This is one of the most horrifying horror games of this year. Imagine being a frenchman. Sends shivers down my spine
it's really a spooky scary game
One of my worst fears
You're not even human at that point, you're just a freaky frog mutant.
The sheer fact you CAN'T SEE THE MONSTER in the dark, but you can hear it roaming inside the room you're hiding in, is absolutely horrific. 10/10 horror game.
the fr*nch 😱😱😱😱
The fact that Mark genuinely looks terrified makes me excited as hell for this series.
Yes, I rarely am scared of games. The only other game of the famous horrors I have played that scared me was amnesia the dark descent. This game? This game is absolutely fucking terrifying. I have never felt so close to a heart attack in my life. I got chased by a curious emu once and I wasn’t this scared.
Edit: it was a Struthioniformes not an emu. Slight difference but makes it a lot scarier than an emu

It's a sick game and the monster is gruesome

So responsibly it's gaseous in both forms of the word but people misunderstand the slang used for car gas.
Still it's a bit stupid overall and leads to confusion!
@@fenn_fren I don't think that was the case. Mark thought that he was being warned about tear gas, but he suddenly remembered that it was world war 1, and mustard gas was a thing back then
Gotta love how Mark sees and identifies a trapped door with a grenade on it, realizes the grenade is strung to blow when the door opens, then opens the door and is shocked when the grenade goes off.
You never cease to amaze me, Mark.
Bro even slowed down as he opened it,like he thought the grenade was listening for the door opening instead of having the pin tied to it.
@@Stanfordscienceman Definitely didn't thought that. It was the angle from where he opened it that made it slower.

He still gets scared every once in a while, its not that rare

When they said "if you think something is possible, it probably is", they didn't take the Markiplier Factor into consideration.
To be fair, they did place an explosive barrel in the exact same area as what you need to blow up, and the note SPECIFICALLY SAYS to blow it up, so it's 100% possible they just put the barrel there to give us a glimmer of false hope before we dive into hell.
Never underestimate Markiplier.

@LuzikArbuzik77 I've played this game for 20 hours so far the generator isn't a trap fuel is pretty readily available what's not is bullets and I fear he's gona be giving them out for free
He didn't think it's a trap. That's not what he meant. His rationale is that he doesn't know what the goal is or where he's meant to go yet, so if he starts up the generator, he'll just burn all the oil, then when he actually needs to do something, he'll have no fuel.
@@dredgeqrow9507 I am not talking about what is really a trap or not, I am saying that it looks like one when you don't have in-game experience.

I love how amnesia always makes light a commodity. In the first one and rebirth it was a consumable, but you light things like candles as you go to make permanent lights. Now you trade using your light with making noise, but the stationary lighting now uses fuel. I think it makes the game that much scarier.
Completely agree, honestly to me the lack of light just makes it all the more horrifying and anxiety inducing lol.
It definitely helps the horror vibe, but when I was playing Dark Descent, I completely ran out of oil in my lantern and was in the Basement, potentially the darkest area in the game. At that point it was less about being scared and more that I just couldn’t progress at all due to being completely blind 😂
I agree. I also like that this game doesn’t make any light a resource but makes a light that makes more danger your backup. As a slow player that goofs about a bit I constantly ran out of light in the previous games.
honestly i kind of want a flashlight like that IRL now. Having an analog battery-free light source that isn't made of fire just seems handy to have.

Also. The monster does not get out of the hole before you turn the valve unless you make A LOT OF NOISE near a hole or if you pass near the hole when he is making noise. Monster only really gets of the hole and starts stalking after the valve turn

