  • For a while, I wanted to upload my old 6D for a better low-light camera as I photograph a lot at night. Then came, 7 years later, the #CanonR6. Which I guess is the real replacement for the excellent #6D. Are 7 Years of improvement finally paid off? Or is the EOS #R6 a disappointment as the cameras between all these years? Only a way to find out...

Very interesting test. I too use the Canon 6D for real estate photography. Which mirrorless camera should I upgrade to or lens upgrade? I use the 6D with the 17-40mm for stills and the M50 with 10-22mm for video. Thank you

Hi Tony. Very good question! As a good camera becomes great with a great lens, and it a very hard question to reply...
If low light isn't a problem (and if you can just make a long exposure instead of claiming the iso) a good lens is way more important. I see that you use a lot of wide angle (I think that it's because you don't have a choice as real estate stuff, sometimes you just can't go back enough) but the Distortion of the lens can be a problem on that Zoom range, so prime lens usually will be better suited. Also consider Tilt-Shift lenses (I think Samyang 24mm Tilt-Shift can be very useful) but it can be a big pricey new. So check out the second hand market and a lot of reviews before buying!
      Good luck 🤞

Hi! What makes a good camera great is the lens! For photos of the milky-way I use the Samyang 14mm f2.8, the Firefly 15 mm f/2.4 is also a good choice!
      My tip for starting:
When I was starting (before buying a camera) I searched for used lenses, good lens can be used for a long time, and I saw that my best option was Canon.

Very good question! And it makes totally sense, as infrared radiation isn't filtered (what's used for heat vision goggles) so it's logical that it could happen... But... I didn't see it on my 6D modified...! But I'm also running out some tests as I have some free time and good weather.

Damn the R6 is good, shame that the RF optics so far have been either absurdely priced or a bit underwhelming, especially for astro there isn't a single good native lens out yet apart with some Laowa without AF...

Hi Miguel. Interesting video and I'd say Canon 6d did well and noise doing astrophotography is still their and I thought these both should see in the dark. My pixel 4 can see in the dark better because pixel 4 is made for astrophotography and pixel 4 has very little noise compared to R6. Canon 6d still worth buying and you say Canon 6d mark 11 isn't a much of an upgrade. You think I should still get Canon 6d mark 11? I hear alot of bad things about 6d mark 11 and it's dynamic range is poor even worse than smartphones. R6 looks nice but so expensive about $4000 while Canon 6d is cheaper and with software you can reduce noise. With the right software you can improve these image's till you got it looking great. I'd say 6d wins because of cost and still does great. Most would look at price of r6 and that would put alot of peaple off buying r6. There is nothing wrong with 6d compared to r6! Would you upgrade to r6 from 6d? I'm going to get Instagram account and show you the ghostly shot I took with Pixel 4 and Hauwei p20 best shot I took with so many stars I couldn't believe it from a smartphone. I'd love to see you with the Pixel 4 under a dark sky location and see what you think. This video shows 6d still is a great camera it is and stay safe!!!

      @migueldesa0031  3 роки тому +1

Hi! Yes you are right, second hand canon 6d is a great value!
But the pixel 4 doesn't beat the Canons... Send me some dng of 800 iso, 1600 iso, 3200 iso and 6400 iso (if it can) and from 10 to 30 seconds, in complete darkness (as I did on the video) and I would like to compare the 😉
Astro mode is a staking technique from the pixel, so it doesn't count. As is combined a bunch of images.

Hard to imagine that the 6DmkII would have a worse dynamic range than a phone. The image files from a phone aren't very good, it's the software that makes them appear so. I'm pondering on the same upgrade issue from 6D to R6 and if i'm going mirrorless that's the only option. R5 is way out of my price range since i am mainly a hobbyist/non-profit photographer. And there isn't much sense to switch to R or RP from 6D.

