You made the exact correct call steering away from the questionable path! Second guessing a clear alarm signal and staying the course without verifying is foolish ! Been in my share of close calls but always have been saved by making the prudent safety first call. Now that’s a epic dingy adventure!
For real! Better to take the safe route than end up in a sketchy situation. Glad we’re on the same page! And yeah, that dinghy adventure was one for the books!
I lived in California for 20 years and loved steelhead and salmon fishing on the coast. The winter rains would open the river’s mouth and wash all kinds of debris into the ocean, including large tree logs - if it rains had enough. The beauty of the river flowing again to sea after a dry summer also allowed the steelhead and salmon to swim upstream to spawn. I don’t know if tree logs are that far south though.
Your new camera lens is super clear. Great video. Will Parker be starting Seawind back up anytime soon? Started watching both your channels at the same time.
You are not the first to hit/nearly hit shallow ground without seeing it on navionics until zooming right in afterwards. A close call not to be repeated!
Always keep the dinghy tank full. it balances the boat and in an emergency you don't have time to faff about filling it. Don't lock the engine down unless you need to. That way if you do kiss the bottom it will generally just kick up without damage. About that sea mount, if they are volcanic they are not fixed, they can grow. I think the drill is to get the lat and long and report it to the Admiralty so the charts get updated.
I have currently notified Admiral Lord Nelsons Office including the Royal Naval Observatory and Lord Nelson has personally confirmed to me, that Captain James Cook's Charts for the region will be undated post haste.
Great tips! Keeping the dinghy tank full is definitely a smart move for safety and balance. Thanks for sharing your insights! We'll send an email off to them!
Most small outboards have a lock pin that allows a partial tilt for shallow water navigation to protect your prop and helps protect from ingesting sand into the water pump. This only allows for slow speed navigation but it’s safer crossing shallow water. Enjoy your channel and safe travels !
when we went camping. each day we would fill up our tanks to make sure we didn't run out of fuel. maybe that would be the better choice. glad you made it home again.
Such an enjoyable episode - thank you both! Great to see Zach's sheer joy and excitement for the mangroves - stunning place and a great explore for you all. "Roger, the dodger" (gotta have a name, hasn't it?), is looking superb and like it's always been part of Teulu, you both did such a great job with it. Have a great week and looking forward to the next epic "bloody do-in it" episode.
I look at so much stuff on you tube and don’t get to keep up with all my subscriptions then I come back and think wow they have grown up a bit who’s that new bloke with a moustache 🥸 wow how much have I missed the good thing is I can have a good binge watch to catch up. I remember watching you from the beginning I don’t think Iv ever got over the raw emotions when you was waiting to find out if you was going to get this boat I’ll never forget that day for you two ❤️
Great episode. I was left wondering if that was a submersible object you nearly ran into? Don't you have to repair the damage to the hull to prevent seawater from seeping into the fibreglass?
Great video guys! Just so you are aware incase you ever need to. You can run a 4 stroke on 2 stroke oil mix... It will smoke a little and if done for long periods will foul the plug but in the event you need to, you can do ☺️
Tenacatita is a cool spot for sure. Don't know if anyone has mentioned it but it's said that some scenes from the old show Mchale's Navy were filmed there at the restaurants location.
100% I would have immediately steered away before waking up Zac, etc. Try to also replace with forward looking transducer, like your friend. My Garin one though went wrong but luckily was replaced under warranty. Would never go back to a lesser type now.
Fantastic video. Cinematography was fantastic. I don’t know how you guys do it but the editing and slicing together the drown and the camera shots from the ground were great. Really enjoyed it. Thank you so much from Liz in California🤟🏻🥰😎❤️🐬⛵️🇺🇸
You did the right thing; steer away, ALWAYS. Mexico has been remarkably trouble-free for you, from what you have shown us. IMHO - move on before something happens that would sully your memories of the place.
I spend several months each year in Mexico and have for the last 20 years. Only in the biggest cities have I had a problem. You can feel it when a place has positive vibes or not. If you chose unwisely, the locals will let you know. I simply stay away from the USA/Mexico border and get to know then Rancheros further south. The further south the better. They are wonderful people
Hi guys, I absolutely love the way you live your life. This is the dream of many, it is mine. Why dont you set your depth alarm to 20-30 mtr on a stretch like this? This buys valuable time. In a situation like this, you did right but making a 90 degree turn and sail away from danger in a straight angle Cheers to the both of you. Ivo
I know that I do not comment enough but this is my most anticipated show every Monday. Glad to see you made it through your hopefully minor collision. Be safe and keep having fun.
Had this happen to me once on a monohull in Antigua. In 200 feet, the depth sounder alarm went off. Thought there was a problem with the equipment until a humpback whale came up from under the boat and splashed his tail fluke 50 feet ahead of us.
Very nice episode, great for you to be sailing and searching for different adventures after the time in the marina. Thank you for your nicely done videos.
For me bad route planning should never have happened really glad your both ok it could have been lot worse lesson learned carry on love watching your program i also done lot of saling all around europe
Thanks for your insight! Route planning is definitely a crucial part of sailing, and we're grateful for the lessons learned. It's great to hear you've had your own adventures around Europe too!

