- So my friend Natalie just brought a bunch of random Vietnamese candy(Duty Free, random stuff etc). Not sure if they're famous or anything, but we tried 'em for fun, since she just gave them to me as a present :D The FREEZE DRIED DURIAN IS INCREDIBLE. Enjoy :)

Why are Dave's friends always so attractive
For me Jaeyong = dean + benji from B.I.G
Because Dave is a beautiful person as well.
birds of a feather lol
Man, Natalie's soooo pretty. I'm gonna have a crush on her even though I'm a straight girl xDD
Erina, Vai, Jaein hahahah
The wrapping on the taro candy is rice paper haha Japanese rice candy has this as well.
Yeah the Chinese White Rabbit candy also has it.
So glad you guys liked Durian! ^^ thanks for having me Dave!
ItsNatTran Hahaha I was so confused because Natalie Tran of community channel is also Vietnamese Australian. What are the odds?
you are so beautiful, i love this video ^^
U so beautifulllll👍🏻
YOUR ACCENT IS GLORIOUS, BECOME FRIENDS WITH BLACKPINK ROSE :D
ItsNatTran 4:16 are prounancing it in southern accent? I'm currently learning vietnamese (it's really hard though on your own) and the diffrence between northern and southern accent intrigued me

i like her voice
Her Aussie accent tho it reminds me of rosè from bp
Asian-Australian accents tend to sound very similar. 😅
Aishah Nordvall she look Average Southern Vietnamese to me
Daveeeee i'm also Vietnamese living in Korea right now! If you need more interesting Vietnamese snacks, i can give you some.
Btw those snacks mostly come from the Southern region of Vietnam (Natalie also has Southern Vietnamese accent). I have snacks from other regions of the country :)
Lana Nguyễn (민영은) She has more of a việt kiều accent
Lana Nguyễn (민영은) She has more of a việt kiều accent
And most VK are from Southern Vietnam.
Wow listening to an 8-bit version of Bohemian Rapsody in the background XD

Woahhh, the Jeju guy is coming back 😍
When you’re Vietnamese but never had these candies 😂
I think most of them were like duty free stuff haha. But the Durian one was awesome
i feel you hahaha
Why do I feel like the odd one out for having tasted almost all of 'em 😂😂
The brand is unheard of, though
P/s: I love dried durian toooooooooo
these are generic brands, while most Vietnamese street candy are just put in to clear bags :)
ㅇㅈ ㅋㅋㅋ never saw these candies before
The Vietnamese letters were made by the French so they take French pronunciations sometimes. The d sound has two pronunciations, the north make it a 'z' sound and in the south it becomes a 'y' sound. There's actually a d with a strike through it which is a d sound for us English speakers. I might be wrong about this so a Vietnamese person might need to correct me
James Heng Yeh that's right, but technically it wasn't made by the French but rather brought to Vietnam by French ppl
Sophie Lefebvre i should be more specific, it was made by a French priest to remove the Chinese characters that were in use at the time by the Vietnamese. He would've relied upon the French alphabet with some exceptions obviously due to the sound differences. I know vietnam afterwards made some corrections following the change.
James Heng idk abt the French part but the d with the stroke is meant to sound as a d. Wasn't made for English speakers (lol) but is pronounced like the English d.
Funny how Vietnam and France had a war and I'm Vietnamese French so I know the history of both sides lol
Leannee any english speaker not familiar with Vietnamese would read it in the English way like Dave did. Time for Dave to try pho!
Natalie is so pretty! And her hair looks so nice 😊
Yayy😂😂Vietnamese on your channel finally😍😍Been waiting so long
Hi Dave, I love the diversity of people you are bring on the show. I do have a friend who is Hmong, a pretty uncommon Asian, who just moved there not long ago. She doesn't know much people in Korea but she's teaching English in Seoul. It'd awesome if you could get her on your show and she can teach or talk about hmong language. She's extremely nice and pretty and I think would fit perfectly on your show. Thanks for reading if you do. God bless
Next, you should put up "Trying Real Durian" video. lol
as someone who really likes the real durian, I never really like its flavour processed food. But maybe because I dont like other fruit flavour foods as well. Real thing is da best. You should try it. Beware of the texture and it looks. Sometimes it looks and feels like baby poo. but it's really amazing. king of fruit indeed.
