Ryan..You might like to check out the Birdman Rally or beer can regatta. 😅
Definitely second this recommendation!!
Yep definitely the beer can regatta
Totally. The best part of Moomba
We also had the milk carton regatta
@@SalisburyKarateClub
We did? When? Here in Melbourne? Was I having my nana nap then lol.
I’ve never heard of the box wars either. Do they still have the bird man rally? I don’t watch as much tv these days, internet sorta got in the way lol
As an Australian, i have no idea what that is.
The perfect reason to come to an American channel, to find out more about my own country.
I have seen the occasional box war segment on TV. Looks fun, but the football codes are safe. 🇦🇺
Recently had to look this up. I think Ballarat? have them... not sure who else? It looks super cool!
“As an ______” infers you are speaking for the group, or from a position which has unique and special knowledge.
“As a mother” is a common, and particularly grating example.
Same, I never heard of it. But it looks so fun.
The contents of this package may contain traces of nuts 😂😂😂
I’m an Aussie in South Australia, this is the first time I have heard of this sport/recreation.
Yep, the Darwin beer can regatta or Alice Springs Henley-on-Todd Regatta
Thinking inside the box.
Or not thinking inside the box 🤣
Consent is given when you participate in the live battle.
Injuries: a bunch of paper cuts and hurt ego.....but everyone 'loses' in that their creations are destroyed....but TONNES of fun!
Here is a suggestion: why don't you, Ryan. plan to have a Box Wars birthday party when your son is old enough to have friends over. Make it a friends and family event. Give everyone 2 months notice to plan, gather resources and build their constructions and choose a day where all can gather at a local park and battle it out. Choose a theme that can be educational that fosters parent-children dialogue; set out some ground rules for battle and go from there. No tears when creations are destroyed, as the purpose is making lasting positive memories, not just 'stuff'.
Things to consider.
No alcohol required!
Ppl have forgotten how to have fun.
To much screen time.
Its good to c fellow ozzie acting like big kids and enjoying life the way it's ment to be.
The worst injury probably a Papercut.
Was about to say the same thing :)
@@the-flatulator 🤣
They probably have a box for first aid ⛑️
@@21gioni 🤣
Look up the Todd River boat race it’s a dry river boat race cardboard box style
Born and bred Aussie here, this is brand new to me.
I've been to Box Wars many times! Such a great day. My daughters birthday is in Boxing Day, so every year we went along to get our Box on!
The cardboard drones that an Aust company sent to Ukraine seemed pretty useful.
This may have been where they were invented
Ryan, I think it is consent if you are there 😂😂😂
Yea, Australians come up with some pretty nutty stuff 🤣🤣🤣
The guy talking is a kiwi
That's great fun and a useful recycling idea! No real Hollywood Stars were harmed in the making of this epic adventure! Brilliant, but I prefer to watch the Knights jousting on huge horses, or the wet Beer Can Regatta! 😄
The legend actually watches what he notes down weeks or months prior, top bloke
Yeah. Huge sport. Semi-finals are held during the races on the hill at Mt Panorama, Bathurst. Grand final is at Penrith Oval on the day after Christmas.
Grand final on boxing day.
I’m an Aussie and I’ve never heard or seen this in my life.
😂😂😂 I'm in 😂😂😂😂
I love being Australian 😂
I don't think it's specific to Aus, but reminds me of a drinking game called wizards staff. The combatants need a carton of canned beer, and a roll of duct tape. A score is decided, between 6-10. Each time you finish a can, a fresh one is taped to the top, so you end up drinking from a beercan staff. When the score is achieved, the winner challenges the other wizards to a mighty duel. Where you precede to pummel each other with your staff of power. Wizardly conduct is expected, snide insults and fancy language. It's a grand ol time.
Weird
If someone is participating in such an activity and dressed accordingly. In this case, wearing cardboard or carrying a cardboard weapon, you have implied consent to hit them with your cardboard weapon. A reasonable person would conclude that they were ready to battle according to Australian law.
Wait- which chapter & section is this in? And are there definitions?
@@becsterbrisbane6275Comes under the chapter ‘she’ll be right’, surely you studied that in primary school??
👍🤣🤣
First time hearing this, live in NSW.
You do realise the biggest box manufacturer in the world is an Australian? His name is Pratt would you believe 😂🤣 and he has a factory in the US called Visy. Perhaps he should sponsor Box Wars? 🤣😂
That was a very funny reaction Ryan, I laughed
This what happens to humans when owning guns is illegal
It's not illegal to own guns, though.
Look at all the wholesome FUN you can have when your society Doesnt worship gun's
I have seen cardboard box regatta where they build boats with open bottoms and sprint up a dry creek bed, the only thing I can find is building boats from cardboard and see how far they'll float, and birdman something where they build air plane structures out of cardboard and see if they fly over water( always a flop) but the only reference to birdman is a bushranger who would ride an Emu .
This is new to me, but it's brilliant. What else would you expect from the home of Mad Max?
You really need to check out Bull catching Australian style
i know someone who has taken part in this event in melbourne. it's not a well known thing, just one of many things to do here haha.
This is the type of thing we do instead of going back to war with the EMU who we already loat to once
Boxwars is the sort of thing I'd expect to see represented at a medieval faire, but have yet to see it. At least those guys are very organised and do a great job of all of it. I've seen stranger things in Australia, like the "Mundi Mundi Undi Run" at the Mundi Mundi Bash music festival.
