I almost cried at Mr. Robin sorting out the shed for Hamad and giving him the responsibility of taking care of the birds. Small human kindness goes a long way, eh.
Hamad is such an inspiration. Every single time he is interviewed, in spite of his situation, he still talks positively; about the joys in his simple everyday living, gratitude for his job, the trees, the birds, the roof over his head and continues to survive homelessness and still be responsible towards supporting his child. Good to see Robin Chua, Co-Founder of Bird Singing Club to reach out to him when he had to relocated due to complains. I hope Roselan get a second chance and hang in there for a new start to a better life. To Darius, I hope some good samaritan or mentor helps him grow as an individual who will take charge of his own life and live responsibly. National Service is great way to start and instil discipline in character. God bless!

The scene of the family siting around and sharing the pizza broke my heart. Amidst all their trials they maintained a positive outlook. The ‘birdman’ was a favourite of mine. So kind and gentle, a good soul.
this isn't a very empathetic way of thinking. mr tok does seem to need therapy and might have anxiety about his asthma and incurring further medical costs when he was already probably struggling physically being an elderly man with asthma, thus he might not want to take risks while already being in a rocky situation.
it doesn't matter, yes, Mr Hamad should get praise for doing so, but Mr Tok is older, has signs of anxiety, has asthma and medical problems, it might be tiring and unhealthy for him.

with so many empty factories, why not convert and let private operators run them as dorms and rental flats and not put elderly or distressed at the mercy of HDB which seems overloaded and working at snail pace? a 6months wait is a misery too long, a price of overpopulation and useless living a life here.

I think Mr Tok should also own up to some of the mistakes along the way that he created , through out the series he gave me the vibes that he is very self entitled which irks me
I don't get those who has nothing and still be concerned "face", especially while they also go begging for help. Anyway, "face" is something everyone should get over with as soon as possible, as it cause all sorts of unnecessary stress.
I'm glad that CNA has produced this documentary about this issue. I think there is a lot that Singapore can do to help those whom life has dealt a bad hand too. There's a lot that can be done for these people, chief of which is reviewing the process that it takes to rent a flat. I would presume that a one room flat would house, well, one person. Perhaps community centres could provide shelter for those in their community who are less fortunate. Isn't there supposed to be a ministry to deal with this issue? Anyway, I guess the big take away from this series is that sometimes, we, as the viewer, should learn to be thankful for the small things in our lives that we take for granted.
Excellent documentary series to highlight the situations faced by homeless people in Singapore. The homeless people in the video are still very optimistic about life despite their difficult circumstances. I hope that they will each find a good roof over their heads soon!
With all due respect I have no sympathy for Darius because he is still young and able to find a job with good pay instead of paying $400 a month playing arcade which is truly a waste of money considering his situation
Darius' next stop will likely be the free "changi chalet"... because when you are young and cannot see the wrong in your own way - likely will continue sliding down...
Yes, it appears he has got an attitude & ego problem. Probably he comes from a broken home lacking family love. He needs corrective measures, find a decent job, work hard and assimilate to society.
Really want to help Auntie Yeo and Susana. Hurts my heart to see them struggling like this, it is not difficult for Singaporeans to chip in a little to help them. CNA Insider should have provided some way for us to help the people they interviewed.
Those who do work often find themselves falling into financial hardship because when they earn more income, the price of HDB rental housing often goes up. This makes it difficult for them to accumulate any savings at all. Worse still, if a single mother starts working, subsidies drop on the assumption that she can immediately pay for all her children’s expenses but that doesn’t take into account the extra expenses necessary when working such as transport and meals.
Yah, I know of single mothers that work for small companies that asked that their OT be paid in cash and not recorded so as to not have their subsidies removed. End up some get cheated as its not recorded the company does not include it in their CPF contribution.

