- If you have a problem with your 2019 to 2023 ram tailgate not opening this video should show you how to fix it!!!
Tools you’ll need to fix are:
Screw gun
Small flat head screwdriver
T25 bit
T40
Ratchet wrench

Saved my day, couldn’t get into my decked boxes. My dealer told me I had to bring it back next week said they couldn’t open the tailgate unless I removed my side boxes and decked system first. What a joke.
2019 ram owner here, same problem and wondering if anyone else's tailgate stays stuck once it dips below freezing, no matter the pounds, taps, pushes, etc?
I have a 2019 ram Laramie and my tailgate is doing the same thing. I have to actually punch the center with the palms of my hands to engage the mechanism and then I can open it with the latch. If it's so common for these rams how come, there isn't a recall.
There is a recall, look it up, get it fixed free!

My 2023 2500 Longhorn, that is one month old and has 1500 miles, has had the tailgate fall open three times in the past two weeks while driving. It happened multiple times because it sounds as though it’s closing however, following the last occurrence, I pulled on the tailgate after shutting it, and it falls open with no latch resistance. Stellantis claims to have fixed this for the 23s but clearly they have not. I nearly lost an air compressor the final time it opened, and soaked everything in the bed when I went thru a car wash and it opened on its own (I have a soft cover over the bed also).
Very frustrating when I call the dealer and it’s over a week to get it looked at. Warranties that cause you to be inconvenienced, and provide no benefit other than correcting their own mistakes , seem pretty pointless when they’re needed.
Hey so mine did the same thing before the lock issue . It was a recall and that took care of it
I see a bunch of 2019 owners here in 2024; is the lifespan of these things 5 years?! 😑
Literally a brand new truck and it’s already having problems with the tailgate, absolutely disgraceful. 😂
Thanks, nice video. Mine is doing the same thing. Have to give it a push for it to open. It's that same passenger side latch that's getting locked up on mine too.

How do you open it when a plastic lever is missing?? I can’t open it totally. HELP!!
It’s a recall now, take it to the dealer.
I just financed a 2019 yesterday from the dealership and after totaling my jeep going to work Tuesday and there’s a tonneau cover on it and I can’t get into it but the dealer had no problem showing me it opens when he was showing me around and not even 5 hrs later when I was cleaning out my jeep before it went to salvage it would not open. Any tips besides contacting the dealer? I’d hate to have to go back because they are shiesty as hell as I’m sure some of you know. Hopefully someone sees this a responds before my anger issues get the best of me
Ok your gonna have to be patient it won’t stay locked the whole time what I used to do was push on a corner apply pressure and try to unlock it. Sometimes I would go a day before it. Finally just open normally once you have it open unlock the tunnel cover just in case it decides to do it again you can get in order those parts I put on the linkand just follow the video you shouldn’t have that problem anymore once you replace the parts
@@warrenhall6403 bless you man not all heroes wear capes. I race so when warm weather comes the cover is getting taken off. I appreciate it man it was -7 out last night and I had to clean out the jeep so they can tow it out of the shop and I was pissing with the tailgate to get my poles in it and I wasn’t having it. I’ll order that on payday thanks man. One last question seen the video was from 7 months ago so no problems in those 7 months?
