Congratulations on purchasing an adorable NYC apartment. It is awesome and so are you. 😊. I think that you would enjoy your kitchen much more if you declutterred it a bit. Sometimes removing “eye clutter” can give you new perspective and even de-stress you. Example, remove all the stuff (magnets? Photos?) off your refrigerator. Store away 50% of what is on your counter tops. Maybe move some of the plants into your living room or bedroom. It would make that space more airy and open.

I am a home organization person the first place to start is to declutter. Just do 30 minutes at a time. Maybe do your clothes first, then makeup, then the books, sometimes we hold onto items because we forget we have them. I love your apartment and the ideas you have for it. When you showed the Hudson I had a friend that lived in one of those brick buildings, I lived in Riverdale ❤❤❤
I would make the jungle wall, just a solid orange to match the oranges in the kitchen wall paper. So awesome to have a peek into your life and apartment. Thank you. Oh, I have Masterpiece game, and loved it too.

Definitely knock down the wall between the kitchen and living room! But keep the bottom half so that your kitchen becomes U-shaped and you don’t lose bottom cabinets or appliances (I forget if it is the sink or stove on that side).
well I loved it!!! its how real ppl live plus its organised nicely, it looks clean and not messy! I can totally understand the finally of "in the future I will ....."but if you want an advice work a little bit of your space to love it more until the renovation come.. you still live there and you need to love every corner! do some diclutter in the kitchen and was a good idea to remove the cabinets of the other wall to feel more spacious ! you can put them at the corner where you have the open storage or build a vertical cabinet to use ! sounds good to open a frame to living room but you said you cook and as a person that I cook everyday I would prefer the kitchen apart because smells stay in curtains and pillows... its a lovely apartment! well done!

For your shoes. On that wall behind the table. Put cheap shelves along it. It looks like u can fit 3-4. Add curtains panels on each unit. And put the table back in front of it. It will stick out about 10 inches, not too bad.

I’ve found that clear storage containers help organize all of the everyday stuff, but my family can see all of it. We measured our space and found clear storage containers. We worked on it one section at a time so that it was not overly anxiety producing or time consuming. It’s been really helpful.
In that entry way that you don't like....get the Brightroom Cube Storage. It will look more pulled together, streamlined but provide a ton of storage. I don't know the size you have, but if you can do a 9 square and a 6 Square next to each other and then maybe another on top, you'd be perfect.
Your apartment is bigger than I expected for NYC. For the entryway, you could get one of those console tables that expands to a table. Some even include folding chairs. Then you would have table space and chairs when you entertain. Expand Furniture has several, but there are others.
Katharine, I love to cook also. My own kitchen and your kitchen are about the same size, even though I am in Texas. Perhaps it is because the shelves behind you , while you are cooking, make you make you feel too crowded. So, I suggest you install shelves between your window and the wall to your right. If they are white, they will coordinate with your cabinets. Hang them as low and as high as you are comfortable. Individual shelves...instead of a shelving unit...can be spaced with specific items in mind, to make the best use of the space.This would both eliminate the brown shelves and the chrome shelving unit. Then, the area where the brown shelves now are could be used to hang things that don't take up so much horizontal space. In my own kitchen, I have most of my pans and cooking tools hanging on the wall. If you don't think they are presentable, Bon Amy will get rid of food stains and make you pans shine. It also helps if the things that are on display are color-coordinated in some way.

Such a cute apartment!! Since you asked for advice... As for your entryway... your habits are definitely telling you that that is not an eating zone. I'd go with low level open shelving for shoes, coats, bags, incoming packages etc. That's your drop zone. You could add a folding table to that shelving unit so you can pop it out in case you have guests over, but something you can fold down when you need the space. The kitchen I'd leave like that, don't open up walls because you need the storage. Put large equipment like blenders, kitchenaid etc in a closet so your shelves in the kitchen get more breathing room. And CULL. You'd be surprised how much stuff you can give to charity instead of letting it take over your house.