Good job CNA on bringing up the homeless issue numbers rising , I really hope this should be really looked into seriously because after the pendemic, the Singapore private rental market has gone up so much that in the foreseeable future, more and more low income group, unfortunate people cannot afford to buy an hdb flat at their old age or victims of family conflict would have housing problems! As Singaporeans who want to come back to Singapore for retirement, the skyrocketing real estate market and private rental market is really a push factor , not to talk about the global inflation problem and the economic recession issues!
Worker’s Party Daniel Goh shared his experience with the homeless in Singapore. The associate professor posted a photo of a void deck at a flat somewhere in Singapore and shared a tale of a homeless man who had temporarily sought refuge there. “I have searched and met a number of “homeless” persons while helping Mr Low with constituency work. A few residents see this as a municipal problem for the town council, the “homeless” an unwanted guest. Most feel sorry for those roughing it out in the elements but don’t know how to help them. It is a testimony that one stayed on long enough, as paramedics attended to a “homeless” man who fainted, to help me locate him later.”

Homeless is the global phenomenon. Providing shelters and daily need is only part of the solution which the welfare department have to be seriously engaged in. Various reasons for becoming homeless. Mostly financial problem caused by gambling, substance abuses, and family problems. Rehabilitation is also a part of the solutions that the tax must be allocated progressively. Having helpful volunteets is also a necessary solution. We will have more homeless people, and need more volunteers.

