I'm 33 come November. My grandfather was my best friend. Growing up, he passed away when I was young. Now I am a full-time caregiver to grandma. I am happy and blessed. But i miss everyday my grandfather
One of my favorite country songs of all-time. High Cost of Living is an absolute classic as well. He's a tremendous songwriter who unfortunately is suffering from effects of a TBI and hasn't been able to write much at all the last several years but still actively tours.
Just went to his concert and his voice is spot on and has some new songs! If you get the chance, don’t pass it up…. Go see and let Jamie preach to you.
This is literally the story of my grandfather's life. He grew up poor on a farm in Tennessee during the Great Depression. He met my Grandmother just before WWII while they both were serving in the Marine Corps. Yes my Grandmother was a Marine back then. My Grandfather fought behind enemy lines and earned the Silver Star. They were married for over 50 years and he loved her until the day he died.
Beautiful story of your grandparents I love to hear the old stories my route my father in 1943 was in World War II and he was shot in the stomach, but his buddy behind him shot the German . so this song always reminding my dad
I truly believe that this is one of those very special songs - especially when you see it with the video - that transcends music genres. One doesn't have to be a country fan to appreciate this song. And I'm really glad that you guys decided to check it out. I love your channel, and I wish you two all the best!
I’d never thought of the word proud used in the connotation that he used it, it was like an intense, immediate, visceral gut punch hearing it used in that manner. Beautiful.
First time hearing!! Will not be the last!! Great story told in song. That generation was the greatest generation, in my opinion!!! Excellent job, fellas !!!
When I was little any time I was at my mamaws house, I'd pull out all of the photo albums. I did that for years. What I didn't realize until I was older was the amount of joy it brought my mamaw and papaw when I asked questions about the pictures. I could see them going back to the memory. It initiated conversation. My mamaw would ask, "Honey do you remember....?" And then papaw would be off with the stories. Awesome song!
My favorite memories are sitting with my grandparents and going through old photo albums and learning my family's history. With today's digital world, it saddens me that many young people will never get to experience that.
Excellent reaction! Jamey's lyrics are like hitting the main vein. Takes your breath away. And so deep! Have a great weekend, Bros. This was a banger 💥✌🏼
That is my granddad’s story. He grew up a sharecropper in East Texas. He served in WWII, and he married my grandmother and loved her till the day he died.
Oh My….So Excited!! Y’all are hearing one of Nashville’s best Songwriters! Jamey’s semi-autobiographical song “High Cost of Living” is a Must-Powerful song. Thank you for a Country listen.
I love this song as I feel I am that grandson. I don't remember grandma or grandpa ever talking about it but I am sure they lived through the depression and my grandfather was stationed in the Philippines during WW2. My grandparents had a picture on the fireplace mantle with grandpa is his military suit and grandma in a dress from their wedding that looks almost Identical to the one in the video.
LOVE Jamey Johnson and this song! He can tell a story like no one else and the tone of his voice just grabs you! You should check out his song “I Remember You” ❤
May I suggest , Take Me Home❤, thanks for a fantastic reaction. Love that you enjoyed this beautiful song. Thank you for sharing this video❤ God Bless🌹
Since you've opened that magical Country Music box and can appreciate a well written song/story, I'd love to suggest listening to (Hardy Wait In The Truck) feat: Lainey Wilson Incredible song
How you listen to that and not want to cry? That's literally my families, and many of our family's stories. Doesn't matter if you are black, white, or brown or listen to country or not, that song is the story of our ancestors lives. The American experience.
Jamey is a great singer-songwriter. When George Strait recorded his song "Give It Away", a lot of people learned who he was for the first time. I like "Between Jennings and Jones". So danged clever - and pretty accurate. : )
I’ve never seen anyone else get this, but in the first 2 verses he’s describing the hardships of his life telling you he was scared, the 3rd verse he starts actually describing the colors in the photo bc he’s emphasizing how proud he is of that moment. Really wishing they could have been there and seen it.
My daughter some years ago took me out for a drive. She played this song and we were both crying our ass off. Her hurt was real! Her best friend, he died from a stabbing helping his friend at a bar in Florence, Kentucky. They use to have life talks laying in the grass late at night. I can’t hardly listen to this song without hurting for my daughter. I’m crying now! Great review. 😢
First video I’ve seen of yours here because I saw it was Jamey👍 Since you’re a WW2 “fan” he’s talking about his tail gunner- I don’t know if Jamey had family in the Air Corps but survival rates of bomber crews - completing the “required” number of missions intact- 25%. Jamey’s one of THE best writers I highly recommend my favorite of his “That Lonesome Song”
Thanks for reacting to Jamey Johnson! What a fantastic singer/songwriter! You would love all his albums! All bangers! The Chair was made popular by George Strait.
My dad, my Father-in-Law and my son, all served in the military. This song expresses the emotion and realization of their lives when they came home. I don't know where Jamey got his passion from, but he did GOOD.
I used to ask my x father in law about WW2, Korea and Vietnam. He lived it all. I was mezmorized...Okinawa in 1945 then Korea and Vietnam. Marines for 30 years. THAT was a life
That country music is no joke real life music. ❤
Shit…I’m 71 years old and now I miss my grandparents… damn it!
Me too, I'm about to turn 58 years old and I miss my Grandparents immensely.
64 and the same

Country Music is often called... "Three chords, and the truth." Such amazing storytelling.
I've heard that said by B.B.King about the blue.

Both of my grandparents grew up in TN during the Great Depression. I remember the government food subsidies showing up in the 60’s when I was a child.
I think this song was a tribute to The Greatest Generation.
As a pappa myself to two incredible grandson's, mimi and I are glad we saw it in color together!..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 👋🤠
This song was awarded the song of the year it came out! Unbelievable lyrics!
I liked this song when it came out, after my pop pop passed away I love this song even though it brings me to tears every single time.

Awesome song writer, he's got a bunch of them, he's another one that gave the opry the finger and went Outlaw Country.
I'm so happy to see Jamey Johnson on the channel ❤ I keep requesting this song to other reactors and... nothing! Well it's their loss😮
My favorite memories are sitting with my grandparents and going through old photo albums and learning my family's history. With today's digital world, it saddens me that many young people will never get to experience that.
You know the song is great when you would listen to it with just a guitar & vocal. 💜💜💜
I’ve met the man that wrote this song and the story behind it is just amazing!! ❤
Damn…I’m colorblind. I wish I could see it in color. Many wish for riches- I dream of seeing the fall colors…
That is a mans voice for sure. What a powerful song. I love it. ❤❤❤❤

Love this song! Love his voice! Great reaction!
This song always gives me chills. I love this song.
Well that made me tear up. Glad I listened to it. The lyrics were hard, somehow made me think of Motorhead's ballad 1916, so hard, so simple, direct.
