Hello thanks for the lesson Mary and.... I tried to mirrorring this morning with my wife and it was great. Normally we do not have long conversations but with mirrorring she kept talking and I liked it so much. And Mary you look great to;)

The point is that i do this all the time. I feel like a chameleon and hide my true self by mirroring others… 🤷

I truly agree with that as well. (I am a “Chameleon as well”).

Thank you for this helpful video AND for making the connection with the childhood taunting or annoying with the copy-cat game- because that was a lightbulb moment for me: why i had such a visceral resistance to this whole mirroring approach

Good video. I liked how you asked for an example about the Jane Austen thing. I did notice that you would use jargon and then explain the meaning right away. It makes me wonder why not just use the simple explanation and skip the jargon.

That's a great point about perhaps not needing to use the jargon if you're already defining it. I will say that as with communication in general it comes down to the purpose of the message and the audience. Using the jargon in lieu of the entire, often wordy explanation, can be a time saver because it's more succinct. So that would be a good reason. Additionally, someone might want to use the jargon when conversing with someone and so they define it so that this person will know what they're referring to when they use the jargon in future interactions with the person. Same goes for abbreviations :) hope this helps! Either way, using abbreviations or jargon, anything technical, really, needs to be defined at the get go so that the listener follows :)
