  • First video with the 240sx in a long time! And it felt great. Getting this car ready for the spring drift season and doing these mods were basically the last few things I needed to do.

    I checked out the pdf provided from GlowShift. Something that stuck out was this sentence that they have in bold:
    "Install the sensor before installing the vehicle thermostat.
    The gauge will not display a reading until the vehicle thermostat
    has been opened"
    I think what they are meaning is that you can verify the gauge working right away if you remove the thermostat, otherwise you're going to need to wait until the thermostat opens to get any reading. You could try warming it up again and then go squeeze the hose it's tee'd into and see if its warm to the touch. If it is and the gauge has nothing then something else must be wrong.
    The next thing I would try is to temporarily wire the ground straight to the battery ground to see if you get a different result. That would determine if it was a grounding issue.
    The other thing that I noticed is that GlowShift specs 18-20 GA wire, that's the same gauge as thermostat wire so having a thicker wire for the signal may also cause issues.
    Hope this helps, love your videos!

    This is a little late, but the reason you're a previous water temp gauges were not working is because the sensor needs to ground to your block. On my supra, the thermostat housing(metal) is attached to the block(also metal), so where the sensor screws in, it is naturally grounded. From the video it looks like the coolant sensor adapter is completely isolated from the block (rubber coolant hoses on both sides). I love the content, and I'm glad to see more frequent uploads!

    • @noahhenry2370
      @noahhenry2370 2 роки тому

      Also, try not to rely too much off of the stock gauge and what it says. My Supra said it was overheating all the time, until I replaced the stock sensor, and cleaned up the factory wiring. After that it never said I was overheating again.
      If you have a small 12 volt battery kicking around, I would recommend boiling a pot of water, and trying out different wiring configurations until you get the guage to work. Assuming your thermostat works properly, I would keep idling your car until you see the glow shift gauge move. Hope this helps!

    Edit: forget the body, focus on the motor reliability, adjustable suspension, and brakes. Reliability is number 1 and I can't remember even back in Robbies videos you ever doing a final engine configuration video after the swap. Is it daily reliable?
    Edit edit: that old gauge looks like a sender not a sensor......made for ecu signal not a gauge. Glad you got a new one.....not far enough to see if it works yet lol.

    That sensor you mounted in on a hose to the radiator. If the thermostat is not opening the water won't go through the radiator so that sensor won't see nothing. But the stock sensor is probably somewhere on the head so it sees the temp in the block. Those aftermarket sensors ar good only after the thermostat opens and you get water through the radiator, so basically they only operate in the range of 80°c + to show you if your car is overheating from a too small radiator, fan not coming on or blown head gasket. You probably have a stuck thermostat and that sensor won't see it.
    And yeah, this type of sensor is the shit, the one with only one wire I think is supposed to be mounted on metal, like a sandwich plate for oil so it grounds through the engine, but for water you have it suspended by ruber hoses
    Hopefully you figure it out

  • @rodneckbuilds
    @rodneckbuilds 2 роки тому +1

    Lol, you know the sensor adapter you use got a hole in it to put an earth strap on 🤣 thats why the gauge was not working all that time not the gauge fault more an installeer error.

      @@BradBeauvais the screw part of the sensor that you screw in the adapter Block is the sensor ground, if you use teflon that could also make the gauge to not work properly. I always use liquid sealant for that type of sensor so there is good ground. Not bashing on you,just pointing out the mistake. Never to old to learn something new :D
