The drone shots were filmed outside of park boundaries, looking in (as always but this usually needs to be clarified). This trip was in Pukaskwa River Provincial Park FYI....Pukaskwa National Park starts farther downriver. Billy Bellows I used at 12:22 to stoke the fire (handmade by Erin's Dad in Thunder Bay): www.billybellows.com Where I got the stick stove: www.canoepaddler.net/shop
Jon, be careful with old cans of bearspray, I had one that I carried for about 5 years until one day the can corroded enough it started leaking in the vehicle one day when I was driving out fishing, had to pull over and air out the van for almost an hour before I could even drive and had to drive with the windows down for like a week and a half. Seems the pepper spray eventually ate through the welded seem at the bottom of the can. After that I stopped even carrying bear spray, but if I did carry it again I'd buy a fresh one every year just in case.
I can picture it in my mind. Jon yells to Erin "I'm leaving now Honey" "Going on a 2 week trip with Xander". Erin yells back, "Have a good time! "You havent forgotten anything have you?" "Don't be silly" Jon hollers "This isn't my first rodeo" "I got everything!"
The amount of time, quality equipment and effort you put into your videos rewards all of us. Don’t think it goes unappreciated, your work is second to none. Thank you for the enjoyment you give your viewers.
Just had surgery yesterday and am laying in bed missing canoeing and this is going to be perfect for how crappy I’m feeling layed up. This is probably the beginning of binge watching Lost Lakes for the rest of the day!! Thanks a ton! Couldn’t come at a better time! Cheers!
The canoeing and camping will always be the heart of your videos, but I really enjoy when you throw in more of the mapping, route planning, and remote sensing you utilize to scout and explore routes. It's an integral part of being prepared for most any trip and highlights the tools to get that done. Let's face it, maps are just cool when you realize the picture they can paint without being somewhere yourself.
Have you tried that silky katana? I bought the 800mm for road clearing last winter. It's no joke, as good as a chainsaw. Obviously it never runs out of fuel but it burns calories instead, comparable to pedaling a bike uphill. That's why we call it the oatmeal powered chainsaw. I was also able to use it to fell a couple huge dead trees and stack a ton of firewood quickly.
Yessir! That’s gonna be one heck of a trip. I already got a taste of what to come from XB. The words Epic and Classic will forever be associated with this adventure I’m betting. I’m glad I’m able to get early access. Thanks Jon
Great perspective of some pre-trip recon! It's fun seeing your excitement leading up to such a big adventure. Xander's perspective so far has been entertaining to say the least, and I'm very much looking forward to your video when it comes! Keep it up Jon, your enthusiasm is contagious.
Just the recon trip was an adventure. Can’t wait to see the main event. Interesting little stick stove. I’ve been using the Solostove stick stove for over a year now which is similar ro your old one. The Solostove works great and I don’t mind cutting the 3” logs but I can see how your new one would be less fussy. I loved your main trip teaser highlights. Very well done. Looks amazing. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks a lot Chuck! Always pros and cons eh....tempted to cut a hole in my previous Kelly Kettle hobo stove so that sticks could be fed in since it's a simple design. With a solo stove I wonder if doing that would mess up the draw
@@LostLakes that would definitively affect the convective draw and effect. Once it heats up it’s like a little jet engine, which is what it’s designed to be. Why mess with a good thing. That reminds me of my buddy that kept threatening to square off the back of a prospector canoe I sold him to put a motor on it. What!? 😳
This is great to see some of the leg work that goes into your trips! Excited to watch your film of the big adventure after that awesome teaser. Happy trails Jon!
At 16:00 you speak of sacrifice. These are things we all should be willing to do in all aspects of life. They make better, stronger, and more capable people. And in the senior years as I am in, it gives us lots of wisdom and perspective. You've made a fine point.
I love your stuff! My only complaint is your videos always make me hungry. When I was younger and took trips our meals were jerky, Dinty Moore canned stew, or peanut butter and jelly. You really know how to plan and prepare meals. Photography and editing are excellent. Keep up the good work.
Awesome Jon, looking forward to your version of the trip. I just finished a fishing trip with my Dad on Esnagi Lake last week out of White River - beautiful wilderness for sure.
