And, once more, what you say doesn't make any difference to what I first said, it doesn't prove anything wrong to what I said at all, but you keep saying it in a way that tries to challenge it, Why? Steve Allen and Andy Griffith both have a lot of skills and experience to learn from. Elvis, good performance student that he was, surely enjoyed learning from both Mr Allen and Mr Griffith, a generation his senior.
    And all of them surely took advantage of the learning opportunities when Mrs Coca worked. She was a generation older than the senior fellas.

      Elvis supposedly was a very cool guy; came down for Tigers 2 and 3oz and didn't understand everything yet esp. Steve Allen who was so ahead of his time but you can see they were having fun. Steve Allen, in those " intellectual " glasses, was so well-read and cool, tho he looks like an old fud now, a shame because that's so inaccurate, that he reportedly was so kind to Elvis, not in TV long yet at that point, got him around to meet people etc. And Elvis did. Two guys who contributed so much to the West Michigan area.

      Andrew Miller - this was VERY early in his career and one of his first appearances on TV, and he did have a good sense of humor, and probably was glad just to be on national TV (if he was ever even on any local stations first). You call this crap but you're looking at it from a 2022 POV while the TV was full of variety shows. EP was also on with Milton Berle before Ed finally broke down and had him on the Sullivan show.

    • @andrewmiller4885
      @andrewmiller4885 Рік тому +2

      @@lynnlobliner3933 Yes I can see Elvis is very young and it was indeed early in his career. However, in 1956 when he appeared on the Steve Allen show, Elvis was already a big national star with the release of his smash hit Heartbreak Hotel. It was already out, and even on its way to INTERNATIONAL, acclaim. The record was released January 27th of that same year. Given that kind of mind-boggling success, I felt this show was beneath him. Having said that, I fully understand your point. We are indeed looking back after many many years of this man's fame and God given talent, which really was in the stratosphere, and still remains so. Elvis has never been surpassed. I think Elvis put up with a lot of silly stuff he didn't want to do. He was too polite, too co-operative, and way too humble. He knew what good manners were, and what it meant to be civilised, and to respect other people, but those characteristics were just more reasons why he was so loved by everyone. Thank you for your reply, it was appreciated.

      NOMADdaf - this was one of his very first appearances on national TV, Steve's Sunday night show opposite Sullivan, and this was live. Quit looking at it through your 2022 eyes and watch it through 1956 eyes. There were lots of corny variety shows on TV and they all pretty much stunk from today's POV. Even shows hosted by the likes of Perry Como and Dinah Shore, while having their names on the title, were variety shows with corn.

    I've had the soundtrack to this on Bootleg for many years. I never realized that around 5.20 into this performance that Imogene Coca is singing "Begin the Beguine". Now I can see why Elvis said he had sold out when doing the Steve Alan Show. I always thought it had to him wearing the tux singing to a hound dog. The whole show looks like they tried to just make fun of the music.
    Elvis was a good sport. You can definitely see his star quality. Holding his own up there. You gotta love Andy Griffith

      His fans could forgive Elvis in 1956, for at that part of his career, he could do no wrong in his fans’ eyes. Elvis sold out when he began appearing in movie abominations.

It was a comedy show and you can't see that Elvis is actually having some fun, here?

      That singing to a hounding was belittling to Elvis and he never forgot it! He went through alot in those days, any lesser man would've given up! In the end he showed them all and had the last laugh, even almost 50 yrs. after death he's Still revelant!

    As a young man I bought into the narrative that Steve Allen was deliberately trying to humiliate Elvis. Now I look at it differently. In The Godfather, a killing is only ‘business’, in entertainment, being humiliated on TV is strictly ‘show business’. Everyone gets airtime, everybody gets paid. And it did Elvis no harm.

    Allen allegedly had given Elvis another ‘chance’ at tv, but had to be done his way. Allen’s body language tells all, by having his back to Elvis in the skit, seemingly cutting him out and never making eye contact; he wasn't fond of the young boy or the music he represented. The media was all Elvis in a negative light at this point in his career. Allen essentially forced Elvis to not be himself while performing. Instead just stand still, and wear tails while singing hound dog, all requirements of Allen.

    Did Andy like Elvis? I always wondered abt that b/c of the Andy Griffith Show episode "The Guitar Player"! Andy arrests the guitar player & tells him he's ready 4the big time & mentions abt the guy every once in awhile on T.V., "Sounds like s/body beating his dog" & bk then we all know he's talking abt Elvis! We all know Steve Allen was trying his BS 2put Elvis down singing 2A hound dog BUT Andy's name is on his name sake of a show & I'm curious why Andy wld say that abt(which is Elvis)in that episode! Writers or not b/c that's Andy's overall say & I love wating those Andy shows BUT did Andy like Elvis is my point!!!
