I first saw you in '67 and have been chasing you ever since....still can't catch you. Your sense of harmony is...well....Very grateful for all the free lessons.

Great interview. And, wow. He isn't completely unique, but over and over again, Carlton comes up with delicious solos that are like song compositions in and of themselves. I think it's impossible to not like his solos. Every single one is just beautiful, and you can listen to it over and over.

Your very lucky to interview Mr Carlton😍I hope u got a few lessons❤️🙏Great stories i related to everything he said! Except he learnt by self discovery by himself the diminished example he said and i learned at music school. Is self discovery better than being taught? Interesting indeed. I teach myself now days.

I was lucky enough to see Mr. Carlton in person last week, second row seats in a small venue right in front of him; all of the good things you're reading here are true. Just let me add he was as engaging and friendly as a person as he was talented and entertaining as a player. Truly a gift for us all.Thank you, Larry.

Justin, he seems like a gentle and generous musician - but just like a guitar really only "sounds good" in the hands of a good player, perhaps your very clear and thoughtful questions gave us this video's quality. This is perhaps the best conversation with Carlton yet recorded. Great work Justin.

I agree the best most respectful interview. I really love Court and Spark and all the Steely Dan stuff but the heart of his craft is the most amazing place you delivered us to.

Now that is just a killer interview. Lucky you, getting Larry to not only share some of his background but to go into chordal theory. That whole bit with the triad shapes over a G pedal blows my mind. Justin, thanks for posting this.

Fantastic, Justin! And thanks, Larry. LC was one of my guitar heroes as a teen; he's got chops to burn, but it's really all about his sound, his touch, and his tastefulness, which make him one of the very, very best.

I saw Larry C.play at a corporate event around 1997 out in CA and just couldn't believe how great his tone was. - everyone in the band was amazing, I heard a tragic story about him being shot in the head a few years later by a burgler and (obviously) surviving through a very close to death experience - if true, that makes his great recent playing even more wonderful.

I wonder if Larry ever played with Phil Keaggy?
Mr. Keaggy I understand has 52 albums.
I'm not sure about Mr Carlton.
Larry is humble, admitting that better guitar players have taught Him.
    Keaggy is the same.
    Great video!
I've noticed that all good guitar players compliment each other.