Always great to pre scout a long trip. Even an area you’re familiar with. From year to year changes to the landscape/water can occur like beaver dams, downed trees and so on. Enjoyable as always. Looking forward to your series you the trip. Thanks for sharing. Take care and stay safe.
I already watched Xander's videos of your guys' trip, but that little teaser at the end here got me so pumped to watch your rendition of it! 😁 Can't wait. Still loving all of your content Jon! 🙌
Very well said about the sacrifices while camping and comfort at home. I love how you articulated the learning aspect of being out in the wild. Awesome video as always, Jon!
John, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, your cinematography is outstanding!! I enjoy your videos so much, keep up the excellent work and stay safe!!
You find some of the worst slog portages imaginable, but you still always make it through. Can't wait for the whole trip video: I know this one is going to be epic!
Great pre-trip - can’t wait to watch your adventure with Xander. Love my Solo stove, but I’m intrigued by your new stove. The moose, beaver, and rainbow - wow - beautiful cinematography as always, Jon.
Yes, excellent video, cannot wait to see the next, and that said, just got back from my first solo camping trip, wow, three nights at a small provincial park, more or less to practice with the kit, set up camp and stuff, kayaking, fishing, but weeds were nasty. But you can see how challenging all that is, I over-prepped, but also under-prepped, a sleeping bag liner and a wool blanket - nope, it got cold, and my lighting, nice but inadequate, then there is the creep factor, so sleep how can I say, was minimal, next time I will make the improvements. Of course, I can see why you mention the critical path and preparation, much to coordinate without creating extra burdens, for sure, what you are doing demands a massive skill set that is ever-evolving. Best!
You can’t wait to do the trip. I can’t wait to see it. Sounds epic. Really interesting to see the trial and error down the forestry roads. That park along Superior just seems so impenetrable.
Thank you so much for making these videos. I grew up on the north shore of Lake Superior and miss it dearly. You are incredibly lucky to be able to enjoy it’s beauty year round! Keep up the great work!!
Love your videos. I live in Sault Ste Marie and have spent alot of time on the north shore of superior traveling, enjoying the outdoors and working. Spent alot of time in Schreiber building roads for the new powerline. When i saw the video that you were in the Santoy Lake area i remembered hearing from locals and people i worked with that they saw cougars and then you mentioned them in your video. Keep the great videos coming and stay safe.
Thanks Barb! Just got back from Wabakimi (Bruce and Margaret say hi) and was on Caribou Lake. I was thinking it would be a fun one for your kayaking group. Huge lake, many islands, just outside the park...maybe you've been already
Great video. I love the more remote areas for that wild and ruggedness but it's definitely not easy to do solo. Trails are often grown in and it takes work to get through them. But you often make it look easy. Thanks for bringing us along.
Very cool little trip to the beginning of the epic trip to come. Watched Xander's now looking forward to yours. Very cool twig stove. Be better if it came with that grate you had as wel. Natel
Great trip ! We did our first canoe trip on Canada in algonquin we always think back to how Jon and Erin do it haha. We made your calzones and they were a hit.

16:20 very wise words, Jon. Yes, it is bad for us not to know a little bit (or a lot!) about sometimes doing without, and being able to live well in the TRUE sense of the word. Which is not about material things, not when you think about it.

OMG, had me on the edge of my seat after the human error statement! LOL Looking forward to seeing that trip. Thanks for sharing your scouting mission trip! :) :)
Hey, man. What a great video again. Love to see all of that :) You are so nice and natural to the nature , as nature is to you. I wish i could spend my days in these wild rivers/lakes. I wish you all the best as always ;) P.s. Show more of the aeating, whatever the food is. People like this thing ;)
Looking forward to the full version. Excellent videography as usual. I have watched many of your videos since discovering your channel, but this one is the first where I I have been. As a kid I drove up through Wawa and White River to drive, fly, or train into several different lakes, with Esnagi being the most repeated. Such beautiful country. I can only imagine seeing it from the much closer perspective of canoe camping through the wild backcountry. Great stuff. At the risk of sounding too proper, I have a twig stove among my several camp and backpacking stoves, but always struggle to keep everything else in my pack from becoming covered with soot. Do you simply deal with it, or how do you avoid the soot on the rest of your cool kit?
