Thank you for getting the flange proud of the tile like it should be. That install will never leak. Also thanks for justifying my buying a dedicated cut-off tool when I already have six perfectly good angle grinders 😂😂
That is incorrect although in this scenario it fits. It’s gotta do with keeping two sealing faces square to each other. If alignments off and one side is cocked out of wack you won’t get true torque values to fasteners. Torque wrench will read x but bc there’s other forces acting against the fasteners you won’t actually be delivering that amount where you need it which could cause a leak. It’s from the piping industry. Source I’m a pipefitter. That’s the best UA-cam university explanation I’m willing to give lol
@@nathanthornton102it's from the industrial and automotive industry before that, star pattern on a wheel rim or cylinder head or pump case prevents warping or cracking the parts, because if you just start at one end on say a cylinder head, you are compressing gasket there, while the other end has a full thickness gasket, and you can crack the head. Hey dude I’m a plumber in Fresno cali. I watched a lot of your short videos. Been plumbing for almost 8 years! Good to see other young dudes doing the trade the right way out there man keep it up 🔧
Dude I do full home renovations with my old man and brother right here in Fresno, like you said it’s always good seeing other young guys take pride in their trade and do things the right way… something we don’t see much of around here in my opinion.
Just visited Fresno for a friend's wedding and his dad's 2 year church anniversary. It's called Hold Fast Baptist Church. It's a great church. Y'all should check it out when you get a chance. Also my friend is a great young guy learning the electrical trade. And yes it's amazing seeing youngins holding their stuff together and following instructions from older wise men.
Those little 3" cut off saws are great. I liked that they are reversible so you can throw the dust one way or the other. Great video! Love the voiceovers.
Bro you are the man love your videos and most of all you are a professional and pls pls pls never stop the voice overs they make my day. Fellow plumber here and your work is clean AF.
Outstanding videos. As old timers. 51 years in the trade. The only problem I see with This system. Is it looks like it reduces the pipe diameter Too around 2 inches. But great video. Keep them coming young BUC. Also love the voice overs. 😅
Thank you you're the first video that explains the required height for the flange. I'm sure I could have googled that but I kept forgetting good thing I'm not a plumber
I love the voice overs, I found your shorts scrolling and subscribed because of your good work and of course the voice overs! Hey boi!! Gets me every time and the whine voice cracks me up. Thanks for all your great content
I like the voice overs, too. It's you and what makes your channel and content unique. Adds a comical element to actually show some useful information. Keep it up!
That star pattern actually is solid advice for any profession. Don’t usually want to tighten one side because it pulls inward and doesn’t allow you to properly tighten the other and the whole surface isn’t facing same torque
well we all learn diferantly. thats a good tip also in general assembly its good to start all the screws first take out the slack install them all then tighten gradual working around in a star . not everyone knows especialy young people that cantb even put a spare on a car so its good info
I have to say, at first I didnt like the voiceovers but after watching you for a while I realised, you dont have any annoying music running over your videos and you explain everything with good detail. Yea the voiceovers are mostly a joke but there are always people who actually say stuff like that. Keep it up bud! Great vids!
The star pattern will allow pressure to be evenly applied, so that you don't get one end sticking up in the air and/or caught on something. Depending on what you are working on, it can be basically impossible to get the other end down.
I’m a plumber to I hate doubling wax rings but I recently had to do a new toilet in my 1975 house and the toilet was never replaced so it was the original end up having to put a wax ring and the original wax ring came with a plastic cone so I had to add an extra wax ring on top of that one. I end up just using one wax ring and splitting it in half and using half on the bottom half on top and haven’t had a leak in four years
Just love how you do your videos maybe I should start Doing my own videos. But when I install new toilets regardless I put in a New valve, add supply line and Calk around the toilet.
Before I was a journeyman and then licensed, my first mechanic I worked under explained to me that I should never listen to somebody who thinks they know it all. I still live by that. You’re one of those people. I’m wondering. Is this your business?
Wax definitely sticks to wax. Well, a wax ring will stick to another wax ring as long as it’s new or clean but the biggest problem doubling is that the wax might push into the drain opening or even a piece break off and clog the drain. I haven’t seen that exact Oatey flange but I like it. I’ve seen people put so many wax rings that it pushed out from under the toilet base. More than needed isn’t always a good thing. If the flange height is correct, one wax ring is adequate
I've watched all of his content, and trust me, you wouldn't regret doing the same! He is an awesome plumber, always explains his content perfectly without over/underkill, and his videos are always point on! Worth the time!!;🎉🎉
A good air seal helps the syphon action. This is a funnel with a seal, functionally. The seal below is a resilient seal -- can handle some misalignment and shift over time and remain pucker.
The star pattern is really something that should be done on big pressure pipes and its usefulness is negligible on most small things because they seal just fine. Some are needing pattern tightening multiple times while increasing the torque wrench each time according to specs. It's easy to spend hours on one connection just from two flanges if the bolts are big and very numerous.
Love it! Does anyone still set the toilet base into a Plaster of Paris perimeter for uneven floor tile? That's how I learned 40 years ago, and still do it that way. Hate those plastic or cedar shims.
I am one who missed you, young man! If you purchase one of those small steell tape measures, it will fit nicely in your pocket and you will always have it when you need it. Your cleanliness is very impressive. and your hints are great. Keep those videos coming.. Perhaps you would slow it down just a little bit?
We quit using wax a few years back. The newer rubber rings are so much better. I do restoration work after fires and floods so sometimes a toilet will be removed and reset 2 or 3 times throughout the job.
Mechanic/machine industry for sure. The brain likes to operate in patterns, the simplest of which is linear, if you tighten bolts for a cylinder head or oil pan/valve cover, if you tighten metal to metal in a linear pattern, the metal stretches/pulls/warps in some small yet quantifiable amount where ultimately the linear excess will culminate in a ripple. It should be fair to say no and wants a ripple in their head, it weakens and stresses the material and can also create high / low points voiding seals. A star pattern ultimately draws/divides any excess play away from anyone specific point and distributes it across the piece. Dealing with something this malleable, you should be fine😅
Can confirm. As a mechanic I now tighten everything in an even pattern crossing sides on each bolt. Unless the manufacturer prescribes a specific torque pattern.
Looks like an ok solve but no silicone between existing flange and new set up. My concern is it’s below finished floor and if there’s a back up you may have a mess. Usually will cut and raise flange to flush with floor elevation or clean and silicone new flange riser.
“Hey Boy!” I love the voiceovers!