Mark spotting the grenade, actually mentioning it, and then opening the door without a thought as to why it might be there and have a string attached to it just perfectly sums up everything you need to know about any Markiplier playthrough.
That flashlight is awesome. They make real flashlights in where you got to crank to power them. They been around a long time. Forgot about this one releasing and just a couple days before it did I was watching a restoration on an old crank flashlight thinking it would be cool if someone added this to a horror game. Just a couple days later this game came out. Thank you Amnesia Devs we needed this to mess with Markiplier and well because it's a really neat thing that should be in more horror games. They fit so well.
My sister and I had wind up flashlight each when we were kids. Wasnt a pull cord like this but a handle on the side to wind round. Like the one in this game it hardly lit anything and needed constant winding lol. Its a great and scary game mechanic to use.
@@kelknox A lot of the ones they made the batteries just didn't really last long. New they would hold a charge. Unlike the super old ones they were more meant for emergencies only. You can still buy them like that today I believe. When I was a kid we had one that did both light and radio. All the time messed with it because it was just so interesting. It's still a neat thing to have for emergencies.
It's actually possible to get one and upgrade it but yeah typically after a point they were more in mind for just using in an emergency . I'd kind of like to buy one today more like a conversation piece.
yes, good in horror games, but these must have been horrible in WW1! Enemy could hear cranking a mile away!
We had wind up flashlights along with candles in our emergency kit for when the power would go out as a kid, my parents basically let us treat them like toys when they needed us to help crank the flashlights because that meant they didn’t have to haha
@@kelknox Although, tube flashlights like what we have to was already made in WW1 in USA. It's called Eveready Daylo flashlight. The brand Daylo didn't stick but the word flashlight did so everyone just sticked to calling them flashlight
They freaking did it, after hundreds of horror games this is the game that made Mark scared again
It is fascinating how this game induces fear without ever showing you the monster. All you see are mauled corpses and large chewed out holes and all you hear is the grunts and heavy footsteps of something big lurking around.
Does it? It just felt like a friendly roommate when I played. You can actually do a lot and he'll just stay in the walls 90% of the time.
And when he does come out, going around a corner and breaking line of sight makes him instantly forget you exist.
The noises were never scary to me, because it was obvious they don't actually mean anything and are just sound effects being played randomly.