Jon!!! I love that new stove!! No fuss, light sticks, burn sticks, cook food. It’s a lot like my emberlit stoves. I have the titanium and ss versions. The solo stove burns well like a furnace until, for whatever reason, it doesn’t which is kind of strange that it does that. Must be ash build up or something. I have the trangia winter preheater which raises the trangia up higher in the burn chamber of the emberlit stove. The emberlit stove is a square smaller concept as what you have there. On your book, a friend of mine whom I did forestry work with, in northern california, rode his bike across canada and wrote a book about it. His name is Art Peterson. The books title is “Two Wheels Across Canada”. It was in the late eighties early nineties roughly when he did it. I don’t know… you might like it. Anyway… take care sir and looking forward to your creation with Xander. NQU
Hahah I know what you mean, I think this one is susceptible to ash buildup too and perhaps all stoves are. So far I think the key is to have my pot/pan ready to go when I light it, and get the job done quick before it gets too gummed up. Thanks for the reco NQU! Hoping to have my version up this weekend :)
This is awesome to see after watching the last 3 videos from Xander. You fellas made an epic team and despite those small challenges at the beginning; you both looked like you had the trip of a lifetime. Bet you’ll never leave the house for a trip again without triple checking your gear tho!
Interesting to see how you scout out a trip and clean up portages. I've been looking for a long twig stove like that for a while, what was the name of the company? I'll have to see if they ship to the UK or have an outlet here they ship to. You should have a Swiss Army knife in your pocket in case of emergencies, you can 'bushcraft' up a splint, some crutches and a log cabin while you wait for help... I watched Xander's film of the trip, you earnt my respect for the incident in the early section.
Hahaha building a log cabin with a pocket knife gave me a good laugh. I'm surprised I gained any respect from being such a fool but thanks for your support brother. And I meant to pin a comment about that, thanks for the reminder: www.canoepaddler.net/shop
The scenery is awesome but I'm wondering is it unusually dry? There's mostly pine trees and a lot of dry pine needles. Is that the way this country usually looks so dry? Thank you for sharing such beautiful awesome pictures. I don't get to see such scenery as this very often.
Thanks Wendy! We get plenty of rain here but it was early season and the snow and ice had just melted, so the trees probably weren't looking the most lush yet (and the deciduous trees hadn't budded out yet)
Hey Jon, how ya been? Been a long while since I stopped by to watch some of your trips and say hi. My boy Jack (ended up going with Parker, not pine lol) was born in January and I have had little time to myself. It’s a blast being a first time parent but it’s all consuming. The days of tripping seem like yester year at the moment, but I am eager for him to get older and come along with me. I honestly think sharing the Wilderness with him will be amongst the greatest joys of my lifetime. I see you hit a 100k. I remember a few years back saying you’d get there. Here’s to 1 million. No doubt you’ll hit that milestone as well. Hope all is well! We nosed her in by Pukaskwa, out for fifteen days, To put paddle and the spirit at the mercy of the waves. HA, never gets old. Good luck on your upcoming trip!
Hey Nick, I'll bet you've been busy...very exciting times, congrats! Not sure if I'll try to have kids but experiencing that joy of a lifetime sounds really amazing. Haha so, so wish I could use that track in the vid
Excellent video Jon great sights and sounds as always. I like the idea of pirogies for a first night meal. Will be following your trip with Xander. CHEERS!!!!

Hahah a mistake is just a lesson learned...unless you make it again in which case there was a failure to learn. Fingers crossed I don't make it again
Looking forward to seeing your vids, already watched xanders and looked great ✌️🏴
Boom! Early access. Cheers Jon

Always enjoy a river trip.
Can't wait to see you and Xander videos. Tip don't forgot your food 🤣🤣
😆
Would love to see you and Joe do another trip.
Omg the last clip, now I'm onto the 11 day!!!
We nosed her in by Pukaskwa, out for fifteen days,
To put paddle and the spirit at the mercy of the waves.
CHEERS!!!!
Thanks Ian! They were great out there, don't know why I haven't done them on a trip before
Love the bellow! Just ordered one for the camping kit. Looks much better than the cheap metal ones I have used before that end up breaking.
Thanks for the order FWK! 💚
Love driving logging roads too.
Nice buddy, looking forward to your videos from this trip.
It looked awesome
Cheers
