I started my electronics hobby in 1983, worked with various analog mm's for several years and got my first dmm, Beckman Industrial DM27xl, by the end of 80's or beginning of the 90's. I still have it on my bench and its value is priceless for me after all these years. Yes, it is a bit slow compared to modern devices, but it is very accurate and it is my reference tool. Thanks for the video Peter, I enjoyed it as usual.
I just bought this model at a hamfest in Tucson this morning for $250.00. It seems to be a good deal after I checked prices on these, and the guy I bought it from didn't use it, so it's like new. Anyway, I've watched some of your repair videos and ran across this review! Since I'm just learning electronics, this might be overkill, but I couldn't pass up the deal! I enjoy your videos! Mike - ND7E
I have similar one SDM3055 - very good value for the money and I haven't had to look at the manual once. BTW -what drove me away from the handheld (Fluke 289) was the battery saving auto-off - it drove me crazy.
Can't wait for part two! I have the sdm3055 (it's my first dmm) and I like it after they did some good firmware updates, they still need to solve some bugs but I'm happy with it.
Hi Michael, yes I agree after some important firmware upgrades it is really a good DMM thus I'm confident that they will be able to manage it with the 3045 too. 73
Nice video! I just received my 3055 yesterday and looking forward to putting it through its paces. Also, I didn't hear you mention Fluke as an "A" brand, which I would definitely consider them to be. I grew up on Fluke 8600A and 8600B in my early "formal" electronics career in the late 70s, then really came to love Fluke with the 5101 calibrator when I worked in a calibration lab 10 years later. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos!
I write by google translator. I have a short question. Is it possible to buy 3045 or add to 3055 or choose the rigne DM3058E? Prices close selection difficult. I do not have a professional meter and I'm looking for something that could be but I have a small bubrzet to buy. Modem 3045 looks OK but this DC + AC made me a little worried.
Agilent's "AC bandwidth" is not a "Frequency Measurement" in Siglent's datasheet. Agilent have a "Frequency Measurement" feature too, 0.5Hz up to about 1MHz.
Hi, Peter. Just wanted to let you know that you can turn off the U1272A's backlight timeout in the setup menu. See page 138 in the User's Guide: literature.cdn.keysight.com/litweb/pdf/U1271-90010.pdf?id=1974292 73 de Magne LA1WUA
Thanks for the first part Peter, look forward to the second; I have the Rigol DM3068. If you need a bit of extra space on the bench you may want to remove the rubber bumpers around the case. For the bench gear II routinely remove the handles and bumpers as you can squeeze in that much more stuff - more stuff is better!! Check out my QRZ page for some pix. Happy New Year! 73 - Dino KL0S
I have already seen your station and your lab a couple of time ago Dino. Very nice equipment and of course the rigol DM3068 is a very nice meter as well. With the Siglent we need to be a bit patient as it has some bugs but other than that it is very promising. Thanks for watching 73
Peter
This Siglent "convinience " of 4½ digits will last you 2 weeks and will cost you in Germany by Bartronix €428, and you will never enjoy it. The new Keithley 6500 6½ digits wil cost you 1050€ (with VAT/MWSt) and you will enjoy from it 40-50 years and you can alway lower the resolution and much much more. I haver bought two Siglent power supplys of more than €300 each and after some short use trafos started to ZOOM. Knob for voltage adjustment jumps like crazy up down the Voltages.

That Voltcraft was a rebranded Metex. But even my 28y old 4 1/2 digit Metex 4650 is still working. pbs.twimg.com/media/CMtciXlWIAAaZtE.jpg
50uV pp is 17,67uV rms or appr. -82dBm all 50Ohm. There is no cheap way to test such low voltages. You need special equipment. May be on a HAM fest you can get something 3rd hand?? 100KHZ may be a old audio analyzer 1MG Ohm impedance or such but square wave is another thing..
MY GOD the damn thing has almost a 20 second boot time. rubbish. Dont believe me, go watch someone boot one from a cold start. its frozen dog shit slow. I'll keep looking for a 34401a

