It’s one thing to play that many instruments - lots of band teachers do - but from what I can tell with my headphones on, he plays them ALL pretty well. In honesty though, the piece is originally scored with strings…and I imagine if Declan reads this, he’ll master violin by next week. 😂
Each instrument has different parts so not all trombones play the same thing and same goes w the rest. Copy and pasting one track wouldnt achieve the whole piece
You have no idea how much time it took me to get all those parts up to speed without having to do cuts LOL. The 3rd Clarinet and 2nd-3rd Cornet parts really threw me through a loop. The work paid off though!
@ 100%. Playing 2nd and 3rd parts is really hard. Blending in and being in tune (as well as being able to pick out your own line, which isn’t the melody often) is really challenging and I found them harder than the 1sts
Most of the time when people do these types of videos they have some sort of a click track in their ear. I can't tell if he has something like this, but I would bet so-it's just a bit too perfect to be otherwise.
This is actually so genuinely impressive being able to play every part so well, and it somehow sounds better than a lot of real orchestra versions I've heard.
If anyone is wondering, the song is on JW Pepper. Just look up: Sleigh Ride there and scroll down until you see some dudes face with a blue background that fades into white at the top.
Above all that everyone else has mentioned, the one thing I absolutely adore that you did is actually playing the "Go Big Blue!" section right at the 1:50 mark. Very few people have recorded performances where *everyone* actually read that backing/bassline part correctly, and it's unbelievably refreshing to hear a take that does. Spectacular work here on all parts :3
Trust me I had to throw out so many recordings to due simple or dumb mistakes. I also had to stay in tune with myself because in my opinion, using auto tune or pitch correction on instrumental recordings can make it sound robotic or fake. A lot of other videos similar to this playing sleigh ride or other pieces as a one person band are so blatantly auto tuned and pitch corrected that it was difficult for me to listen to. Simply playing in tune (is not easy of course) makes editing easier and just makes you sound better because you don’t rely on pitch correction. Thanks for listening!
Honestly, the articulation and rhythmic clarity are amazing -- and sonic clarity as well, how you managed to put that many recordings together without room-noise buildup into a loud hiss is pretty remarkable. This is what I've been wanting to do, but limited to woodwinds - I gave up brass and sold those instruments a long time ago, but the tech hurdles still elude me a bit.
I have experienced the room noise problem before haha: I made sure to denoise my recordings before I threw them into my final mix, thankfully I didn’t have the hiss problem. The intonation I found the hardest! Playing in tune with myself was really hard and I didn’t want to rely on autotune or pitch correction like other people who did this definately did. It just sounds better without being altered that way.
@@VGMBassoon Did you play with a drone as a pitch reference? It seems like it would be extremely difficult to keep everything in tune without something to listen down to!
Pardon me for not seeing this earlier! It is VERY VERY difficult to stay in tune 100%. To try to combat this, I recorded the Tubas first and then worked my way upwards throughout the brass section until the Trumpets. That way, while I had the click track going I could hear what I have already played to make sure I am in tune with myself. I did this same process with the woodwinds starting with the 2nd Bassoon and working up to the Piccolo. It's tedious but it makes being in tune so much easier.
Fantastic playing a very nice song. Young man you are very talented. Declan the very best to you. Keep playing all the instruments. God Bless You. (CA)
So beautiful! But tbh the euphonium is my favorite part because you can really hear their background piece even if there is only like one euphonium player!
I used to record like this on my 2-channel Sony TC-630 reel-to-reel tape recorder when I was 17, still have most of the recordings (a lot more difficult to do than this). Then again, he could have synchronized it off a recording multiple times. That's quite a lot of instruments to learn to play that well AND in perfect tune.
I don’t know if anyone will believe me but I was in the RPO this year as a choral member and I got to listen to this song many times it’s one amazing view and sound being able to listen to it from behind you did a amazing job it reminded me of the exact moment wonderful.
I do projects like this several times a year, and I can confirm how insanely hard this is. I usually have to splice parts when I record in garage band. If the videos are what the recording is from, and aren’t essentially a voiceover for recordings that are spliced in garage band or pro tools, that is WILD.
@@ZeroEditsWeightlifitng they are for the most part. I played a couple wrong notes in some of the instruments I struggle with (low brass) but I ended up fixing them with a re-record of just that section. The less editing I have to do, the better the end product is so I just ended up doing re-records if I made a mistake that was dumb.
