These caves are from a mining operation in the area, but they're still pretty cool!
Wow I just looked that up and you're right! Thanks for the info!
@@MobileInstinct it looks like the limestone mines they have in Europe
There's also a few in the United States I think one in Missouri or Kansas that was converted into office space and is used by the movie industry to store their film in climate controlled vaults and government agencies use it for secure storage of things like IRS records
It is a very dry environment because the water table is so low
The nuclear storage in Yakima mountain is also another example where they did this type of mining and use the mine for a new purpose
I think in the coming decades in places where the water table is low year-round that digging down 10 stories into the ground and building housing and office space underground will be the norm because we've run out of space above ground
I've had a dream of building a seven-story building on a hill where three stories would be above ground at the highest point and there would be four stories below ground with the one side on the lowest point of the Hill exposed with Windows on that side so I would have a lot of living space but the footprint of the building would be no bigger than a normal house and you wouldn't see the true scale unless you were on the side where the drop off is that nobody would see because of the terrain and that way not have an eyesore for The neighbors
I imagined building a level at the second level that would be the garage and below that would be mechanical and electrical
I imagined using the poured concrete forms just like are used to build government buildings and parking structures
Oh man did you have to ruin the magical atmosphere 😑
Please my friend, in the future, check your use of words like "weird" to describe "pipes" used for mining infrastructure unless you want to reveal yourself as knowing very little about where you are. Jus sayin'.
@@archstanton_live he's fun, so he doesn't have to be knowledgeable
This is where they mined Kanab "Wonderstone". The original owners kept it a secret for decades and no one but the family knew where it was. The sandstone looked like ocean waves or landscape pictures. They would have pieces from the size of marbles up to giant massive smooth slabs.I have dozens of pieces including 2 clocks, picture frames, round spheres sanded smooth, fridge magnets, bags of raw pieces, and many pieces I've wire wrapped into pendants. The last time I drove thru Kanab was in Oct of 2013 and the family had sold the mine, but the store was still open for business. It's an absolutely stunning type of sandstone!
That reminds me of a guy I encountered running a gas station in Georgetown, CO. He had some very sturdy shelves around the store with limestone slabs onto which he'd painted prehistoric/Ice Age fauna. Said the tourists bought them to take home. Actually, it was a clever gimmick and they looked quite good. Stay safe.
beautiful, I'm from the UK and never and never getting out your way, you have a beautiful country with so much to see, thankyou for showing and sharing with us
Amazing scenery! I appreciate that you tend to avoid the busy touristy areas and explore the more remote locales. The abandoned and forgotten roads less travelled make for the most interesting explorations. It's always a pleasure to tag along with you. Thanks and keep it coming!
A few minutes into this, seeing the beautiful scenery, an old song from my childhood in the '40s, "Don't Fence Me In," popped into my mind. Like most boy-kids in those days, I was Cowboy Crazy, my passion fed by the weekly trips to a nearby Big City that had three movie theaters, one of which showed a new(ish) Western every Friday through Sunday. Our heros were Roy rogers, Gene Autry, Johnny Mack Brown, "Wild" Bill Elliott... And then there was scenery like this---except in black and white. Stay safe, everyone.
Old cars were often used for flood and erosion control in ditches. Common out west on Route 66. Great job again Chris
I lived here in Utah my whole life 43 years and I'll tell you what that right there is really beautiful when the sun sets...
My ancestors on my dad's side are from Kanab. Such beautiful land in Southern Utah. Watch out for snakes!
You should geocache when you’re at these locations! I love geocaching
They would throw old cars in the ravines to slow the erosion during the flash floods happening during the monsoon season. You will find it in alot of rural areas in Utah
Does that actually work? They could plant sand dune retention grass instead and actually restore the landscape instead of turning it into an open auto landfill.
The cars in that ravine were probably not the result of accidents, I believe they were intended to stop further erosion.
What an amazing place to visit, I love the colours that are created when the sun shines onto the sandstone. Thanks for sharing, much love. xx💖
Flash floods brought the cars there
I grew up in Utah. Moved when I was 26. Haven't really been back in close to 10 years, but before reading anything in the description, I knew right away that you were in Utah! I could almost smell the fresh desert air while watching this. It made me a bit home sick. Great video!
