  • Forty years ago, Jim Gallagher founded the Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center at UW-La Crosse to pursue a combined mission of undergraduate education, regional research and contract archaeology services, and public engagement. In this interview MVAC's current director, Tim McAndrews, talks about how both MVAC and UWL's undergraduate Archaeology program have fared over the past 40 years, and how things are looking for the future.

Happy anniversary. I think Jim, Ernie and Connie were still students under professor Stoltman In 1979 when I met them. I am the daughter of Alfred Reed.

Love all the MVACers. but the place is different since Gallagher Ernie and Jim T retired......They had a chance to get Larry Zimmerman, but decided to go Inca, Eqypt and oh my instead.....I understand that attractes students.....But it made MVAC a Midwest Archaeology Center that was doomed to die on the vine......they will be the next Kampsville once Connie and Kathy retire....a ghost of a formerly great program...