Impressive! I assumed you were a band teacher but then I read your bio. 😂 I was a music major (Indiana Univ) but I could certainly only play five instruments well enough to tackle Sleigh Ride. (My main instrument was piano, which helps not at all.) Next up: add the strings from the original scoring. 😂😂
Wow this is amazing! So impressive! Would have loved to see more close-up shots of the instruments or instrument sections (woodwind, brass, percussion) though. Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁 🛷
When you feel like you can play everyone else's part better than they can:
...and then prove it! :)
Thats gonna be me, I already got the brass covered
It’s one thing to play that many instruments - lots of band teachers do - but from what I can tell with my headphones on, he plays them ALL pretty well. In honesty though, the piece is originally scored with strings…and I imagine if Declan reads this, he’ll master violin by next week. 😂
Exactly how I feel in strings 💀
i don't feel this way i know i can
the fact that he individually played every instrument in a specific section instead of just copying the recording multiple times is lovely
cause it would sound tacky if he did that
yeah, if he had done that it would just sound like one instrument but louder
Each instrument has different parts so not all trombones play the same thing and same goes w the rest. Copy and pasting one track wouldnt achieve the whole piece
its like EMC productions but crazier
@@tgdelulu no its to play the different parts (eg French horn 1 and 2)
Final boss of band class
PLEASE
The credits actaully made me cry 😭
Peak jokes
thanks for spoiling
They actaully made me cry too
Real 😭
@@methodzerobro is reading the comments during the video like hang what do you expect 😂
The band: messes up one part
Him: Fine, I’ll do it myself
This is actually impressive because you know how to play all these instruments😭😭
Came for the band, stayed for the “🐴🐴🗣️🔥”
This sounds better than a lot of recordings I have heard where the musicians are supposedly playing their main instruments 😅
Excellent job!
You have no idea how much time it took me to get all those parts up to speed without having to do cuts LOL. The 3rd Clarinet and 2nd-3rd Cornet parts really threw me through a loop. The work paid off though!
@@VGMBassoon SO real!!! 3rd cornet is actually so hard with the fingerings!! We just finished playing this in my band!
@ 100%. Playing 2nd and 3rd parts is really hard. Blending in and being in tune (as well as being able to pick out your own line, which isn’t the melody often) is really challenging and I found them harder than the 1sts
That's because everything is close-miked. One instrument at a time means one microphone next to each instrument with no bleed from the others.
Had this same thought. I cannot believe how clean this version is. VERY well done
Now, that is one big slapper. The one in our school is half that size.
It may be big but it’s not that loud sadly
One of my favorite parts of the whole piece! 👏
Bro took the “I can play their part better” and actually did it😭 it’s so good tho
this is how you master tempo. he did all these separate not using any other instruments to keep tempo, Bravo!
@BillSmith-rx9rm its hard to explain but its literally perfect. also the fact that he can play all of these is great
hes asian it makes sense😢
Most of the time when people do these types of videos they have some sort of a click track in their ear. I can't tell if he has something like this, but I would bet so-it's just a bit too perfect to be otherwise.
@DemonizedAll thats crazy 💀
This right here is what I call pure BAND DIRECTOR quality 👌
This is actually so genuinely impressive being able to play every part so well, and it somehow sounds better than a lot of real orchestra versions I've heard.

actually better than any other band ive heard play sleigh ride lol
I wish I could clone myself 40 times. The powers are strong within this one 😁
To add on, it's illegal he didn't jump with the slapstick
"What instrument do you play?"
Him: Yes

LITERALLY SO MUCH TALENT OMG!!!
Now that’s what I call RANGE! Nice work!
Just found your videos and as a former band kid, you crushed it
Amen! Jesus loves you!
This is actually insane how you pulled this off so perfectly
I love the credits, they deserved the recognition
The jingle bells and Christmas lights necklace are almost in sync! 😄
That's a masterpiece tune too. Lots of changes to play.
Holy freaking Christmas cow! The ultimate in synchronization!
Now THIS is TALENT!
Bass trombone part on a straight tenor goes hard
Bravo! Outstanding! A+! You are an incredible talent! 🎺🎶🎵👍
This is especially impressive because of the lack of mistakes. In music, any tiny small mistake is very noticeable, so good job not having those