This officially is the best station on UA-cam, I see that statement daily but this is it. Ghost town living with Brent at Cerro Gordo could be tied.......
Beautiful caves. Utah sure has some beautiful areas to visit.
"Brady Bunch army" LOL...Always a pleasure to watch brother!
I heard that too and laughed. Lol
That "Executive" Car is a Pontiac. The front seat looks to be in better shape that most of it's siblings who spent their lives on their tires.
Utah is awesome, scenery wise.
that was the baddest cave in the tribe, for sure. man, id love to live there right now. just beautiful
This place is absolutely beautiful ! Thanks for taking us along- great walkabout...
Such a beautiful place .Thank you.👍💖🇺🇸
I like that you avoid the crowed places
Judging by the headrests in the Pontiac Executive it would be about a 1969 or 70 model as I think that was the last year for the Executive.
Those “weird little holes” are probably old holes drilled out to take dynamite and blast out the rock , clear it and drill more holes , blast , clear , drill ...and so on.
That was my first thought. Much easier there than when Charlie Crocker's Chinese workers cut tunnels through the granite of the Sierras for the Central Pacific RR , back in the 1860s. They were lucky to make a foot a day, using black powder, the later, nitroglycerin they made nearby. That end of the Transcontinental Railroad owes a lot to the Chinese. That sandstone must cut like "buttah." Stay safe.
That was awesome. The old cars made me think of Manson and family, they would steal cars and strip them of parts and leave them abandoned, some are still there where they lived. Thanks for the adventure!!!
Beautiful place. Thanks for sharing. Those holes at the back of the cave were blast holes. It reminds me a little of the site of the 'M' cave.
Best wishes, Paul in Lower Boddington UK
I love finding old mining operations and mines. We find quite a lot of them her in north Georgia. Thanks for sharing.
Have you had a physical lately? It seems like, ever since you were sick a while back, that you haven't bounced back fully. I'm just a concerned mother & grandmother. Great videos! I always love it when I see one of your new video notifications.
I would love to walk there, but I live in Britain, and there's a lot of reasons I can't go, ie covid 19,money, dogs, but thank you for letting be a arm chair traveler!!!! 🐕🐕🐕🐕
You always do the best videos man :)
Thanks for posting!
I think we can hear your heartbeat in the beginning! You need a Camelback water pack. It's awesome to see all of the places you show us! Thanx again.
Beautiful again. Thank you. Safe travels.
Another beautiful place. Thank you so much. I love it
Look at all the natural designs, Awesome
I was supposed to visit Utah earlier in the year.. I’ve wanted to go there for a long time. Beautiful.. Cool video
Those caves are amazing. The views are awesome
Thank you
Beautiful...
Think of thousands of years ago, ancestors using those caves💕
Theres info on the mines. Tells you how they were made and why and who, not as old as the look
@@vopenacattleco I was wondering...esp since the dates ppl carved were only from the 80's. How interesting, will check out the info. Thanks!😊
Hi, Chris, that is some beautiful scenery in suothern Utah. In a way it looks like Arizona. I saw a lot of similar cliff dwellings and other beautiful rock formations in the National Parks, which were not very crowded in January (2018), when I was there. God Bless and stay safe.
nice interior on that pontiac -no tears or fading
9:02 There is a cave-like that in Calico MIne in San Bernardino Ca.
Beautiful!❤️
The caves were so interesting, and the colors of the land were so vivid. The caves were mines, but they were still something to see, cause the traffic was getting heavy there. Good job, see you later.
Wow! That second cave you went in almost looks manmade. Very cool find!
it is... wind doesnt work like that
@@philtripe right, actuall i kinda thought it might have been made by water from centrys ago
Absolutely awesome scenery. To me those seem more like they would have been man-made or at least excavated by water runoff period hard to imagine wind by itself could do that
Beautiful!
Now that is freaking cool! 😎
Thanks for taking us along. 👍👍
These are mining operations in sandstone. More than likely looking for Silver. Another place you might want to explore that is an old silver ghost town would be Silver reef Utah were they also mind silver is sandstone pretty cool place.
Such a beautiful place. Thank you! Have safe travels!
