Hi Glider Builder for over 35 years, the moment arm/tail of the fuse. is a little short, I make mine three/four times the width of the wing, from the trailing edge of the fuse,
then sit the elevator on, Better flying, less turbulence/drag from the wing. Have Build gliders and it works

You made that look easy 👍These micro versions of classic gliders are great. I've just finished my Micro Gentle Lady. Looking forward to how your Micro BoT turns out when finished. Looking like spring is arriving any day so you can take a walk round to that field near your home for a hi-start maiden 👍

That field is currently water logged, like yours was Carl. I need to give my full sizes BoT it’s maiden on a hi-start too.
At least it’s looking like I’ll be able to drive to my local slopes again when spring arrives. Fingers crossed eh.

I'd love to build a 50% GL. How did you downscale the build? I'm thinking in terms like rib thickness reductions, sheet thickness reductions, rib count, etc.
What proportion reduction did you use and what was the finished flying weight?
      Thanks in advance.

Might be a bit late, but you might try putting some water on the bite marks in the tail. It'll let the balsa swell back up, which should hopefully reduce the amount of work you need to do to fill in those holes.
Can't wait to see it fly!

    • @A470RCSoaring
      @A470RCSoaring  3 роки тому

Yes I did that & it did help a little, but the bite marks were quite deep. I filled with a tiny amount of light weight filler which won’t be noticed in the AUW.

@Eden Carlos i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

The BoT is coming along well. Shame the dog wanted to play with a stick.

Mine just arrived. I went with the motor option. Hopefully I will get to it before flying season gets here in the end of March .
How long do you think this would take to build as a first time build?
Bought some clear green and white from hobbyking to cover it.
    Stay safe 🍻🌲

That depends how long you have available to build. It took me about 12 hours to complete construction before covering and fitting controls.

    This is interesting.
I could build a model of my "full sized" Bird of Time I'm currently covering, same colors and all.
Now, if I can find a hi-start light enough to not fold the wings in half...
    Any ideas?

I guess you mean a hi start for the micro BoT. I’ve bought 16 ft of 1/8” elastic, meant for rubber powered models & will add 60-70ft of line to it. I’ve seen video of others using this hi start set up successfully. Hopefully, weather permitting I will be trying it out in the next week or two

Now, this is a perfect example of, "I should have thought of this myself."
Speaking of rubber power, have you seen the channel called, "Maxfliart?"

      Definitely worth a look.

It seems to me that hi starts should include the amount of pull in their specs.

Did you downscale material thicknesses (1/16" to 1/32", etc.) and rib counts? Just wondering how I might approach such a project.

This is a kit Joe, I didn’t do any designing of the model. I just built the kit as it arrived to me.

Nice job .I just down load plans from outer zone into PDF and scale them to what ever size i want and print out as a poster multiple sheets and stick them together then cut out of sheet balsa .That covering is good i tend to get from hobby king which ever one is the cheep at the time i have trance lime, yellow and purple at the mo .if you rough it up with a nylon kitchen scorer it takes spray paint very well for PSS. Just recovering and modifying a spitfire at the moment and i just converted a Bolt chuck glider to rc as well .I post picks on my twitter @RobertT77910249

@@A470RCSoaring i have a few places to get it from and i did have quite a stock in. i just get sheet and cut it if i want strip and i have a big sheet of1.2mm ply as well . another good trick is the long cocktail sticks they can be split in 2.EPP foam is non existent though .