The Joint Single Scheme is not a practical one. HDB had to re-think this scheme. Not necessary that living together means that the 2 single persons would “take care” of each other.
It’s not a stupid idea, it so that these tenants do not get over comfortable in their rental flat that they do not try to get out or improve their current situation.
@@JL-jm7 what is wrong for a person to be comfortable as long as they can afford to pay the rent ? Even family members sometimes can't live together and you expect two strangers to live "comfortably" together ???
actually it's just whether you think from policy making perspective or from a humane perspective. Sadly policy makers are always in favour of 'lessening' problems for themselves. But I believe the sharing of units has become a problem big enough for them to start building rental housing with single room and shared facilities.
Reading the comments on this, I'm curious if many Americans are watching this. All the comments are so constructive and caring towards the people in these documentaries. I've watched all three of them and I have to say, it seems like it's a HELL of a lot easier to be a homeless person in Singapore than it is in the U.S! I guess it helps when they execute all the drug dealers and (probably) keep the mentally ill in hospitals where they get the help they need. (I mean, they do those things, right?) What do they do with the mentally ill people who can't take care of themselves? In the U.S they might put them in the hospital for two or three days at the most, then once they start to get the slightest bit functional again they kick them back out. In this country, if a person is not physically capable of taking care of their physical needs, even if they're not in a mental state to know that, and even if they're a danger to the public, they're basically left to die in the streets. I bet if an American social worker went to a place like Singapore and worked there, they'd probably feel like it was Heaven on earth. The problems of the people in this documentary seem like nothing, compared to what they have to deal with. This has really got me wondering about how Singapore deals with their mentally ill population.
I’m an American and I’m watching this in awe. It’s seem like they have more support workers for the homeless then homeless people themselves. The people are treated with dignity and don’t look anything like the homeless people in the US (i.e. they all look clean and well taken care of). I guess it also helps that Singapore has a small population and is not as spread out as the US so it’s easier to provide assistance.
@@Rafi88 None of these people really have drug problems or mental illnesses, though. That's what makes the difference. Singapore executes drug dealers. I'm not sure what they do with the people who just use the drugs. I think they put them in prison or forced rehab or something. I'd love to see a documentary on that. I think they just carte blanch, force every mentally ill person into the hospital too. So the only homeless people they're left with are the sane healthy ones, who just fell on hard times or made dumb financial decisions.
@@Rafi88Tbh all the males featured in this video are having stupid ego issues. There are thousands of much more well off people over here who would kill for a nearly free rental flat.
It is observed that most of these homeless arise from family problems or from broken homes that lack family love. The young ones do have some attitude & ego problems that needs corrective measures. They are healthy and should have no problem finding a decent job provided they are willing to sweat it out and work hard.
Homeless not from lack of trying In an article, the Asia Law Network (ALN) pointed out that many people in Singapore end up homeless not because they are ‘lazy’ or ‘unemployed’. They argue that many tend to fall into trouble due to tenancy disagreements, poorly managed finances, cheating and fraud, or a lack of understanding of their legal rights. ALN noted that the majority of people stuck in this difficult situation tend to be the elderly and those who are not highly educated. The thing is, the current system is less than effective in helping people like this out of a tough situation, particularly when it comes to securing a home. Finding a place to stay is rather difficult for some people.
Singapore is a very tough place to find a place to live given that there is very limited space and housing is mostly managed by the authorities. People cannot sublet or build their own houses like in other places, or move to the countryside (there is none). In a country where even a part of the local population lives in nearby Johor due to rental pressures, it's not easy at all. Singapore is an economic giant but people like these are casualties of growth.
and also rules for renting are too strict. sometimes i wonder whats with singapore trying to increase populstion and build house for that extra population when they can actually built more home and solve the homeless issue first. i know homelessness cases are case by case can be due to variety of reasons, but i mean there got to be some creative and innovative way rather than dumping two strqnger in one small one room flat. in korea they built a retirement place for the old unmarried people, and those who apply will have their own dorm fully furnished like a hotel room. it feels like home more than it feels like a retirement place. then they have like a huge field the retirees can spend time together as a community playing golf, or outdoor activities or indoor. may be instead of just building renting flats, they can consider building like a community place like old folks home but a more resort homely like style with dorms where people regardless old or middle age can apply whrrr there is no rules for their bacjground needed. is like booking a hoteland they dont wuestion ur background kinda thing. they think of similsr way like that. and i think these homeless people will feel happier and ease of mind and dont feel like outcsst in the society.
@@twinklestar8498 If you get married and have a child, renting is easy(just don't hit above certain sum.) The government do not want to waste land on building rental house for Single man and women as they want us to give birth. in Korea 50% of population is living at Seoul, which means there are lots of land for them to do what they do. Singapore don't have the luxury. It is easy to say just build rental house, but that will create more issue.
@@zhen86 I agreed. Land is just too limited, so planning is tight. There is no cheaper place like rural areas to get cheaper housing. So the Government needs to maximize land use to achieve growth.
Forget his name but he made a point at 11:32 mark. "The onus is on us to develop innovation shelters to accommodate these needs. Rather than saying, "no, we can't accommodate". This is something WP Candidate would say in parliament rather then it coming from a PAP perspective. Not taking sides, but there are simply too many regimental rules & regulation and stringent processes for those in needs. In Singapore context, coming from a lower income family or a person in needs wanting Government subsidiaries and assistance would require them to undergo certain process and ensure their the right candidate to receive the support. It's not like you can walk in to MSF centre any time and say help me. There are processes unfortunately. And a big lesson to all young adults out there - Marriage is a life time commitment. - Saying Divorce is easy - After divorce, you think its easy life going about finding a second lover or so. No, the aftermath is extremely messy with so many legal proceeding and trouble to find housing cause you have lesser subsidiaries & all the documents required for submission.
Some of the comments here are so utterly vicious and unnecessary. CNA is doing a good job and featuring why these group of vulnerable people is facing homeless issues in Singapore and the homeless people are courageous enough to be filmed and allow a walk through of their life. Being homeless does not mean that viewers have the right to alledged certain assumptions about them. And worse of all, attacking them maliciously online. Terrible beings. It shows the level of civilization of these viewers who also think they are self entitled individuals. Just shut up pls.
I will really like to see the whole interview CNA had with him. Is he the problem or is it editing. If it is not because of editing, that is like some Josephine in the position of Minister of Manpower.
@@nietanbeechin I don't think it was the editing. If it had been, you can be sure there would have been an complaint made. In any case, his words about young people, (to paraphrase), "just say sorry and go home" were out of his own mouth. It was also sadly naive and unaware that sometimes, a young person merely apologising is not the issue. It may well be the adult in the household - as was the case of Susana and her children.
@@LM-zn6wbAgree He is very arrogant the way he talk about younger people. Give me the impression like "parents always right, children always wrong". The way this advisor talk like typical officer with no EQ and poor understanding of human dynamics. And so many people have their own house, also die alone in recent years. Just because people in dire situation doesn't mean the rules have to make it harder for them to navigate just because someone personally think what they decided is good for them.
There are people like Hamad who are homeless but not homeless or rough sleeper with their strength & content. Proceed to help others who needed help in the truth of despair. This would be heartfelt responsibility on the truth for a good cause on the majority of today's homeless!
I think they were trying to highlight the complexities behind homelessness, and it definitely showed. The household with the allegedly abusive father, and also the elder gentlemen with is divorce and drug issues. I don't know if past substance abuse issues come up during the application process, and not saying they should be given preferential treatment; but seems like it should probably be taken into account when assigning through potential housing units.
"Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love." - Gandalf the Grey, the Hobbit.
To the people who commented about Darius spending time & money at the video arcade. It could be that when Darius is playing video games, it helps to find normalithv as a young person. In an arcade, he's just another teenager who enjoys car video games. Who perhaps imagine actually driving a nice car in the future. Yes, spending that amount is a lot, but playing video games can also help a person to relax & think things through about life. He is still young & tbh, I probably would do the same if I was in that situation. It's not wise to judge a person on how they take on life situations, especially when it may not have been taught or shown. Finding a way by yourself without family support is very hard. There's also a lot of emotional baggage as well. Never underestimate someone by just watching a UA-cam video. I was homeless at an older age & had to learn a lot of life skills & it took me many years to learn (& still learning) on how to look after myself & manaeveryday finances. This was without family support. I tell you what, it was hard, but I kept at it & in a better situation now. Other people around me who were homeless unfortunately had a lesser understanding of everyday life skills because of their personal circumstances. To Darius, if you are reading this, I wish you all the best in finding stable accommodation & pursuing your dream. It may be really hard, but please don't give up. Never underestimate your abilities. Instead of getting frustrated at the negative side, just keep learning those lifestyles you need to learn.Eat well, sleep well, daily fitness & routine. Most of all, look after your mental health. You can make it. It's so worth it once you make those small steps. Celebrate those small successes. Allow yourself time to be upset, but try to double that upset time to making positive steps. Trust might be difficult too, which you may be question on your path to your goal. Unfortunately, this does happen throughout this process. Some things you just can't control. Try to deal with this the best way you can.
ngl, if only its possible, it would be for him to save up, and get a laptop. so technically he can play games with his friends, learn stuff, and less financially taxing in the long run this would alsohelp to teach him about managing his finances
@Zi Hwee surely going to the library or community centres would have public access to computers or community based lessons for understanding finances.etc I'm not too sure on what it's like there, because I'm from Australia & was able to access computers at these types of places. Actually, it's quite often many people without homes go there. When I was homeless, I had a small notebook & pencil. It was good to look through it for references to what I'd spent on food so I could work out what to buy or to see what donated food I had and then work out what extra food to buy. Even planning my days, write notes or reminders on housing appointments or details to pick up free donated food. I still have it & read through it every so often for old time sake. It helps me see through current struggles I'm having & motivates me.
Darius has a GF(as he claims) He is entering NS soon which mean he is 18. To tell the the truth, no one knows why his parents kick him out. However when his godfather kick him out after 6 month's, there must be some issue about him that he don't want to say. He go back shelter as and when he wants like it is his house that he bought. He has no respect of rules, I believe in NS he will get in lots of trouble. As long as he is willing to change and serve ties with the "gangsters" his parents will accept him back to Family if it is just not obeying curfew and being with wrong group as he claims.
All have "happy" ending except Mr.Tok. Lesson learned: personality is the key to get out from misery of life. If Mr.Tok keep being entitled, he still gonna end up in same problem all over again.
Mr Tok keeps using his asthma as an excuse to avoid doing things he doesn't want to do. Which is BS. I have family who have very bad asthma, it doesn't stop them from doing things. Mr Hamid is such a positive and cheerful man. He has so much gratitude in his life. I'm sure he is beloved by many viewers here. I hope he can get a place of his own, where he can also live alone.
I think what this "Darius" guy really needs is not a shelter, but counseling or therapy. He clearly has mental issue. He needs a therapist to fix his mindset, his rebellious behavior, his anger issue. Or else, he wouldn't change at all and would be falling into worse situation. When he had no more job to earn that $500 every month, big chance he would start doing petty crimes to earn money like stealing or selling illegal drugs.