Thanks Jen
You should go to thistle utah it's a town that got flooded in the 1980s and its a good place to make a video
Another great find! You can almost imagine turning those caves into an amazing AirBnB with awesome views 😁
Beautiful place
There's a awesome old sand mine out here in sodak
Glad the skinwalkers didn't get you. Lol
Plot twist he is the skin walker
Yo homie!
@@theSwedessayshello whats up my man?
Some of the cars could be from Flash Floods at some point.
Looks like Rudolph's family cave... Lol (hey, it's almost the season)
Wow, amazing, spectacular! Thanks for a great video.
Loved the tour. Thanks!
Gotta be careful about slickrock. It's easier to climb up (because you can lean into the rock), but sometimes very difficult to get back down.
And if you want a *lot* of dust in your camera, go down to Monument Valley. (I would suggest you keep the camera in a paper bag (static electricity on plastic will attract the dust) until you want to shoot something...)
LOL! The Brady bunch
Gosh I would never be home if I lived there, you could get some great drone shots to, tn for the share amazing place.
The remains below the mine was likely an "ore chute" for getting whatever they were mining down to a bunker.
That was awsome love that place. Hope to get there 1 day.
Enjoy your videos, very interesting and informative. Keep them coming, I’ll watch them young man.
Reminds me of a video I just watch, that showed an underground facility (in use today) that had the same type of pillars, rooms ect. This was build, not wind made--hello--maybe it could have been a huge giant at once?? Thanks & safe travels.
LOL The Brady Bunch! Also, those caves are very cool!!
Speaking of the Brady Bunch, running through the caves; all I can think of is one falling off a drop
The last cave reminds me of one of your old video "illusion in the window Jane Mine."
Yes you're right! I need to get back there one day.
Cool and cozy. Love it!!!...😍
HAHA Brady bunch, screaming kids... and you were spot on.
That first shallow cave is a ''Shelter Cave'' . Notice the soot embedded in the Sandstone from all of the campfires . That Shelter Cave has been in use for Thousands of Years .
This is beautiful Chris. The cars fascinate me as well. 😁
Wow so cool
Even up there, I wondered.
Enjoy the caves and your dreams of how and likes of vantages of scenes. Thank You.
It’s AWESOME!
Those are some cool caves
Great location. Thanks for the upload. Needed this little pick me up.
Going off trail can lead one to unbelievable places. Can I ask what precautions you take? Extra water, maps, gps, or extra food. I am doing a 2 day hike on the AT for the first time, and a little nervous. Any advise would be appreciated. Are you ever nervous or scared?
You can see the vein of something that I bet they were mining.
55 degrees year round
With space becoming rare now due to overpopulation, going underground is the way to go.
A lot of people in NV, Las Vegas, they have been building underground since the 40s.
These are so cool.
An amazing place🐻🤗👍
Very cool. I’ll add to my list of things to explore this summer. I just love visiting the off beaten path history areas.
Some interesting areas since you are/were in Utah
Swaseys Cabin it’s west of Moab
Rock house just outside of Moab around the Dewey Bridge area
Is it just me ? I could hear his heart beating 1:30
That was awesome. Thanks!
That is so cool!! Looks like a good place to pitch a tent! Nice view.
Wonder how close the brats can go to the edge? OOPS! down she goes!!
That is Funny! The Brady Bunch.
Great video, as always!
1:41 Looks like the shadow of a sitting person to your left.
the one car on its top is a 69 pontiac executive which was the mid package on there full size. the other looked to be a 64 or 65 skylark but i couldnt get a good look. if i was close id haul those home.
Better get on with it cause the Griswolds just showed up???
Those are man made caves. Looks like a limestone mine
Sandstone. Limestone is almost white.
@@royrice8597 thank you
I knew it, I just couldn't remember sandstone
Interesting place.
OMG you found Thelma & Louise's car !
Amazing.
I don't think that dude knows these are old mines. 😂
GOOD STUFF! THANKS
Very cool
The cars are not there because of flash floods they are put into place to slow down erosion. It was a cheap way back before the epa
I think that whole location been an ocean before.. as weird as it sounds!
Beautiful place. One could take a sleeping bag. As long as you don't sleepwalk.
Utah is so beautiful 😍, I hope you could visit Saudi Arabia the northern region 🇸🇦 🌴has similar terrain but the writings are prehistoric 🤓
