with my 3 swords, play gwent and drink with my buddies. Is that so hard xD
you're implying that you can not do that in the new game lol. and don't withcers have 2 swrods in the game? and from what i have seen, witchers in the books only have 1 sword.
From my understanding, CDPR went through some sort of a restructuration and a lot of the new heads are... cultists of the "message", let's say.
Rockstar as well, don't be too hyped for GTA 6.
Anyone watch Claymore it had a good plot for a female Witcher story just saying. What if they used her to make a army of overpowered Witchers and she had to stop them from easy story even a baby could think of.
ciri" i have two swords...one for monsters ....and one for .....men"
Ciri: "I can't hurt monsters because I'm a woman? This is bullshit!"
In another interview they said that she’s going to get a nerf to her op powers, which probably has something to do with why she’s a Witcher now
I think it makes sense for a game with a female MC in a medieval setting to go into how that character would be treated. I just hope that isn't the only thing the game is about
At this point, Blood of the Dawnwalker is what I'm more excited for. Rebel Wolves is a studio made up of the creators of witcher 3. So if anything is going to be a real sequel, its this and not whatever CDPR is claiming to be now
Alright, time to burn it down and join the head devs that left the studio
Truly a women struggle, having super powers.....dafuq do they mean!
My, Ciri is Daenerys Targaryen theory:
Geralt once told Ciri (in the books) that although no woman had *yet* survived the trial of grasses, it’s *not* impossible…and as a result Ciri decides to undergo the trial of grasses-specifically to nerf her blood/powers/fertility to *nullify* the prophecy- with more *certainty* than any spell (there are some things spells just *can’t* do- like remove Geralt’s marks in Heart of Stone…or *undo* his Witcher mutations for that matter), concerning her offspring either being the world’s savior or destroyer.
That topic was already tackled in the Witcher 3, several times, through several different characters INCLUDING YENNEFER AND SIDE CHICK.
how to kill a franchise in one easy step.
"killing monsters" trailer showed more women's struggles in medieval times than they ever will now 😂
Woke Culture reaching cringe levels, that should be forbidden.
This game will be much harder because you'll only get 77% of the loot you'd have gotten if you were playing as Geralt
People in medieval times were too worried about not starving to death or being killed/graped by an invading army
Bruh, somebody put these people in the Industry for therapy. How many times we need to tell that the customers are NOT their Doctors.
The series ends at 3 where she had the potential TO DIE.
One of the endings, she does not exist in.
It’s literally a medieval Polish fantasy setting of course women are going to face sexism
Watch them kill Geralt like they killed Joel in TLOU2
This is so stupid it’s a *FANTASY* WORLD! And are they gonna make sexy characters dress properly and talk about how they’re objectified? It’s a fantasy game with men as its main audience. Even most women playing the game would not care. I don’t play the games so I’m not sure how woman are treated by I have a small guess, but it’s still stupid.
Now that I think about it since she has become a real witcher, does it mean her bloodline ends with her?
As a Polish person, I remember when previous games came out. I remember how PROUD I was to be from Poland. "See? We can make good games too" (well, ok, mostly Witcher 3). Then they blew it all up with the release of Cyberpunk. Yes, game is better NOW, but at the release it was a sh!tshow. And yes, I know it was possibly the decidion of higher-ups who wanted to push it out faster... But now they come up with THIS sh!t? Nah, man. I'm out. Not supporting BS like that
Interesting how modern medias constantly have to show struggles of females in all kinds of places, but never males.
Oh, they mean that she will be burnt within 30 mins of gameplay, as it is a medieval world.
Reminder than alot of CDPR Devs have left and even formed their own new studio. They're just catering to a "modern audience" now.
As the old saying goes, "empires rise and empires fall." CDPR and other studios that share this way of thinking, their empires will collapse under the weight of their own arrogance.
I predicted this based on the trailer alone.
RIP The Witcher, it was a good run.
Being a Witcher would be a major step down in power for her.
the OG crews who worked on 1,2 and 3 are NOT at the company anymore, remember that going forward with CDPR. they somehow got hit with the dei mind virus
I thought the Witcher took place in a fictional setting
Ah yes. Not only do we need to hear about the struggle of women against the patriarchy in movies, news, tv shows, talk shows, and from women in person, but we also need to hear it in games too. I’m so glad they’re doing this so that the unga bunga man brain can have ample opportunity to understand. We should mark every male that hasn’t explicitly pledged their life to improving the female experience. Maybe with a star on their chest or something.