HDB’s rules, I believe is to have no loopholes in their policy but at the same time, it becomes so inflexible that it really hinders those genuine cases. HDB, like this how?
Hdb is dark Many discrepancies but sweep under carpet!! Don't act on genuine cases Don't help those really in need Keep on delaying for years and even overlooked your concerns
remember that HDB is for all of Singapore and not just cases like these. If they start making exceptions for people then everyone find lobang to get HDB. It has to be inflexible by necessity.
yeah and u noe some elderly who rent on open market and use the address did not enttile or entitled for lower silver scheme or gst becos the add of the house say 4 room or 5 room flat, they be regarded as ppl who live with income of that household. which in reality the person is actually homeless.
HDB is a very inefficient branch of government in all areas. Even normal people buy and sell flats already take unnecessarily long time to process with lame document requirements. Day-to-day complaints that fall under HDB jurisdiction even more don’t need to say, no replies for years one. So no surprise this is even worse. Guess they’re having a hard time balancing their “transparency” rules with over-enforcement.
Very sad to see older persons to be homeless! Society needs to help elders in situations like this. I love the volunteer group that tries to help but there needs to be free senior housing especially for those over 70 years!
Sometimes a person may think its a better solution yet fail to read the situation in its entirety. Very similar approach from many bad managements I've seen. New problem? > New rule to follow. Unable to fit in? > Get out of here. Rigidity at its best. Useless when helping such a complicated social issue.
I am happy Mr. Hamad has a place with a roof over his head. Ms. Yeo is so easy to please. I can't believe these people are old and handicapped but they still find work. At least the Singapore government is trying to help them and there are volunteers to help. In the U.S. they just do sweeps and throw away their possessions and expect them to disappear and take care of themselves. I still think Mr. Tok should go back to the Philippines. He has a house and his daughter is there. Roseland seems very sketchy to me. I don't trust him and the people he hangs with seem sketch too. Darius is a hard head. I don't think he will make it in the army at all.
Really sad to so many cases happened from being divorced. Is it necessary to go scorch earth and destroy the other party savings? or its just a bad idea to divorce after 50? In any case being single is definitely not easy in Singapore.
As Indonesian tourist i'm surprised when walking from lavender station to hj fatimah mosque in the morning met ten of elderly peoples sleep at the garden and hdb terrace.
I genuinely hope the pilot (former hostel) rental scheme does well. I know the public in general were unhappy, saying the accommodation is too shabby, but I do think it is a decent idea because the individuals get to have their own private space but at the same time have a sort of communal setting where people will notice if something were to happen to an individual. But I also wonder what's with the long processing times to choose a flat. I can understand the 4 week process, perhaps it is to do deeper background checks to ensure that the individual has exhausted all avenues of finding a roof over their heads but 8 months too choose a flat is honestly too long. Is it purposely that long in hopes that it will weed out individuals who have other means of seeking accommodation? Or is it due to supply issues in rental flats? If it isn't a supply issue, I genuinely hope that the HDB could review the processes to speed things up for the people who need a place to stay.