Wow, there's a lot of Vietnamese watching your channel. I'm Vietnamese too, love your video so much!!!!! Natalie is so pretty!!! But I haven't tried these yet.
She pronounced the “d” like “y” because she’s from the south of vietnam, and ppl from north pronounce like “z”
Hoang Anna Yeh but her accent is a bit foreign, you know what I mean?? It's not like a native speaker
Sophie Lefebvre việt kiều accent
Is it the accent or is her Vietnamese just off?
Her accent just sounds generally odd to be honest. Even myself as someone of Viet descent who grew up in Canada and is not 100% fluent I find that some of her some of her inflections sound strange. Then again it's hard to judge on just a few words.
I didn't understand her sometimes 😂 she was saying coconut and I didn't even realise (I have a very southern accent)
Haha "can't judge by smell". Gonna bring some famous, Swedish Surströmming to you and see if you'll be able to say that once you smell it!
Love you videos btw! Keep up the good work
Anjokkie - Omg yess surströmming I can't eat it at all (i'm swedish)
Chenle's dolphin laugh haha I looooove surströmming
OH JA, SKULLE DÖ OM DE PROVADE😂😂
After watching pewdiepie (him the gamer) tried it, i am REALLLYYYYY looking forward to this surstromming episode ( ̄ω ̄)
Haha count on me! Going to Seoul in a few months, as long as they don't stop the damn surströmming in customs (which they might, if you know what I mean) I'm so gonna bring it to Dave
여자분 너무 밝으셔서
보고있으면 저도 기분 덩달아 좋아져여ㅋㅋㅋ
her laugh is so cute!!!!
흐어엉 너무 먹고싶네욧!! 오늘도 즐감입니다 새벽 업로드💕
나탈리 진짜 매력적이네
Finally appeared some Vietnamese things in this channel. Thank you Dave.
Gotta love her Australian accent.
Great video! At the end I got distracted by the arcade style Bohemian Rhapsody.
I have tried most of these candies, most of which are from southern Vietnam, specifically Mekong Delta. No wonder Vietnamese descents at comment section haven't tried it
너무 예쁘시다 사랑스러워 lovely❤️
저의 엄마 베트남 사람...ㅋㅋㅋ 바로 와서 봄...ㅋㅋㅋ 첫 번째 먹었는데...꿀맛!!! 하트주세영~♥ 전 갈게여 빠이루~★
늦은 시간에 영상올리시느라 고생많이하셨어요!! 푹쉬세요! 재밌게 볼게요ㅎㅅㅎ
나탈리 와- 후와 하는 리액션 되게 매력있다
Aww am loving natalie's accent 😍
동남아 음식이나 과자들 너무 좋아요 ㅋㅋㅋ 달고 고소하고 적당한 단맛에 과일향 너무 좋아요
vietnamese candy is good :) the water soluable coating is kinda weird but it's super cool ! that coconut one, you're supposed to let it sit in your mouth so it can warm it up and it'll become softer! LOL i'm glad you tried viet treats though! thank u for ur hard work! AND REST UP SOON!!
The way the Dave goes “mmmMMMmmm” like 20 times at the end got me 😂😂😂 so cute!
Vai's dying face after smelling Durian at the end lol. so excited for the next upload.
When Dave like something to eat goes MMMM.. Its too cute to handle
The Korean guy with you seems really nice!! Please have him appear more often in ur vids! ❤️❤️❤️
데이부님항상너무응원합니다!!!
The way Natalie pronounces Vietnamese words is so cute!! As for the "d" it can be pronounced 2 ways depending on the letter and the accent. "d" is pronounced as "y"/"zh" or "ll" in Spanish, (which can be pronounced in many ways too hm) and "đ" is pronounced as your regular d sound!