Hi Bora, the most important point is always that you are satisfied with what you have nothing else matters.. Thanks for feed-back 73
Thanks for sharing Peter. Looking forward to the hands on review. I like the nice big display on it, very easy on the eyes.
Hi Mike, yeah the display is really nice...The review will show some bugs..your Rigol is more perfected I need to be patient.. 73

Very good review. Look forward to the second video. Thanks Peter.
Thank you Henry 73
Thanks for the review. Look forward to the second part. I must say a like the Siglent DMM already.Robert.
Thanks for watching Robert. Well the DMM is just coll but we need to be patient as there are some bugs to be fixed.. 73

Hi Curtis, yes of course Fluke is an A brand only missed it..!! Okay have fun with your 3055! Thanks for stopping by 73
I need a big display and no timed backlight! I'm looking at you, Hioki.
all what you want :-)
Got an Agilent 34401A in unused condition for a steal! Just need to get used to the jitter when measuring mv.
Great review. Complete and easy to understand.
Hello Peter! Looking forward to seeing you use the new meter in some troubleshooting work. Thanks for the Part 1 video. 73...Dan w4mnc
Hi Dan, yeah you will see it soon. Thanks for stepping by 73
Hi Peter, very nice review and information. Looking forward to second part. 73
Hi Larry, thank you. Part 2 will show some interesting findings.. 73
In comparison to ANY handheld, this multimeter shows EXACTLY HALF the resistance value measured in circuit.
Why is that ?

Modem 3045 looks OK but this DC + AC made me a little worried.
Very comrehensive review. Nice meter. Thanks for overview.A bargain for anyone.
Thank you my friend, yes it is really a nice meter but it needs to get more perfected as we will see in part 2. 73
AWESOME intro sharing your views about bench & handheld DMM!!!
SUBSCRIBED and LOVE your lab mate!!!! =]
Glad that you like it! Thanks for sub and welcome! Cheers
When off, is it normal for the power button to blink green?
Great review.looking forward to Part #2
Thank you Bryan. Cheers
Agilent's "AC bandwidth" is not a "Frequency Measurement" in Siglent's datasheet.
Agilent have a "Frequency Measurement" feature too, 0.5Hz up to about 1MHz.
The AC True RMS bandwidth is 100Khz, the counter can count to a higher amount. Cheers
Siglent's True RMS bw is 100KHz too. Same as Agilent :-)
Thanks for the great review Peter. Very nice bit of gear. All the best.
Thanks for stepping in Buddy. Take care 73
Professional and detailed info! Thanks!
Nice video & meter My Friend (apart from the bugs).. Looking forward to Pt 2 :)
Regards
John
Thanks for stepping in John! All the best Cheers my friend.
Hello. Will this serve me to measure B+ voltage in a tube amp? What CAT do I need? Thanks!
With any Multimeter you will be able to measure b+ as long it is not exceeding 1000 volt DC
At 19:16 after switching from DC Voltage to AC Voltage it still shows the + in front, seems a bit odd since AC can't be positive or negative.
Of course, didn't realise it during filming. That is a little bug as well. Thanks for watching 73
Hi Peter,
Appears the Siglent is a winner for a bench top DMM. 73 WB3BJU
Hi Donald, yes if all bugs are corrected it is a winner! Thanks for watching 73
For me it's I'm tired of turning the dial already and like fancy screens:D

Hi Magne, yes off course but the meter is battery driven so it is not a permanent solution on my opinion..

You are welcome David, thanks for watching 73
I don't like this meter. It's booting slow and resistance is not very accurate.

MY GOD the damn thing has almost a 20 second boot time. rubbish. Dont believe me, go watch someone boot one from a cold start. its frozen dog shit slow. I'll keep looking for a 34401a
Do you really think that you can rate a device by its boot time only??
A lot of babbling. Nothing to educate the viewer about the 3045. A lot of wasted video.
Well many other viewers have a different opinion but it is surly your right to have yours