@@R20set I believe software saves dslrs as well because the images you see are done with software. Smartphones can get fantastic shots as I took a single shot with Samsung S7 smartphone using Silent camera and ive never used software on it and looks fantastic. Silent camera app is on Google play store.
All dslrs need software to improve the shots. I've got the Canon 700D and I hear it can do professional photography and it's an entry level camera.
Hauwei smartphones are fantastic in extreme low light as I've been impressed how it's done in extreme low light. Hauwei P20 smartphone really shines in very low light. Professional photographers say only high end dslrs are the best but that's not true.
In 1990s I had a single lens reflex camera before dslrs and it was awesome for astrophotography way better than latest dslrs and slr camera was film and needed no software because software wasn't around. Miss that little full frame camera as it broke.
My complaint on dslrs nowadays is they cost far too money and smartphones are now getting more popular now as they will improve to the point they will be better than high end dslrs. Hauwei is leading the way as I've seen shots from Hauwei P30Pro and wow I thought. Great photography comes from you not the camera!

@@bushcraftandastronomer.3775 You're in dreamland. The sensors on smartphones are garbage compared to DSLRs. What your phone does is computational photography. When you think you take ONE shot, in a backlit situation for example, the phone rapidly fires of multiple shots without you even being aware of it and blends them into a single image. This image stacking combines separate exposures for highlights and shadows and image stacking also reduces noise.
Look at your images on a decent sized monitor and not on a tiny phone screen and you'll see your sensor is rubbish. Also, use multi-shot noise reduction mode on a cheap Canon mirrorless camera and you'll see CLEAN out-of-camera JPEGs at ISO 16000 your phone cannot match at ISO 800. Multi-shot Noise Reduction mode takes 4 shots to do what your phone does (I believe the phone uses more than 4 shots) and the results are chalk and cheese.

@@cooloox interesting what you say and the reason why smartphones are getting so popular for astrophotography is that they are far cheaper than dslrs and Miguel shows how much fun you can have with a smartphone. Somebody on youtube shot the milky way with oneplus 5 smartphone and it's fantastic as good as high end DSLR.
I use Huawei p20 and p20pro and I know how good they are at astrophotography because I test them. The secret is software. Dslrs and smartphones use the same software to improve shots. Pixel 4 smartphone for astrophotography is fantastic as I've tested it in dark location. I wouldn't say smartphone cameras are bad because I've taken a professional day time shot that looked fantastic and I used the ok Samsung s7 camera and I used silent Camera app and that's why I got that perfect shot. Silent camera app is just great.
With the right software you can get images looking so much better which I use lightroom mobile with all the features. It's actually you and software that makes the shot.
I owned slr camera in 1990s and I wish I had it still because it took way better astrophotography images than these dslrs because it was all film and didn't need software and I took awesome shots of the night sky. That slr wasn't digital and yet the shots it produced was nothing but fantastic. The reason why dslrs are declining fast is that smartphones are here and they keep improving them which in future Hauwei smartphone cameras will be better. Dslrs are declining because they are too expensive then there is memory cards lenses which costs thousands because photographers say you need the latest gear. Plus smartphones are essential to alert somebody if you get into trouble or need help.
I've seen fantastic photography with Hauwei P30pro and that looked professional. I own Canon 700 dslr an entry level dslr and can produce professional photography which is so nice. A professional photographer said once on youtube channel that his iPhone 6s takes way better shots that his 4 thousand dollar dslr!!! He shows how it's done and and that's coming from a pro. I'll use my dslr and smartphones and I'll have fun because photography is all done by you and not the cameras!!!

You can just download the images and check it yourself, the video is just my professional opinion and reactions. There's no ads or email submissions to download or any of those anointing things.
Besides, unfortunately, as the bitrate is bigger at 4k, it has 4x pixels to display, making it the same level of quality/compression as 1080p, making no difference. Here's youtube help page about it: "Recommended upload encoding settings - UA-cam Help" support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en
Other than that I need a uhd screen (on my personal pc) to shoot at that resolution. If I just upscale it will add more artifacts.

The sensor in the r6 is the same as the EOS-1DX which was released in the same year as the 6D. You are not comparing 7 years of improvements but rather a sensor that is a few months OLDER than the one that you have been using for 7 years.

    • @migueldesa0031

      Hi Adam!
Yes, if the same sensor is resumed in numbers of pixels and about the same size, yeah, they are the same!
The "same sensor as" was first described in a rumor, and for some reason it stick. It is easy to understand, as it is the same pixel count, and full frame (I say full frame as a simplification, one is very slightly bigger than the other). But it isn't the same, the pixel square area, the energy consumption isn't the same, bit depth process, brightness sensibility, and a lot of other things that improved over the time. And today we just can't evaluate just the sense, because it closed relationships with the processors.
