My Great Grandfather fought in this war and was also highly decorated. Although I don't recall which regiment he was fighting for. He passed away in 2000 at the age of 109.
The saddest part of the world Wll is that it was fought in the land of ignorance and peace where the inhabitants of that region had no slight concerned with either party involved in war. The Nagas who did not had any clues of the ideologies and objectives of either Britishers and Japanese felled victims and suffered miserably in the war. Despite suffering and anony, the Nagas extended assistance as an informers, porters, providing local vegetables, paddy and so on to both the parties. But the situation aftermath of the War was so ironical as both the parties leave the Nagas without any words under the government of India. I personally regret that the Britishers would have had clearly pointed out that Nagas and Indians are two different ethnic groups and the Nagas should be leave alone to determine their own fates and future. The Nagas had sacrificed in world War ll and has been sacrificing in the name of Indo-Naga political issues since 1947. If the Britishers clearly stated that Indian and Nagas are two different entities then Indian would not have been interfering in the internal affairs and the freedoms of the Nagas.
Awesome. We need to forgive and make peace to move forward and progress. I remember in 1996 a group of former Japanese Imperial Army came to Sarawak (Malaysian Borneo) and made peace and reconciliation with the native Borneons for the atrocities inflicted by both sides during the war. The Dayaks (Borneon natives) too have not came out clean of the war. In fact theu were involved in some of the most brutal killing of the Japanese forces including reliving the headhunting practice a tradition long banned bybthe Ditch and British, solely for Japanese army heads. I remember in my grandfather's photo during a victory parade one native chief displayed a skull of a police chief (who tortured him severely during the war) after the war. The jungle of Borneo was basically neutral of the invading Japanese. The fierce and forest dwelling tribes of Borneo were as brutal as the invading force, in fact were responsible for many undocumented war 'crimes' and inhumane treatment of their enemies.
Yeah 4-5 years back couple of them came to seek forgiveness and rebuild the trust and respect, it was highlighted on Nagaland Post too,, Sadly, but till to these day nagas are still suffering

A land so distinct that it had never been conquered by any Indian empire since time immemorial but when the Britishers left they gave our land as a parting gift to the Indians and to this day the struggle for Naga Independence continuous. ~Kuknalim~ ~ Victory to the land and its people~

The hearts of the Nagas was won by E. Pawsey's words. But after the war, He(Pawsey) left the nagas to decide for their own future under the hostile Indian Armies. Had the Nagas fought alongside the brave Japanese, wonder what the result might be from now. Because after the war,as the bristish simply left us all alone, exposing us to dangers, the hostile Indian armies came, captured, burnt many villages to ashes and tortured, raped, beheaded many innocent NAGAS. The attrocities meted out to the Nagas by the Hostile Indian armies shall never go unpunished by the Supreme Being.

23:05 "After the war our people became brave like Japanese and educated like British." Mr. Poswuyi Swuro from this village was the first appointed administration representative of the Azad Hind Government in Nagaland in 1944. I have met him last year and taken his interview. A fascinating , informative & balanced documentary. Also interesting to read these comments. My father was in the British Second Division at the Battle of Kohima, and always spoke very highly of the Nagas. He said they ran uphill without effort, their legs were so strong, and were always cheerful, with a great sense of humour. For example, he said that one of his comrades tried to 'chat up' a young Naga woman. As he tried to converse with her he kept feeling something tickling his backside. Thinking it was some insect he tried rubbing it off, and the girl started giggling. He turned round and there was this Naga man crouching down prodding him with a spear. Yes, the British wouldnt have won the Battle by themselves. And it was the decision by General Sato to retreat , against orders , to save his men, that brought it to an end.
British were able to win the battle. Reinforcements were on time. Also the RAF aircrafts from Dhaka were bombing japanese supplies. Along with that, British ammunition reached Allied army without any obstructions.
@@rajesrecipe2492 Yes, supply by air drops was vital. The Indian dispatchers (the men who pushed the supplies out of the open aircraft doors ) were fearless.

