  • In this video I show you how to do the tandem axis configuration with LinuxCNC and the Mesa 7i96s control. We will walk through the process together step by step to ensure that your CNC machine works smoothly and precisely. The tandem axis configuration enables synchronized movement of two axes, which can be particularly crucial in complex CNC applications. Let's explore this important setting together and take your CNC precision to the next level.

This took me a long time to figure out on my router. I believe everything covered here is in the manual, but it's difficult for the beginner. Essentially, there are 2 levels of abstraction: joints, and axes. A joint is driven by some actuator, and axes are made from one or more joints. When first starting linuxcnc, none of the positions are known, so we have to go through a homing cycle. Each joint is referenced to some home location, and then linuxcnc can switch out of 'joint mode' and move axes instead of individual joints. All this depends on the kinematic model of your machine. Here 'trivkins' (trivial kinematics) is used because moving one axis doesn't affect any other.
All that to say the manual is actually really good. You will learn a lot by reading it, especially the "HAL Tutorial" section which made me realize that almost anything imaginable is possible with this system. It's really a shame that more people aren't making videos like yours.

Thanks. I tried this with LinuxCNC 2.9.0; the correct HOME_SEQUENCE values seem to be placed into the .ini file now.

    Hi!
    How to configure:
    Mesa 7i96 + spindle (servo 1kW, step/dir) + M19 + ramp start/stop. (for mini-lathe from china). Reduce motor:spindle - 2:1. Use only encoder output from driver

The automated translation and the AI generated voiceover makes this kind of hard to understand and really annoying to listen to. I was looking forward to the content of this channel because I have watched some of the videos in German trying to understand all the details. This is a little bit better than listening to the original and guessing what it means but not by much.

I can understand that. I'm currently testing different service providers. Basically the translation works. But the results are still not good enough. I try to address this in advance of new videos in order to improve the quality again. Unfortunately, this no longer works so well with the older videos and I can only try different service providers. The whole topic also takes a lot of time. I ask for your patience and thank everyone who supports me.

@@talla83en I understand that completely. I did not in any way mean to sound ungrateful in my comment before. I truly appreciate you making videos that help me and others struggling in the linuxcnc and mesa world. Thank you!

I have difficulties separating 2 voices. It effectively results in not hearing any. You should only have the voice over or the original language.
Very interesting topic so kudos for that!
