Berserk is not about suffering- it's about surviving that suffering. If you keep pushing through and fighting off the darkness that lurks-you will come out the other end a changed person (for the better). I have thought about embracing the title of "struggler" myself. It is more in touch with reality than "fighter"- it's not about winning, it's about not going down easy.
No one in Berserk comes out "for the better" they all come out brutally traumatized and virtually all of them assuage their massive existential insecurities through violence. It's about trauma, and trauma doesn't make you stronger for surviving it, it just means you survived, it has nothing to do with augmenting strength as if though life is a videogame.

One of the takes was one where an individual resigns themselves in the midst of challenge since there is ultimately no point in fighting a world that doesn't care vs the heroes of Greek myth who continued on no matter the odds (struggler imo). No doubt there is a lot of trauma- and we see Casca basically traumatized to the point of being becoming a shell of her former self. I believe that philosophical takes on hardship and existentialism do have some influence on how we go about life and hardship. That is obviously not a full picture since we know that modern psychology and studies on trauma lets us know that emotional traumas literally have a physical effect of the brain. In any case, I enjoy seeing characters with supernatural abilities to defy the odds and it's totally an exaggerated persona considering that everyone dies a violent death- but I guess thats part of what makes Guts an interesting character.
There was a quote of Guts saying that killing is random and has no purpose. We have something to gain so we try for the sake of our own dream. Guts recalls Gaston being reckless in battle because all in his mind is to be promoted and marry a woman. Guts thinks everyone trying this is doing it so for a lost cause, because of their dream. Don't forget that Guts is a mercenary trying to earn for a living. There's no purpose in suffering, no purpose in killing, nothing, except your will to overcome it.
