Although, sometimes I wonder if Japanese audiences and fans are simply less critical than we are here in the west. As in, for example. They see DragonBall and accept it as it is. Even if it isn't to their own standards in story telling, action, comedy etc etc. Is it simply less common over there to not drop a show even though an individual isn't liking the direction?

I’m gonna Make a wild guess and say the reason we haven’t gotten an announcement for a movie or a new anime is because they are waiting for diama to end so they don’t take the hype away from diama
Toei never says where the money is exactly coming from, Tv rights? movie rights? movie sales? bluray sales? streaming sales?... I suspect most of these profits are coming from the movie sales, without the movies, Dragonball is losing money
I'm concerned that Toei and Shueisha won't try or take any chances with dragon ball given how successful it's been. Like "oh shit we made all This and barely did anything?? Why stop now?"
The fact that DB did millions despite not having anything before daima and occasional movies is insane, like for real imagine making money by just existing
Im not happy, but it works out that Toryama passed because it would have hurt his old heart to hear how it was criticized so much. I take it as it is, he was older and wanted some of his last work to reflect his origins heart for manga. The silliness and lighthearted things like Dr slump and Arale. That being said, I stopped after episode 5 and want to binge watch it and accept and appreciate what he gave us
Diama connects more with younger audiences than older viewers, which is why its successful since the show (Diama) is targeted to children. This explains why the show is less violent and more light hearted than previous dragon ball stories. Fans that dislike Diama are mostly older audiences, which the show is not directly targeted towards. As long as money talks, there are no issues.

I don't know how to feel about the state of Dragonball. It's my favorite anime series of all time but further development of it is just not the same. What mad Dragonball great was the artistic ability and vision of the creator. Anything produced now is just Dragonball stories written by bad writers and artists who can only copy what is already there and not create to the levels of the original material. What makes manga and the anime that follows great is the talent of the prodigies that produce them. Once they stop developing the stories they start to feel more marvel comics with different writers and story directions and the quality plummets as a result. We are never going to get great Dragonball again unless another prodigal writer comes along and decides to do Dragonball. And obviously that type of talent will be doing their on stuff and not taking up someone else work
I still think the creators of dragon ball kakumei should take over the official manga. They can draw the best I ever seen, amazing storytelling with kakumei, and actually dive into ideas like the destroyed universes and much more. It's just so much better in my opinion
@SpeedPunch Toyotaro just isn't a good storyteller. He leaves so many holes and contradictions in the manga. I think it's hurting the story of dragon ball. I think it needs a new team from top to bottom who grew up with dragon ball and deeply care about. I also think Toei themselves is hurting a ton of top animes because they put in so few money on them because they know they will always still sell and make ton of profit. They are doing that the most to Dragon Ball and it sucks.
Agree with this as well. They got me back into DB. Moro was decent could've been better and Granolah just.. sigh. If Toei had real passion and put out good stories I would care but otherwise I read other manga and it's way better. Need Kakumei to come back.
