Love it. Reminds me of 1960s era art.
This summer at an Urban Sketchers Houston event, someone used a similar style. In advance, she'd painted blocks of intense color like magenta or cyan (I think she used Dr Ph Martin inks) in a standard white sketchbook. Then on site she did her drawing in white and black ink. Her pieces were incredible! I love toned paper, but the really intense color of these pieces is so dramatic and striking! My go to paper generally for this kind of thing is Canson Mi-tientes. I buy large sheets of bright and bold colors, then cut them down. I then draw on the smoother side. But wow, I would love to have a sketchbook with colored paper! Maybe I should try my hand at binding the mi-tientes into a sketchbook. Or try that other sketcher's tip of priming the page with colored ink.

Legion water color paper offers colored watercolor paper. I know there is black available. There might be other colors available.

what are children gouache sticks ? is the colored paper like cartridge paper but colored or something else?
Great video-does Veronica Lawler (great reportage artist) ever use colored paper? I’ll have to see if I can find out!
I haven't seen her use colour paper but I would also be interested to know, Im a big fan of her style aswell :)
Loved this video! Where can one find colored paper like this? I looked and could only find grey, tan, and black. I found card stock and copy paper but the gsm for the copy paper was 89. I did find Canson Mi-Teintes Drawing Papers. 98 lb 160 gsm. Amazon and Cheap Joes has it.
To be honest, I am just using card stock - somewhere around 150gsm and it was in my local stationary store here in South Africa.... I haven't tried the Mi-Tientes paper but I think Pat Southern Pearce has/does use that paper (but I am open for correction on that)
You can buy Mi-Teintes in large sheets in a wide range of bold, intense colors. That's what I use. I cut it down into smaller sizes. I prefer to draw on the smoother side, but I sometimes forget and use the more textured side.

@@tarias_sketchy_adventures this is good to know. So the works look awesome but the paper color isn’t lightfast. So the works are mostly preserved by immediately scanning them. :)