i love how this taps into the horror potential of WW1 trench warfare in the most brutal way.
Truly. In my honest opinion, there is no better a setting for horror games than the trench, dugout, and bunker complexes of the front lines of WW1.
Death looms around every corner you turn, and there's no shortage of truly horrific ways to die, as is commonly reminded by the festering remains of your close friends and comrades in arms strewn all over the place.
You're confined to these narrow, winding, maze-like passageways either because there's literally nowhere else to go, or because exiting the rather questionable safety of the hole will instead only guarantee death, either by the enemies in the trench 50 yards away, or by your own country sentencing your execution in court martial.
The bleak and dead environments combined with this ever-present threat of death in a setting hostile to everything that moves makes a perfect place to set a horror game.
A movie that I thought did the WW1 horror really well was Bunker (2022). It's much more confined than Amnesia, and revolves around a group, but it really leans into the horror of war and being confined in a small space with something that wants them to suffer. Really a 10/10 movie, personally. It really leans into the psychological torment and degradation of the men, but doesn't skimp on body horror and blood.
I believe Trench 11 (2017) is another World War horror movie, though I haven't watched it yet. It revolves much more around parasite horror, I've heard, but, y'know. Can't really escape a setting like World War 1.
I recommend checking them out. Or don't. I'm not your dad
@@no-legjohnny3691I thought this took place during WWII??? There were bunkers and trench warfare in WWII as well. I know this because my grandfather fought in WWII during the battle of the bulge. He was in a trench firing anti-aircraft guns at German planes to prevent the Germans from crossing the river seine in France.
@@ultimatewitcherfan6677 While trench combat was present in WW2, it was FAR more limited than in WW1 which was practically defined by trench combat on the western front.
But you can also tell it's a WW1 setting because of a bunch of little factors, such as the French soldiers' uniforms being the gray-blue ones they started issuing a few weeks into the conflict in 1914 or the German WW1 era uniform which was a deep olive-drab green with red highlights, or the M2 gas mask used by the Entente in the war. Also, I believe the years are shown to be in the 1910s in the letters and notes people leave lying around as well.
@@no-legjohnny3691
i dont think you even have to go that deep. The first quote in the game tells you this is ww1, and the the setting with the trench warfare and French and German soldiers is very clearly ww1 in setting.
Also the game literally spells out in the letters that the game takes place in July 1916, which was during the battle of the Somme in ww1, but since this is the French side i'd assume more likely Verdun which also took place in 1916, (hard to pinpoint exact location since small actions took place all over the front but since those are 2 major offensives in 1916, i'd wager this is set in the Battle of Verdun which took place from feb - dec 1916).
“I didn’t even get that meat off of that guy”
Definitely one of THE Markiplier quotes of all time
Just watched that part as I saw this comment
I was listening to this while getting ready, and just the moment where Mark says:
"WHAT DID I JUST PICK UP?"
*Horrified silence*
"I have meat now..."
Was perfect comedic timing
You know it's a solid game when the monster isn't even shown and Mark's freaking the heck out
That's the thing about frictional games, there could be no monster at all and it would still be terrifying
I like how the best gauge of Mark's horror is the frequency of how often he says "good"
The sound design is vital to that feeling of something following you, just one room away
Out of all the games I played, this one has the BEST sound design.
Thanks for telling us what happened with the previous Amnesia, I was so bummed when you didn't finish but figured there was a good reason behind it! I hope you'll be able to replay it some day to experience the whole story!
Yeah, I remembered keep coming back to this channel every couple of weeks just to check if Mark continues Amnesia Rebirth. Thanks for giving us closure.
I had the same glitch he had. All he had to do was a repair of the game and it corrected the issue. Really sad he never tried to correct it
I'm pretty sure he'd already mentioned what happened a couple times around the time he stopped playing it.
Not trying to attack or anything, just letting you know he didn't just drop it without a word.
Mark has a talent for making an horror game scarier just by bungling around
Mark, please lock the door behind you everytime you enter a room. My anxiety is at peak everytime you leave it open.
Yesssssss. I scream at him to shut it EVERY TIME
Omg, yes!!!! Every time he leaves a door open, I find myself screaming at him to shut and lock it!! It sends my anxiety through the roof when he doesn’t!
However have you considered that
1. The monster can travel through holes in the wall. So doors are meaningless to it.
2. You can't fit through the holes. So doors are your only escape route. Closing the door behind you would make it much harder to run away from anything chasing you. 👀
Mark not using the generator was actually a really good call because the monster won’t start roaming until you lift the lockdown
So he basically gave the game a relative safe mode lmao.
Yeah, it makes sense if the monster starts roaming around after the generator turned on, that means it knows *someone* turned the generator on.
I'm sorry, wdym the lockdown
At the beginning of the game most of the map is locked off due to the bunker being on lockdown. You lift lockdown by acquiring a red wheel and using it to lift the lockdown. If the wheel hasn’t been used yet the monster won’t patrol, but it can still kill you if you walk near a hole that it’s in
@@FUNKY_KETCHUPno it doesn't. The generator actually helps with the monster, making it come out less often as it hates light. The generator is super helpful.
It never ceases to amaze me how well Mark can Fail successfully. haha. Jokes aside Mark was spot on with the idea that the monster doesn't show up right away so saving his fuel was an impeccable strategy. As terrifying as it is. I think this game is scarier than any previous Amnesia game. Just watching it gives me chills. I think it's mainly because im claustrophobic and these tight corridors and being underground is adding to my overall sense of dread.
As soon as he gets gas it CAN show up. The game basically starts when that guy dies in the Kitchen.
@@DanVegas27nah actually the game starts when the player unlocks a new area. In the main area the game just plays bunch of sounds of a monster to make it look like it's here while it's not. (Although after the player unlocks a new area the creature CAN indeed spawn in the main but until that it can't)
And it helps to teach the player how much noise it takes to summon the monster

