Have to agree about the engraving on the 693. I thought it didn't look good, so got a 691 instead, even if the wood might not be as good. But then there is a lot of variance in wood quality there as well and my gunsmith, who I got it through, sent a number back to GMK before he accepted one with good grain (even if it is all a bit light in colour).
Just bought a 686 SP I Sporting because of this channel, thank you and howdy from Texas!
Hey Cc. Cheers mate I have been shooting skeet, sporting and occasionally trap with my SP1 for past 2-1/2 years and never had one hiccup with the gun. I reload and can also shoot 3/4 oz loads out of my 12 bore as well. This gun will serve you well for many years to come regardless how much you shoot it. I have thought of upgrading but I can't bring myself to doing it as the pigeon fits me so darn well, also follow John here greart double gun content. Enjoy!

I have a 687 III trap from Joel Etchen signature. The nicer wood makes a huge difference to me. My gun is stunning

I own a 2006 model 687 SP ii sporting model in 30” barrel. I’m really considering upgrading to the newer 693 or 690iii field model with 28” barrel since I enjoy hunting more than clay shooting. Will I loose anything in terms of a quality or durability?

Johnny I'll buy that older 687 in a heart beat I love the grade 3 wood the 697 is slender and I don't care for slender much.

Love the videos, and they are getting better and better, ( a pointer with a point). Still some way to go, in that the camera could be looking at what you are talking about, ( eg, you were talking about the engraving and the grass being sharp on one and just checkering on the other, but the camera wasn't showing either clearly at the time) That said entertaining , and informative, so please take this or my other comments on other videos as wishing to help and improve. Please keep up the good work!
Please can you review the Beretta 686E (not to be confused with the 686E Evo which has Extended chokes) as there are no reviews of it. Or do a comparison between 686E and 686E Evo. Many thanks
Last time you did the 687 I thought the game scene was so similar to my 690III, confirmed it would seem with the 687 being slightly better.
The wood on the 693 shown is superb.
Given I have both a 680 and a 690 series, the 690 feels nicer in the hand having a slight palm swell which the 680 does not.
Either way, berettas are guns you can own for a lifetime, well made value for the money, and pretty easy to repair.

I know that they make solid, durable guns, but to put monoblock barrels even on very "high grade" examples is disappointing to me. Personally, before I look at the engraving details, I examine the wood-metal fit. I think the wood should appear to flow seamlessly into the receiver and forend iron. Clearly that is not the case here.
Aesthetics aside do you feel there is much difference beside the new 687 and one of the older versions?

Been trying to find a 694 to get hold of to see if the changes are good for me. Suffice to say no one can get one or hold on to one for more than 5 minutes.

Two years since this video was made. The 693 didn’t sell well as it’s no longer in production as of August 2023. The black highlights on the receiver of the 693 looks hideous.

@@tgsoutdoors Ok thanks, I must have missed that. Can you give any insight on any 687s with upgraded wood coming out? The ones in the US shops all have wood far below grade 2.5 its a sham. My 870 with a synthetic stock has more character then half the ones I've seen.
