This is one of my favorite hacks. I've done this with a few Fender Frontman 25rs. I got ahold of a pair of Celestion 10" speakers from an old Line 6 amp. They were the ones made in Ipswich, England. That surprised me. That little amp smokes. I don't know if it was Rhett Schull who gave me the idea to swap the speaker, but there's something about the clean sound of that amp, especially through a quality speaker. The dirty channel always sounds like a solid state, but with some help from a pedal or 2, you can make that clean channel something really special and tube like. Lots of great sound for not a lot of loot!
This is the move right here!

Yeah I enjoy mine a lot more after the speaker swap. @Nikolaki was into the Celestion 10 too and said it wasn't quite as loud. Looks like they're a bit cheaper as well, so if I was starting over I may try that one instead.

Have the same amp for about 25 years. It’s a great bedroom/practice amp that you can really turn up

Can't decide between the Ragin Cajun or the Legend 1058 speaker

Awesome, yeah this one make my guitar learning way more enjoyable than the stock, but I can't compare to your other options.

@@JesseAdamson Ended up going with the Ragin Cajun. Might put the Legend in my Peavey Envoy amp

@@demerit5 How's that Ragin Cajun sounding?

@@RiffHarvester It's good, totally transformed the Frontman 25r into a respectable amp. I also magaed to scoop up a Texas Heat speaker for 40 bucks and threw that one in my Peavey Bandit.

    I put a Legend 1058 in my Frontman 25r 3 or 4 years ago.
The combo became too loud to use at home and even with the volume knobs all the way down, sound still came out of the speaker.
Imagine a Ragin Cajun, which is even louder!
It sounded great but i could rarely use it because the missus always complained it was too loud and that was with the volume knob halfway to 1 on clean channel.
I recently bought a 10 inch guitar cab with a Celestion Ten 30 inside.
    I swapped the speakers over.
The Celestion Ten 30 is a better fit with my Frontman 25r. Volume knob all the way down equals no sound. Volume on 1 is plenty loud, clean channel starts to break up at 5 and its deafening. It can still keep up with a drummer.
I can use the 1058 via the front panel speaker connector and it sounds better in the external cabinet to my ears.
Very different sounding speakers to be sure - the 1058 has a much smoother top end and more bass.

Nice info. Yeah the 1058 is definitely loud. I keep it mostly at the lowest amp setting and just use the volume on my guitar hah. I was wondering if I could modify the PCB somehow with an extra resistor or something to tone down the volume, but I have not bothered to look into that yet.

Hmm sorry to hear about that, maybe it's a newer version? I think I got mine sometime late 90s but I forget exactly.

Yeah I personally enjoy the sound a lot more with the new speaker, but it is much louder. Since I mostly just play at my house it is annoying that all my volume adjustments now are between 0 and maybe 0.5 on the 0-10 scale.
