You're not the only one who liked it. I liked it a lot, and it gets better with each watch. It builds on the first film as well. It's interesting that once the people (the audience) don't get what they want just like Lee and the rest of Gotham, they turn their back on Arthur and don't give a fuck about him. He never asked to be Joker. Gotham put that on him. Even the name Joker comes from Murray Franklin. I have so much more to say about this movie, but it would take an essay to get all my thoughts out. So many people are not understanding this movie, that's for damn sure. When people finally "get it" I think they'll love it. And if not, I actually think they're too dumb to get it, or have zero empathy for the human condition.
Unnecessary sequel but I felt it was a logical conclusion to Arthur Fleck's sad and tragic life. I like the film's themes about sensationalism. People wanted a Joker movie but got an Arthur Fleck movie and I think that was the point.
I hear your case, I do love the dark music strings as well through the 2 films..def hits you. However this movie even looking at it as it’s own entity was messy. The courtroom story was all over the place, Arthur + Lee’s relationship was so underdeveloped. The film as a musical was messy as well. I love musicals - but this just fell short. I think my favorite scene was when Arthur called Lee and sang to her..the way he sang it was as if he was speaking to her. He’s such a brilliant actor. I just feel they had so much content to use and just wasted it., and to me it was terribly anti-climactic.
@@Ladylore9. that’s absolutely fair. Nothing u said is wrong haha. It’s all incredibly messy haha and all over the place. Haha Expectations are a hell of a thing lol I also think I forgot but I really really love his performance , same with Gaga. So that also carries a lot of the film tbh. This will not age like the first one does for me. In 5 years when I revisit it I’ll be be very curious how I vibe it .
@@SpaceKrakenMedia yeah I mean I really liked them singing together, etc…but it was just out of sync where they just randomly stuck them in different scenes. I suppose it was supposed to be showing Arthur’s brain and how he would just fade out into his own reality and fantasy. The quality was there, but it was all just scrambled 🫠
@@Ladylore9. u mean how they were 50% dream sequences musical numbers ? Yeh that was an odd choice to not make them part of the scenes But I kinda liked the aesthetic and just shrugged off the logic haha

consider the fact, that its not without precedent, that filmmakers, writers etc have spoken out against the interpretation of their respective movies, take fight club, for instance, from which many young men took a similar message and arguably missed the same point- or more recently, breaking bad- phillips just went one, or rather several steps, step further, because not only did he attach an original IP to it, but during folie a deux, theres several moments, that lead the audience on a bit.... i saw people walk out, during different points in the movie and though i think, it was mostly due to them, having had enough of the singing portions, it was clear to me, that many thought, until arthurs confession in court, even up to the prison rape, that this will bring out joker/they will get what they fucking deserve.... and as a fan myself, i can understand why some might feel righteously pissed, it didnt happen, but also, because they probably dont want to admit, they were invested, up to a point, in the now so popular narrative of critics, that it hates its fans....its made really clear, that this regards only a certain sub-set of the first jokers fan base and it mostly gets addressed directly, after the court explosion.... not a whole lot of time is devoted, to showing how unhinged some of his followers are, so i dont buy into the movie existing purely out of spite, i think phillips may have actually trusted his audience too much, because he gives several chances for an out, only to pull you back in- the unfortunate thing about that is, that it really only works once, thankfully it worked for me, that first time and that i rewatched the movie today- i think some fans are taking it so personal, that they take too much of the narrative, at face value, theres a lot more going on here, underneath what some assume is the reality, within the movie.... i can explain, for anyone who is interested, but for now, let me just say, that neither the argument that this movie exists only to spite people (it was joaquins first oscar win and his first sequel and he wouldnt have done it, if he hadnt known about the risk), as a cynical cash grab, its simply too big of an outlier and the claim, that the character of arthur ends, exactly where he started, really makes me question if we watched the same movie