Who knows, maybe someone will be kind enough to send a package of fresh durian to Dave ;D
Why Vietnamese is difficult:
Al though the grammar is very easy, but the Vietnamese pronunciation is very very complicate. Our phonemes is 75-88 depending on the dialect.
The Vietnamese consonants:
- B
- C/K
- D (pronounced like the Z in the North and the Y in the South)
- Đ (pronounced like the English V)
- V (pronounced like the V in the North but like Y in the South)
- N
- M
- H
- G
- L
- S (pronounced like the English S but stronger)
- X (pronounced like the weaker S which is nothing like English)
- P
- R (pronounced like the Z in the North and R in the South)
- T (pronounced like the sTop, sTar, sTart... T not the Take, Tight, To, Too... T)
- Th (pronounced like the English T)
- Ph ( pronounced like the English F and Ph)
- Gi (pronounced like the Z in the North but like the J in the South and Central Vietnam)
- Qu (pronounced like the KW in the North but like the W in the South)
- Ch (pronounced like the English Ch)
- Tr (pronounced like Ch or the strong Ch in the North but like the in the South it like the strong Ch which is not like English Tr or anything in English)
- Tru+/Tro+ (this one actually pronounced like the English Tr)
- Kh (pronounced like the Kh in Khan)
- Ng (pronounced like the English Ng sound at the end but the front pronunciation is not exist in English, so you need to hear a Vietnamese speak to know the exact pronunciation)
- Nh (pronounced like the Japanese Ny)
=> This made Vietnamese have 26 consonants
Vietnamese vowels:
- A (pronounce like Ah, fAct, hAt, cAt, bAd, sAd, fAn)
- Ă (pronounce like fUn, sUch, sOme, hUnt)
- Â (pronounce like dAy, fAce, hAte, sAy)
- E (pronounce like pEt, sEt, sEnce)
- Ê (pronounce like sEx, tEch, tAke, fAte, mAke) (this not common in English)
- I/Y (pronounce like EE, rEAd, +lY)
- O (pronounce like All, bAll, sAw, dOctor, sOng, cOp)
- Ô (pronounce like cOrpse, shOrt, cOrn, phOne, phOtO) (Central Vietnamese pronounced it like U "OO")
- Ơ (pronounce like +Er, +Ur, doctOr)
- U (pronounce like OO,)
- Ư (pronounce like commEnt, maidEnt, +tIOn)
- AI (pronounce like I)
- AO (pronounce like pOWer)
- AU (pronounce like OW) (AO and Au are two difference vowels but English spelling don't sense)
- ÂU (pronounce like lOW, shOW, nO, gO)
- AY (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- ÂY (pronounce like dAY, sAY)
- EO (pronounce like L, EL, ELf, sELL)
- ÊU (the pronunciation not exist in English) (Central Vietnamese pronounced it like the ƠƯ )
- IA/IÊ/YÊ (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- IU (pronounce like EWW)
- OA (pronounce like wOW)
- OĂ (pronounce like One, wOn)
- OE (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- OI (pronounce like R, stARt, stAR)
- ÔI (pronounce like Old+E)
- ƠI (pronounce like ER+E)
- ƠU (the pronunciation not exist in English) (only exist in Central Vietnamese)
- OO (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- ÔÔ (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- UA/UÔ (pronounce like sURE)
- UĂ (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- UÂ (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- ƯA (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- UÊ (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- UI (pronounce like OO+E)
- ƯI (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- UO (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- UÔ/UA (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- UƠ (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- ƯƠ (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- ƯU (pronounce like cUU in Japanese)
- UY (pronounce like wE)
- IÊU/YÊU (pronounce like whEEL) (pronounecd like IU "EW" in Central and South Vietnamese)
- OAI (pronounce like ALL+whY without the W)
- OAO (pronounce like ALL+wOW without the W)
- OAY (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- OEO (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- UAO (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- UÂY (pronounce like OO+wAVE without )
- UÔI (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- ƯƠI (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- ƯƠU (the pronunciation not exist in English) (Northern Vietnamese pronounced it like IÊU/YÊU)
- UYA (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- UYÊ (the pronunciation not exist in English)
- UYU. (pronunciation like OO+WEW with)
Vietnamese have 56 vowels many of them do exist in English, but in Vietnamese it will go with more consonants than English, It will be hard to explain the pronunciation of those vowels.