Strange that they don’t show the worsts of them. Those homeless with alcohol problems that rather spent their money on booze and then purposely take shelter at the hospitals and caused problems there. I once saw a homeless guy being hospitalised and having alcohol problems. At the hospital, he is so drunk that instead of going to the toilet, he just turn to his side and urinate on the floor at the side of his bed without thinking of the patient in the bed next to him. Not only the bad smell of the urine, the poor patient next to him could fall down since the floor is slippery. Another time I saw another guy yelling vulgarities and spitting at a healthcare worker. I’m pretty sure this documentary can easily find people like this to interview. Just give them booze money for their time.
1:55 he doesnt take responsibility AT ALL. HES the one who punched him 3 times, he only has himself to blame for getting kicked out of the shelter, the other man even tried to make things better when he didnt have to
And the one who got punched said sorry to the man who punched him ? And after all the incident, the man who kicked the other one out still wanted to be friend with him ? I could only guessed its a wrongly accused case.
I agreed on innovative shelters rather than keep forcing on current polices..policies can be more flexible right. I think they are not asking much just son privacy and less conflicts.
It's quite disheartening to hear what some of them had to go through in their lives. Even more disheartening to hear what they have to go through in the system to get support. Often those who are in position to come up with social welfare policies and services do not consider the circumstances of homeless people, and also homeless people also have dignity and deserved privacy. It's true that the root problems for homeless people can be complicated to resolved, but many of their basic needs are not difficult to be met.

