Just bought my 3rd Volvo (2-2004 S60 Turbos, and now a 2000 S40). I love Volvos. Maybe because they can go from total "grandma's grocery getters", to a really cool looking GT car for just a couple thousand $. I'm really impressed by this 242. Any chance that there is a big pic (wallpaper) of this car online anywhere?
+Blank Stairs Couldn't agree more. I have two 855 T5's. One is only with a bigger turbo and has about 260hp. The other one has fully built motor, even bigger turbo, 3" exhaust from turbo, bigger injectors, new fuel pump, tune and so on.. It has 320hp measured on dyno.
Swedish horse power better than german's. I envy your possiblities to tune up your cars. Here in Finland it is impossible to make cars like these. This is shit country all the way.
im Swedish and have looked up the Swedish laws allot u can have 15kw per 100kg at max if registers as "amateur built car" and if its registered as anything other then its 20% hp gain and 10% nm gain from what the chassis had at most which in 240 is the turbo but u need to upgrade to the turbo brakes then

i'm not well versed in 244 d's tho so i'd ask around in turbo bricks and find out what your looking at for a swap as it may be more to swap than just finding a normal gas one for say 500$ more
m90 gearboxes are on the 900 t5 or t6 engines are transversal engines on the 850 the 900 series have longitudinal engines. the gearboxes are not the same. i've one m90 but for the 6 cylinders diesel from a 900 wich is longitudinal too.

244=4 door sedan, it's what i got but the 242 (2door) is better for drifting and racing. Do research, check out turbo bricks forums, ipdusa [dot] com, v-performance, get an idea of whats out there and what you want to do with it. these things last forever if you know what your doing and most maintenance is fairly easy. personally i'm rebuilding my engine as N/A 280hp, modifying suspension but keeping stock height for offroad and a t5z swap, turboing eventually in future.
How much money id invest if I wanted 5cylinder motor and like 400horsepower, price estimated what the parts only would cost me usd or euros ? Car is volvo 760 -86
Yes they are :-) but the 242 was also made with that new type front end, but they are more rare these days it seems. Anyways, i like them both, and at least I think the new front is prettier on this car. The old front isn't pretty, just bad ass :-) just my opinion though...

But why wouldn't he strap himself up for this type of driving..? If something goes wrong, and the car flips, he would be out that window in the first roll-over, and at these speeds it's not hard to think what will happen then!! Stay safe people, strap yourselves up, and stay off public roads...

there are turbo engines from factory on the 242
they are 4 cylinders.
m90 gearboxes are on the 900
t5 or t6 engines are transversal engines on the 850
the 900 series have longitudinal engines.
the gearboxes are not the same.
i've one m90 but for the 6 cylinders diesel from a 900 wich is longitudinal too.