As a life-long resident of Melbourne, this is the first time I've heard of this. But it looks pretty awesome!
In high school we had to build a raft and race it across the nearby canal on the gold coast Queensland. Back then in 86 there were no life jackets and it was well known there was bull sharks around Merrimac. I miss the carefree days
Worst injury, paper cuts!! Lol
Ryan please check out the Henley On Todd Regatta in the NT, the only boat race with no water.
NSW here. Have never heard of this. Victorians lol. Ryan is educating us Aussies
Wholesome fun, definitely better than protester wars!!
Back in the ‘70s, there were combat bats. Where people could go wild hitting each other without doing any harm. Well, no physical harm.
My guess is their worse injury is the dreaded Paper-cut!... 🤣
Countries should fight their wars with recycled cardboard.
Having lived in Melbourne for over 60 years, I've never heard of this. Which suggests that it's not a highly-popular activity.
OMG! The paper cuts!!😅
As a 67 year old Australian I've never heard of this!
"lol how do you tackle a full grown man and hit him with your cardboard sword if your not drunk?" right
I didn’t know about this until you reacted to a quick clip in a larger video
That's hilarious. I had no idea
I've never heard of this Ryan, it must be a Melbourne thing. Not something i would do, but it looks like they're having fun.
I'm from Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺 & I have Never heard of Box Wars.
This sort of thing is usually localised, ie in particular country towns or certain urban districts. I’ve never seen this at all but I’m not in Melbourne. I do know of the Tuna Toss, search for that one! Originally it was fresh tuna but these days they use fake ones, more durable.
Check out the beer can regatta or Henley on Todd (boat race in dry river bed)
It just had to be a Melbourne thing. Have never heard of it over here in Perth..
But I would have loved this when I was in my 20's... It sure looks fun.
Something different as long as you have fun.
Never heard of this until now.
Ah it's a Melbourne thing, I am in Sydney and I think I heard about it once, would be cool to be a part of.
you may also like the milk carton regatta
Mate, this is Australia. Of course there is alcohol involved.. having said that I've never heard of box wars. Have you seen the Australia Day dunny races? You must investigate..
Erm, I guess you haven't heard of the milk carton regatta
Lol I'm an Aussie and never heard of it but in watching it yup, I can see it would be a totally Aussie thing to do. Maybe it's only done in Victoria and the craze just hasn't hit the other states yet.... But it will lol.
First we had world wars, Star Wars, clone wars and now box wars
we also have Wheelbarrow Wife races. Look it up. It's a thing and it's awesome
Hey ryan as far as i know we dont have that in QLD Australia but we have and do LARP. Its great check it out.
I've lived here in Aus. for 60 years and I've never heard of this shit! Cool! Ryan, check out the Moomba Birdman Rally in Melbourne!
Good music for this pastime, AC/DC - TNT
I'm a Aussie and if your interested in the Australian culture you should check out summernats its Australian cars that's all I'm gonna say😂😂
I am Australian and I have never heard of this 🤷
Ryan, if they enter the arena you have their consent!!
You haven't seen the Henley on Todd Regatta boat races held in Alice Springs yeah a boat race in the middle of the Australian Desert
I live in Melbourne, and I'd never heard of this 😅
Dude, it's war. No consent required. You participate at your own peril, that's a given in war. 😂✌❤
Happy Arvo!
Check out the chinchilla melon festival, it’s heaps of fun
Hey Ryan love your show hate to break it to you box wars is not really a thing in Australia looks like fun though
I dare say a fair amount of alcohol was involved in the creation of this lunacy.
I was hoping you would do this. 😎
I've never heard of it.😂
Yesss I really want to do this in the future but I don’t have enough cardboard 🥲
Never heard of this and I live in Melbourne, whatever floats your boat 🚢 I guess 🤷 😜
A suggestion{
Henley on Todd Regatta
THE MOST FUN YOU CAN HAVE WITHOUT WATER AT A BOATING REGATTA
It’s all a lot of fun until someone loses an eye🤣
Consent is implied here, don’t think we worry as much about injuries here…
I love love love this, but wouldn’t do it because I might get hurt…😂
First time ive seen this and im an Aussie 😂
Too much sun, not enough Alcohol. Build a cardboard PUB, that would be impressive. 🦘
G Day Mate, the biggest sporting advent in Australia is about to take place soon. The State of Origin is a 3 game Rugby League Series between NSW and QLD that attracts the highest TV ratings for the year and is shown on 91 counties around the World, including the USA. The below Video is a highlight of the Womens Game 1 from last week. You could get very high numbers on this video. Bet you a Dollar at least more than Cardboard Crap. LOL sorry. Love your Site .
Take Care

Never happens, maybe in Melbourne, but they dont have lots to do down there.
What a load of crock 😂😂😂
Never heard of this 😂🇦🇺
I use to do this when I was young my dad would make a car out of cardboard and then our dog tore it to bits with me inside it but she never hurt me trust me it was fun I was 6 years old when this happened and now I'm 54 so I miss the good old days
Wasza it's ok to laugh at gruuu that's good that is us we will never fall into the trap of taking ourselves seriously what is the point we aren't going to get out alive !
I have seen this on the news
Australian rock
Never heard of box wars.
I hope they all recycle the cardboard 😂
Happy arvo ryan 👍🇭🇲🦘👋🙂
Never heard of it.