Vietnamese have 6 tones in the North, 5 in the South and Central Vietnam. Vietnamese tones:
- / Sắc: rising tone
- \ Huyền: falling tone
- . Nặng: down tone or heavy tone
- ? Hỏi: half circle rising tone
- ~ Ngã: waving tone (the South pronounced this tone like the ? Hỏi tone)
Thank you for letting me, A SOUTHERN VIETNAMESE, know the Vietnamese Alphabet. I would also like to add that Đ in southern Vietnam IS pronounced as the English D which can also sound like a soft D. Natalie's accent seems to be originated from the southern part of Vietnam, which I hope was clarified before.
I thank you for taking your time explaining me the things I learned when I was 4 years old. If you remove the "i" from Tiran you'll get my last name, which is one of the most common surnames in where? Correct, Vietnam.
Ill regards,
A southern Vietnamese
Actually a d with a bar (đ) is not a regular English d, it's implosive much like the Vietnamese b. In other words, you draw in air rather than releasing it. The International Phonetic Alphabet symbols for the Vietnamese b and đ are, respectively, [ɓ] and [ɗ]; notice the little hook at the top.
As a viet person, I loved the video but was kinda sad about the lack of Vietnamese culture :/ but I hope to see more Vietnamese culture comparisons in future videos! :))
Don't feel bad. I'm waiting for him to do Jamaican comparisons although he doesn't seem to have any black friends.
자려고 하면 항상데이브영상올라와 ㅠㅠ 잠을못자요....
그럼 그냥 보고 자면 됩니다
johnson bob 오~~좋은방법ㅋ
Now I have Bohemian Rhapsody in my head. I can't get it out😅
Yeah! A new video! I love all of your videos, Dave! Greetings from Austria :)
I really like Jaeyong in this video! You should have him on more often.
These two are really cool, and all that english slang you were throwing around was funny af lmao. Thanks for the great vid!!
Dave u and your crew are the best man... i really love you guys! Hope you live a great life. Salutes from 🇲🇽Mexico
The first candy with the clear wrapper is like the Botan Rice Candy!
When Dave used ratchet and bougie lolol such American slang xD Actually, maybe other countries use it too??
Yayyy! I was so happy to see this video. Love from a Vietnamese in Australia ❤️ always enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!
You should try some more Vietnamese snacks or instant noodles. They're really good . btw thank you for your compliment for Vietnamese people. And Nat is so cute 😍
말린 두리안 아그작 아그작 너무 맛있게 드시네요~ㅋㅋㅋㅋ두리안 먹고싶네요~ 생과일로 두리안 먹으면 냄새가 머리로 쏴~~올라오긴해도 너무 맛있었어용~ㅎ열대과일은 다 맛있는듯ㅎㅎ
Natalie is soooooo pretty and sooooo cute i luv her 💖💖
I have been waiting for Vietnamese people/things to appear here like forever!!! I watched it right away when I saw the title.
Jaeyong=a whole cutie
Why am I so obsessed with your videos?❤ Now I want Durian you made it sound good.
한국에서 공부하고 있는 사람인데 오빠 영상을 볼 때 고향을 많이 그리워요😢. 그 코코넛 캔디를 먹기 정말 힘들죠? 초등학교때 엄청 많이 먹었는데요😂
잘 봤어요. 감사합니다
Nat 씨가 베트남 사투리 해서 팔음이 귀여워요
I'm pretty sure the coconut candy was hard to eat because of the weather, the colder it is the tougher those chewy candies get. The edible wrapping is actually coconut paper, so it adds the coconut flavor to the candies!
