If I were wanting to modify a plane to that extent I would reach out to the KING of custom building. Mike Patey. If he can't come up with some ideas no one can.
1:54 in and i have not watched all the way so far. Sling 4 High Wing comes to mind right away. Sling seems like a helpful company as well. total outsider dreamer point of view. i mean theres wings in my garage but their worth about $5 in kindling
A Cessna Cardinal, Fixed gear, would be best for your handicapped friend. No wing to crawl up. The Cardinal sits lower to the ground. Wheel up to the door opening and slide in.
Just a suggestion but you may want to look at splitting the baggage door hinge pin similar to how the rear seat backs are done. You can then remove the door without scratching the paint and the hinge pin won't try to fall out the bottom like the stock one may. Lots of examples of how to do not online.
Hey Jason, love your videos! I’ve been watching for several years now. You’ve been a huge inspiration to me as an average guy looking to complete a project like this. I used your builder number when I finally ordered my RV14 empennage kit
Always a joy and a smile to watch. Thank you Jason. I would prime in and around the baggage door opening before door seal. The slit for that latch will come last and is still somewhat bendable for final snug fit. Your doing good, just please keep them coming.! This being off the highway seems to doing you good although I am sure you still miss it in many ways.!
Hi Jason! I suggest your Friend contact Vans, and have their Engineering Dept look into making the plane more "User Friendly" for people with disabilities. And as you say, "Where's the Will there's a way!" If your Friend can get into a Cherokee 180, I doubt a RV-10 would be that much more challenging. BEST of luck for him in any event!! Great job with the videos.... and why ISN'T there more than ONE key!?!?!?! I'd contact the manufacturer. (Oh... and JUST having 'lost' a key... put it on a Key Ring... DUHHH!) =)
Yo tengo un problema el kit que estoy armando no viene con chapa de portaequipaje soy de Chile y es difícil conseguir repuestos como estos específicos 😅😅
This past year I heard about a 4th hand conversation of someone handicapped looking at the high wing sling. That looks much easier to get in and out of than a high wing.
Jason, it would probably help to get a little more info from your friend. You mentioned both the RV and Piper..is that to say he is open to both full certified and experimental? Those are very different approval routes. You/he might give Able Flight (google it) a call. I believe they modified an LSA for hand control of the rudder and I remember someone with inoperable legs got their sport license at the same time I was getting my ppl. They might be able to share info or even the engineering for the Form 337/STC if the control system is similar enough. Last ditch, this sounds like something that would be cool to watch Mike Patey chew on. Maybe reach out to him and see if he's up for some charity work after Scrappy!
great to see the videos coming again. Its been a long journey and I look forward to seeing the completed project. By the way, either I missed it or don't recall, but what did you decide on Avionics?
Hey Jason. Great job on your plane as always. I can’t wait to see your new to you plane as well. My family and I flew to Florida in our arrow last Wednesday and will be heading back this coming Tuesday. I know you’re somewhere between Florida and Indiana and I need to make a fuel stop. What airport are you at and how do you feel about that “cup of Coffee” that you’re not drinking anymore?
Check Kit Planes, there is a guy that built a RV6 from a wheel chair with his own hand controls. I'll check to see if I still have the magazine. And get back to you.
I would recommend your friend look up a Formula one racer. Guy pilots a plane named “Limitless” I believe out of Dallas TX. I can’t imagine the only plane he flies is the racer. May be able to get some recommendations from him.
Great job addressing the physical challenges of flying/building. Able Flight (ableflight.org) partnered with Aerospace Center For Excellence (ACE) to build a Zenith 750 in Lakeland, FL last year. They might be a resource to check out.
Sportsman 2+2 would at least help the egress/ingress problem, even if not an RV. It's a good plane if not an RV. As for lowering the RV-10 sill, that would be beyond a major project...

Velocity xl has awesome doors for ingress/ egress. Awesome plane. Best of luck

Maybe a twist rudder could be added to the control stick, or a thumb operated rudder motor? Just some ideas!

That camera angle makes your RV look as long as a B757! Great out of the box thinking on the rivet spacing!

She’s coming along beautifully!
Looking good.

Thank You for showing your work. Saved my weekend.
I wonder if Van’s would have some input on ideas for helping with ingress/egress and rudder controls.
I realize it is kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good site to watch newly released tv shows online ?
@Caden Kellen flixportal
@Reid Tommy thank you, I went there and it seems to work =) I appreciate it !
@Caden Kellen Happy to help =)
No Rivet fan? What do you do when it is HOT!
B4 you loose/damage the key, stop off at your nearest locksmith and have duplicates made.
Could you possible add a bar just below the hinges to pull himself out onto the wing?
Where are you!? I miss your build.

How about the new Sling High Wing?

Would the Sling high wing be a solution? It's a new design
How long have you been building this RV-10?

Well, the whole point of an experimental plane is that you can, well, experiment with stuff. All you need is an idea, like others have mentioned here.

No rivet spacing fan----- use what you've got to your best advantage!