India is a forced creation. It composed of hundreds of ethnic groups, many of which don’t want to be ruled by a Hindu majority.
The Japanese did come back to apologise ...

Pukhali Sema, they Embassy with few other leaders came to Khedi Baptist Church in Kohima some years ago
They also come to Manipur to forgive and forget the past.
Yeah 4-5 years back couple of them came to seek forgiveness and rebuild the trust and respect, it was highlighted on Nagaland Post too,,
Sadly, but till to these day nagas are still suffering

There were tons of soldiers from Mainland too. The majority of them made up the bulk of the Indian Army in South Asia and Burma in WW2.

Thanks for uploading this, it was very informative. Nagaland is always close to my heart, especially Kohima because Kohima is my birth place. Battle of Kohima was no doubt a very significant and historical war. Brutal truth @ 21:00 "the Japanese lost the war because they did not bring their tiffin". I 💓 Nagaland
The British Empire sold us out to the Indians. They basically conquered a self-sustaining contiguous independent village republics with its people having no historical, cultural, religious or racial commonality with India. A land so distinct that it had never been conquered by any Indian empire since time immemorial but when the Britishers left they gave our land as a parting gift to the Indians and to this day the struggle for Naga Independence continuous.

The Naga has been among the first tribe to embrace Christianity. Too bad they fell under the administrations of evil and corrupt majority, notnof their own but of the Indians and the Burmese.

23:05 "After the war our people became brave like Japanese and educated like British." Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and his Indian National Army along with the Japanese force reached Kohima in 1944 and a base camp was established at Ruzazho, the first Azad Hind Government administered Village.
Mr. Poswuyi Swuro from this village was the first appointed administration representative of the Azad Hind Government in Nagaland in 1944. I have met him last year and taken his interview. His views should have been included in this documentary to make it neutral and not biased towards the British narrative. Jai Hind...
Azad hind government in Nagaland is just a concoction of some people's narration. This documentary itself is witness to that.
@@vezhonakro4456 So the WW-2 shrapnels, bunkers in the hills around Ruzazho are all hoax, according to you. What do you think about the origin of the name “Netaji Peak” at Chesezu Nasa?
@@KarmicVagabond I am not rebutting the facts of the remnants of WW II at Ruzazho or at any other place in Nagaland but I am only referring to the establishment of 'Azad hind Government' as a historical recognized fact in Nagaland in 1944.
@@vezhonakro4456 I don’t know whether Revered Poswiyi Swuro Sir is still alive or not. You may talk to him or his nephew, Shri Veduto Swuro directly. Involvement of INA under Netaji was deliberately kept under wraps by Congress Govts. After the defeat of Japan British Indian army (Gurkhas) were set upon the village for revenge.
A book has been published by Er. Vekho Swuro (son of Sri Poswuyi) which has been translated in Bengali - "Discovery of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose : Delhi Chalo Last Camp in Nagaland". "Netaji with the Nagas" - a 45 minutes documentary has been produced by Sri Vekho.
But I couldn’t get a copy of that. Must be in some local University library. If you can lay hand on one such copy please let me know. Ruzazho Village was deliberately neglected by successive central governments. Only the new government has recognised their contribution in Indian Independence War.

Indeed true. I guess you must be from the UK. Thanks for the comment and feedback! 👍👍
being tickled with a spear would kill any amorous intent
British were able to win the battle. Reinforcements were on time. Also the RAF aircrafts from Dhaka were bombing japanese supplies.
Along with that, British ammunition reached Allied army without any obstructions.
@@rajesrecipe2492 Yes, supply by air drops was vital. The Indian dispatchers (the men who pushed the supplies out of the open aircraft doors ) were fearless.

The ungrateful Britishers left the Nagas as no man's child and thereby the shameless Indian who theselves suffered at the hands of the colonial power invaded our country. You may lie thousands times to the people but the historical fact of militarily conquered our land, burning our villages, raping and burying alive the Nagas cannot go unnoticed and it will remains so. Its time for the Britsihers to correct their wrong doings.