@@joemac9249 yeah, it was a little dragged, but I felt as tho the scary factor of not knowing anything about anything until 2 or 3 hours in was the best part of the game
@@whatagod_pod I just need to download again on xbox account as I switched SDD.
But I will be giving a 2nd go real soon.
Its honestly my fault I am also slow to get into some games.
Even Soma which I love to my core now.
It took me 2 attempts.
this game is no joke one of the scariest things ive seen, they do horror right, its not even dread its just straight up TERROR, no jumpscares needed
Real life is the scariest thing.
its cause hes french
Lixian really outdid himself with the sass in this episode.
Played this game solo, can tell you it’s genuinely terrifying and one of the scariest games I’ve played! Glad to see markiplier playing it I cannot wait for this series to continue
Agreed, it's terrifying. I just started it recently and read that the monster doesn't reveal itself until you get the red wheel. But man, I'm literally walking around with crap in my pants from the sheer fear of it. It is a true horror experience in my opinion.
@@DocteurSnow collab?
You can feel free to leave the lights on, the fuel for the generator is plentiful (and eventually nearly infinite). The only main concern is making sure to check on it consistently every half hour or so (at a full tank) to make sure it doesn’t go out on you unexpectedly. Loved the first episode, you’ll have a lot of fun with the game!
I don't think I've seen Mark this genuinely scared in years. It really tickles me.
Gorillaz pfp
I absolutely LOVE that mark still puts soma as one of his all time favorite games. Ever since I watched that series as a kid, its been in my top 3 favorite games ever made. When I rewatched it years later, all the philosophical questions that went over my head as a kid hit me like a truck. Its very rare that something can genuinely change my perception about life and consciousness like soma did. I still think about it to this day ^__^
Fucking yes, finally almost an hour scary video with Markiplier.
I can see how this is gonna go.
Mark is gonna either not turn on the lights and yell about it being dark or he's gonna have lights and yell about wasting resources
Mark: *Rotating and examining a burnt ribcage*
Also Mark: G O O D
I love the hand you added on min 25:00 when you pointed out the parts of the map. It was a nice touch to keep the eyes of the viewers following your eyes as well. Good work!
Markiplier playing Amnesia is always nostalgic!
Kids these days wouldn't understand 2012.
@@FatGuyEngineer I would, cuz I was there.
Mark + Amnesia = Perfection
@@MbitaChizi no
@@MbitaChizi I got u bro
I didn't expect to expect you to be here.
2012... time flies! Or get eaten by monsters!
Mark + Amnesia = ???
This brings back so many memories. Feels just like yesterday Mark had his mowhawk hairdo, carrying Tiny Box Tim as his faithful companion
The Amnesia playthroughs are always the best. Not only is Mark yet again playing Amnesia, the game itself is designed so well its always watching one of the best play one of the best. Please grind this one out we need more
The game - “Don’t cause to much sound as it will find you if you do”
Mark after blowing up a grenade and hiding in a room ✨*flashlight*✨
mark is losing his mind and thats what we missed about amnesia. it tears you apart from your fears inside out. I truly cannot get enough of the compelling and such fruitful stories amnesia has countlessly delivered. im a fan, for short.
I love how much of a true return to form it feels so far. The setting may be much different from the original, but theyre nailing what the other sequels failed at. Love to Mark playing it too
The setting really reminds me of the first penumbra, so to me it feels like it's going even more back to its roots. In dark tunnels, the monster is growling like a dog, you can use meat to bait it, actually have a weapon but it's too dinky to be reliable.
@@p3p3-music65OMG you just unlocked an entire core memory of Penumbra Black Plague that I had for some reason forgotten about!! 😅
Rolling the barrel of gunpowder down the hallway to see if it would let mark out is the most mark thing EVER
I've been putting off watching everyone else play this because I KNEW you'd come through. this is gonna be so damn good
If the rest of the game is like this episode? It's gonna be great. I remember the old Custom Stories days.
I’ve seen other playthroughs, and this game is actually really good and scary. You won’t be disappointed.
As a French, hearing Mark speaking the accent is pure gold
"As a French"
@@brendanrisney2449?
@@jsportsupdates807 I think they were just drawing attention to the incorrect grammar. "French" is an adjective in English, not a noun (except when referring to the language, not the nationality). _"The_ French" can be correctly used as collective noun, but not _"A_ French". So one would say "I am French, so..." or "As a French person..." or "Being from France..." or "As one of the French..."
