The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

.Saw her in concert on her final tour in Chicago. It was in the Auditorium Theatre and she filled that huge space with her voice. In the director's box were three other singers: Birgit Nilsson, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, and Dietrich Fischer Dieskau. They were all in Chicago for performances of their own but took the time to hear Farrell. Only a truly great singer could achieve that type of respect from her colleagues.
Does it get any better? Wow, many thanks for this upload. I wish more singers would listen to this lady sing. Something to be learned from doing so. Something great.
The backyard of her home on Staten Island was side by side with my grammar school's playground. She kept a low profile, but after about 5 years I finally spotted her out there doing her garden. Lucky me! lol
She was both a great operatic soprano and a great popular singer.
All the while, she was a New York housewife and mother, married to an NY cop, living in a regular house, doing her own shopping and errands. The total non-diva, but with talent oozing out of her.
What a colossal voice she had!
when you cry at the end you know it was good, i wish i was there, i was born but a bit to young (2), and somewhere in Europe (Belgium)
How did the Sullivan find a way to pay for all these orchestra players for posting this for free after all these years. What a great show that we dont dare repeat for fear of monetary failure...pretty sad!
Wow+++++++++++++
I did not know her yet, and I think I missed a lot!..what a plain and magnificent voice!..plus she does not "spit" the T and the D, and she does sing proper R (..not english) when she sings in italian!
A magnificent voice yet also tender and expressive when it needed to be.
Incredible voice!!
Such a beautiful song! This is from the 12th season premiere episode of the Sullivan show, which was an hour and a half long.
wow. just wow.
So beautiful and seemingly effortless.
phenomenal voice production
Her Christmas song, "Song of the Crib" has always been one of my favorites. She's a beautiful singer.
Thanks for posting. Ed Sullivan had amazing talent over the years. Love the oversized butterfly decorations too LOL And in a later episode Eileen and Louis Armstrong sang "S' Wonderful"
WOW!
Beautiful....