Hamad is such an inspiration. The scene of the family siting around and sharing the pizza broke my heart. Amidst all their trials they maintained a positive outlook.
The ‘birdman’ was a favourite of mine. So kind and gentle, a good soul.
Mr Hamad carried a whole ass chair with no complain , Mr Tok making a fuss to push his own luggage . Literally speechless
this isn't a very empathetic way of thinking. mr tok does seem to need therapy and might have anxiety about his asthma and incurring further medical costs when he was already probably struggling physically being an elderly man with asthma, thus he might not want to take risks while already being in a rocky situation.
i don't think it's fair to compare, since comparison is mindless at best and selfish at worst. just a different perspective!
it doesn't matter, yes, Mr Hamad should get praise for doing so, but Mr Tok is older, has signs of anxiety, has asthma and medical problems, it might be tiring and unhealthy for him.
Mr Tok seems to feel entitled. Hats off to his social worker which is so patient and kind.

There is not enough flats to go around for people to rent.
Homeless not from lack of trying
In an article, the Asia Law Network (ALN) pointed out that many people in Singapore end up homeless not because they are ‘lazy’ or ‘unemployed’.
Darius the young kid deserve no respect from a proper adult. Even his god father don't want him after 6 months, which say a lot about him.
and also rules for renting are too strict. sometimes i wonder whats with singapore trying to increase populstion and build house for that extra population when they can actually built more home and solve the homeless issue first. i know homelessness cases are case by case can be due to variety of reasons, but i mean there got to be some creative and innovative way rather than dumping two strqnger in one small one room flat. in korea they built a retirement place for the old unmarried people, and those who apply will have their own dorm fully furnished like a hotel room. it feels like home more than it feels like a retirement place. then they have like a huge field the retirees can spend time together as a community playing golf, or outdoor activities or indoor. may be instead of just building renting flats, they can consider building like a community place like old folks home but a more resort homely like style with dorms where people regardless old or middle age can apply whrrr there is no rules for their bacjground needed. is like booking a hoteland they dont wuestion ur background kinda thing. they think of similsr way like that. and i think these homeless people will feel happier and ease of mind and dont feel like outcsst in the society.

And a big lesson to all young adults out there
- Marriage is a life time commitment.
- Saying Divorce is easy
- After divorce, you think its easy life going about finding a second lover or so. No, the aftermath is extremely messy with so many legal proceeding and trouble to find housing cause you have lesser subsidiaries & all the documents required for submission.

In any case, his words about young people, (to paraphrase), "just say sorry and go home" were out of his own mouth.