That said, it's such a trivial error that it could just qualify as a stylistic choice, so no big deal.
@@falleithani5411 Wasn't exactly trying to correct it, or anything, I just liked it. Gives me goofy meme vibes from somewhere.
When Mark said “c’est la vie” I’m sorry but my heart literally smiled a beat 9:17
With a perfect accent too 😭
It's been nothing but noises and atmosphere so far and it's still terrifying.
Amnesia truly is back.
this game has a very cool way to deal with damage and ammo that is a lot more interactive than other games, seems like it’s gonna be slower and less fast paced but it fits the horror genre so well
"slower" I've heard the real game is super short and the fastest Speedrun is about 1:40, it takes 50 from the timer start to controlling your character so it's really 50 seconds
@@ravencollins5638 that 1:40 speedrun uses glitches to clip outside the bunker and trigger the cutscene. so that's not really a good testament to how short the game is
@@ravencollins5638 Judging the length of a game based off speedruns is... NOT the way to do it.
Imagine doing this and thinking that Ocarina of Time is a really short game as well
@@ravencollins5638 "Yeah but if you noclip through the map it's like super short so bad game short game"
What? Lmao, a speedrun, much less a GLITCHED speedrun is absolutely not the way to judge a game's length.
Just last night I thought to myself "I hope Markiplier goes through the new amnesia game, it would be a nice throwback."
So anyway thank you for doing this, and how dare you read my mind like that, it's an invasion of privacy.
I love WW1 horror, and also Lovecraftian horror.
The fact that this game does BOTH at once is grounds for instant buy.
Forgetting about a bullet in less than ten seconds is peak Markiplier.
Mark not wanting to use any consumable or limited resource ever and just have it there is such a mood
ive hoarded close to a hundred health, mana and stamina potions in skyrim plus tons of other potions and im like "ill use these when i need em"
beat the game, maybe used like 40 of each 3 potions and never used any scrolls
such a mood
I love how mark sees the obvious bomb trap but still opens the door as if expecting nothing would happen
yknow, i'm not a big amnesia fan. i don't know anything about any of the other games. but this playthrough is really comforting. i have nightmares sort of like this, where i'm trapped in a place with a monster that really wants me dead. the difference is this playthrkugh has mark's voice over it, and my nightmare's don't. maybe that's why i love it so much.
I was there, Mark. Back when you had 300 subs and were playing Amnesia The Dark Descent. I was there through all of your custom stories. I am so proud to be among the first thousands of people who first believed in you, and still are, after these many years. Thank you my bro. This is truly emotional for me.
Oh, I dig your hair, by the way.
The first series I watched on this channel over a decade ago was Mark's first Amnesia playthrough. It's so nostalgic seeing him play one again :D
The original SCP for me, then Amnesia. I subbed back when he had... Like... 80k subs? Time flies, doesn't it?
Looking forward to this one.
The concept of the game is definitely well done. The whole one room as your "base of operations" that you need to frequently visit and then head out for expeditions in the bunker is a very cool concept gameplay wise.
I agree, but it's nowhere near unique. Here, I'll name some games that have this as a feature. Minecraft, Astroneer, Raft, Into The Radius, Satisfactory, Terraria, Fallout 4, Fallout Shelter, Far Cry New Dawn, etc, etc, etc.
This feels like the RE7 of the amnesia series, a smaller scale and bigger focus on horror in order to return to form for the series after the previous game went off the rails
My god this game is terrifying and im glad to see its not just me, it has been so long since a game has scared me as much as this game has because the feeling of the monster being right around the corner at all time is just so brutal!
Same! I know I'm quite the coward with horror games, but it made me feel oddly proud to see that Mark was just as terrified as I was when I played lol
For anyone not wanting to go back at 34:44 and read here's what it read
"Noise is dangerous.Consider being careful how much of it you make".
this feels so nostalgic. glad to see markiplier get back to Amnesia 💯
Every time he says "I'm not crazy right?" I think of "crazy? I was crazy once. They put me in a room a room with rats and rats make me crazy."
i was searching for a comment like this when i got to that part lmfao
ME TOO LMAO
Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A rubber room. A rubber room full of rats. Rats make me crazy.
where is this quote from?
edit: nvm i got it lol
omg yea same
Game:don't make noises
Mark:let's make as much noise as possible