베트남 혼혈이여서 왠지 기부니가 좋타...❤
나탈리? 라는 분 목소리 왜케 좋죠ㅠㅠㅠㅠ 목소리 좋고 굉장히 이쁘세요😃😃😃
I was totally singing to bohemian rhapsody when it started to play!!
두리안 제대로된거 먹으면 손이 안갈수가 없음 세상에서 가장 포근한 맛임. 한국에서는 안먹어봤는데 냄새가 맛보는순간 달콤한 향으로 역전될만큼 맛남
다음편 브아이 얼른 보고싶다 ㅋㅋ 귀요미
Awwwh I'm so happy to see Jaeyong in a video again~
두리안ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 진짜 냄새 심하죠....그래도 맛있음..... 아 갑자기 과일먹고싶어졌어....아....ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 저는 타로는 별로안좋아하는데 저 바나나캔디 되게 궁금하네요ㅎㅎㅎ
Thank you so much for trying ❤️ I hope to see more videos about Vietnam ❤️
I think the wrapping of the taro candy is milk. I saw a video about a tea packaging and they use milk and did something to it to make it a solid.
Dave오빠 말레이시아 오면 두리안 먹을수있어요 ~진짜 맛있어요 ~
Somehow seeing Dave eat makes me hungry.
첫번째꺼랑 두번째꺼 완젼 존맛♡
finally a video about my country, hope to see more video about Vietnam =))))))) there re a lot of interesting stuffs
There is a version of the coconut candy that you can purchase, where they make it in front of you. It is in more the tourist islands in Vietnam!
Awe I love her voice and laugh, she's so cute
Dave, you seem to have a very open palate. i noticed you like so many things you tasted. Thanks for being open!
몇일전에베트남으로여행갔다왔는데...ㅎ
이거슨!운명🌟
I want to try the Dried Durian. I love durian and it looks so GOOD
I see the Jeju guy, I click.
I always enjoy watching your 'Trying food' and pronounciation videos!
Really looking forward to the next vid with Vai trying these candies ;D
do you like queen?XD because I think you played in the background bohemian rapsody
Time for Dave to eat some popular Vietnamese dishes
At the end I was freaking out for Bohemian Rhapsody in that 8-bit way
if you have the chance pls come to Vietnam to enjoy the abundance of food here LOL each city and province has their own specialties and you cant find these elsewhere ;) I highly recommend kẹo lạc (kinda like peanut candy) and kẹo mè xửng (candy made with malt and peanut oil, coated with sesame seeds) (bcuz I like peanuts so dont blame me for suggesting two types that made with peanuts :p). I dont know much abt the types of candy that orginally Vietnam (even tho I'm pure Vietnamese, pls spare me), but I would also suggest that you guys try the countless types of "cakes" (as we may translate "bánh" into English). some may see them as dessert, yet bcuz they are made from rice/rice powder/glutinous rice (many of them) and other ingredients such as meat or vegetables, they contain a lot of nutrients, and you can eat them as a meal (like for breakfast or lunch, and sometimes dinner). am I saying too much???? anw I really enjoy your videos and I hope to see more of your experiencing Vietnamese stuffs ;) thank you for your time!!!!!!
There are so many coconut candies lol 🤣🤣🤣 the coconut ones are for chewing . However, coconut candies are usually hand-made in Vietnam so the longer they are done (put out in the air) , the harder it gets while the softer ones mean that it's made more recently lol. Hope this makes sense
Adorei título em português. ótimo vídeo.
Thanks Dave for putting Queen in your videos. 😊
나탈리님 너무 예뻐요!
그 타로 그거 저도 첨에 껍질인줄 알고 ㅋㅋㅋ
그냥 먹어도 입안에서 녹아요~~
오! 이거 먹어봤는데..
I really love how is bohemian rhapsody playing in the background... LOVED IT!💚💓
게스트 두 분 다 넘나 매력적!!😍
Aww Vai.