10 outta 10 on the Zach meter. A wonderful looking place and friends to share it with. I know you said you go north in the next video, but did you loiter at this place for a while? Pretty big smiles all around in this one. Stay safe. ❤🙏
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! We truly appreciate your support and are glad you enjoyed the video. The smiles were genuine, and it was a fantastic place to explore with friends!
So nice to see you both enjoying your selves, and not stressing the shit you couldnt change! Looked like so much fun! Ive not been down the Pacific side of Mexico and it looks lovely! Adding to my shortlist of bucket list to do! Is parker still buddy boating w you? What is his channels name? I used to follow him but can't remember channel name. Id like to throw his channel some love.
We're so glad you enjoyed the video! The Pacific side of Mexico is truly beautiful, and there’s nothing quite like life on the water. Parker is still buddy boating with us-his channel is called Sailing Seawind.
This is what all the hard labour was all meant for. Very nice, entertaining. Good use of good music ;). Some of the video takes were a bit shaky. Not a problem, but with what gear you've got maybe not necessary.
We appreciate your feedback! We're glad you enjoyed the video and the music. We’re always working to improve our filming techniques, so thanks for the heads up!
The Team Vestas IMOCA 60 was badly damaged in the 2014 Volvo Ocean Race when she hit a reef in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The "professional" navigator neglected to check their course for shallows at a suitable scale (by zooming in). Always be mindful of scale when using electronic or paper maps.
That's a great reminder! Navigating can be tricky, and it's essential to pay attention to detail, especially in open waters. Thank you for sharing your insights!
Would you mind giving the name of the marina? Trying to locate along with you. edit: Found you. La Manzanilla. What a cool adventure! The mangrove is so nice, you could be the first English explorers .
Great question! We decided to switch things up and go with a different setup for the dinghy. We wanted something that could tow the boat incase something ever happened to our main engine.
Hey guys! Past patreon, and help with your ($)water maker back last year. Been watching your videos loving the voyage. Getting into my own vessel hopeful this year. Was a supporter of Parker going back for two years, he fell off the YT face of the earth, hope he is well and is moving on….I have seen him many of your videos. Loved his DIY videos, last said he was going to put up OG from his first boat back in Pa. -Jim F
We truly appreciate your support on Patreon, Jim! It means a lot to us, and we’re glad to hear you’re enjoying our videos. Best of luck with your own vessel! I'm sure Parker will be back in his own time.
I can't see it being a water inversion if you hit something solid. Water tends to not act like a solid regardless of it's temperature, unless it is ice. So to me it would suggest you were in shallows, above a previous wreck, or found a whale underneath you. Personally, I'd go with the wale version. Much better to tell your friends.

Glad you enjoy it!
Becca, amazingly each episode completion leads us further in your debt for both it'd beauty, character and simple elegance. Thank you both!
We are all very concerned about Parker!
Awww thank you David, what a lovely comment.
No need to worry, he is doing just fine😊

Thanks! We're enjoying this camera too. Not sure when he will start again, I guess in his own time.
Sure wish we could hear from Parker… I love that he is still sailing, did his woman bail or is she still haunting around ? I miss his energy.
You are not the first to hit/nearly hit shallow ground without seeing it on navionics until zooming right in afterwards. A close call not to be repeated!
Loved the video. I wasn't even there and i enjoyed the day exploring the river. Fabulous
Lesson learnt always zoom down to lower levels when passage planning on leccy charts
Thanks for the tip.

Personally I love the boat project vids most, but I have to admit, that was stunningly beautiful. Great work as always!
We love doing those project vids too, but it’s always nice to share some of the beauty of where we are!

no harm in bearing away better safe than sorry
Totally agree! Better safe than sorry.
Wow, a thermocline can give a depth finder a false reading. Wouldn’t have guessed that.
The ocean's full of surprises, huh? Just when you think you've got it all figured out, it throws a curveball!
Question why on your size boat don't you have sonar which is important?
Would you mind giving the name of the marina? Trying to locate along with you. edit: Found you. La Manzanilla. What a cool adventure! The mangrove is so nice, you could be the first English explorers .
How often do you go back and watch your fist videos? Do you wake up every day and pinch yourselves?
What ever happened to the electric outboard motor for the dingy? I might of missed that episode.
Great question! We decided to switch things up and go with a different setup for the dinghy. We wanted something that could tow the boat incase something ever happened to our main engine.
Great video, ask please, sailing seawind to post I miss his blog.

another gret vlog, has Parker stopped adding to his vlogs? Shame really, as I watched those too.

Good idea, but thankfully we have a little floating compressor already that we use to clean the bottom when needed😊
Hard to starboard good idea.

Yonks!
It could have been an underwater volcano, and your depth gauge picked up the warmer water.
Could have been!
Need to update sound mic
It could well have been a humpback for us too, thanks for telling us your story!
I don’t think you did anything wrong, we all follow the charts, but you won’t see all the shallows.chalk it up to experience
So, This issue is super common, a reef is on the map but not always noticeable on the screen. Why can’t Navionics OR Any mapping app write a simple audio “Alarm” into the app that, based on current heading you will run aground in x feet/meters? It seems like a simple procedure to add but nobody has it, am i wrong? Instead you can get forward facing sonar from B&G and others that require expensive hardware (and would work for both marked and unmarked hazards) but 99% of run aground would be saved with a software driven app.
❤
Schools of krill will set the deph sounder off too. Turn the sensitivity down and false alarms will decrease radically.
Thanks for the tip! Adjusting the sensitivity sounds like a smart move to avoid those pesky false alarms.
PLEASE do something about the sound quality!
Go old school… swing the lead…..you know like they did in the past.
Have a weight on a rope with depth makings.
Fair winds
Haha good idea!
Samuel Langhorne Clemens (aka Mark Twain) did that when he wasn't writing his book. ;)

Bs narrative on stupid planning... brilliant! try to stay safe.
And by the way.. Navionics charts suck!
Stupid planning? The shallows weren’t on nautical charts
Navionics is not a nautical chart
aw come on guys...a dinghy adventure and you did not check the gas....hmmmm
I guess an error in judgment. But I was thinking this too and then them thinking it's just chill to take someone else's fuel.
Thankfully we were with friends.