@Jacktakashii Jack thank you. 😊. I've been through a lot. I really hope Darius gets through this difficult time.
ngl, if only its possible, it would be for him to save up, and get a laptop. so technically he can play games with his friends, learn stuff, and less financially taxing in the long run
this would alsohelp to teach him about managing his finances
@Zi Hwee surely going to the library or community centres would have public access to computers or community based lessons for understanding finances.etc
I'm not too sure on what it's like there, because I'm from Australia & was able to access computers at these types of places.
If Mr.Tok keep being entitled, he still gonna end up in same problem all over again.
darius person is obviously trying to sweet talk his way through his girlfriend and her family. this sounds sociopathic. please don't fall for it.
That Mr Tok complained too much
I think what this "Darius" guy really needs is not a shelter, but counseling or therapy.
He has a so called mentor that is helping him.
After seeing these 3 episodes, and seeing all the Chao Kuan.😂... I salute all social workers and admire their patience. They r the heroes in this series.
Mad respect to these social workers as most of the cases they deal with are for people that can’t make decent decisions 😂
Hope opposition supporters dont anyhow blame pap😊
@@jon8697I think more people in the middle-ground are turned off by people like you than anyone else.
HDB’s rules, I believe is to have no loopholes in their policy but at the same time, it becomes so inflexible that it really hinders those genuine cases. HDB, like this how?
Hdb is dark
Many discrepancies but sweep under carpet!!
Don't act on genuine cases
Don't help those really in need
Keep on delaying for years and even overlooked your concerns
remember that HDB is for all of Singapore and not just cases like these.
I watch all 3 episodes and honestly, this Lee Kim Hua irritates me the most. Talking BS and act as if he got all the solutions.
hahaha~ couldn't agree more~ 😂😂
You look at him one look you know he is former SAF regular. Got that guai lan face. :)
How this unempathetic douche became the director of MSF really baffles me.
He's just a boomer who can't empathize
Great documentary. I esp like Mrs Yeo and Mr Hamad. Very positive personality.
I see this different. My privacy is the most important to me. As me also being very sick, i believe those people needs their privacy most of all.
No money still want privacy. Eh stop being entitled ah can anot
this darius jolly well sign on in the army, decent salary, free food & lodging
Provided army wants someone like him
You hope he can hack army discipline. He doesn't even want to adhere to a 10.30 curfew.
I do hope the government can speed up the process for help these homeless people,I don't understand why it take few months to few years to process
They don't care to see the urgency
Prolonged homelessness cause more health issues
Tok seems like the kind of person no one can get along with.
5:18 I agree! Staying with someone is safer but oftentimes it's hard for two aged persons to accomodate to each other😅
Mmmm. Life is tough .
End of 2023
Then open for application
Ya
No urgency at all
Prolonging homelessness
Worse than some ang moh prison.
No own toilet, no space to stretch. Toilet no need very big one lor. Just look at those van homes or small yatch.
Gahmen give 2x5m but 2.5x5m can fit toilet alr. N got some stretch space. Best is still 3x4m. Also smaller than current 1rm rental.
@@RonLarhz it is after all a repurposed dorm, I don't think they have the budget and/or time for further reconstruction. So think of it more as a room to have a comfortable rest and other areas in the building for you to 'stretch' and perhaps even socialise or chill at.
Of course more can always be done but at least it is moving in the right direction in the sense that they recognise that more people wish to live alone rather than pair up with a stranger for the joint singles rental scheme and squeezing 2 people in a 1 room flat.
@@skyescene21
Edit: the transitional home is close to what I was saying.
Old/abandoned hdb repurposed. Should be smthg like the family trio kind. each applicant get own room. And those old, larger hdb room is big enough to install a small ensuite toilet.
@@RonLarhz are you serious ? Entitlement is through the roof .
Maybe hdb can come up with a partitioned old flat rather that force on joint single policy.
Wonderful documentary. As in it let me keep want to see more.
Doubt those cases you want to see will give consent
This documentary is about helping people out of being homeless. Not those hopeless cases you mentioned.
Entitlement is through the roof .
25:51 "Apparently I'm very charming...😎" + comedy SFX = comedy gold.
Fantastic series. One commonality for most of the cases.... `divorce '....
It's true that the root problems for homeless people can be complicated to resolved, but many of their basic needs are not difficult to be met.
now than u know. so many stinkaporeans just see pappy wayang and all clap hands. never go thru the system b4 dun even know how taichi and unhelpful they are. those policies makers living in bunglows and condos just shake legs and write nonsense or get other people to write then approve. as long as 61% get their holiday trips who the fk care about the less privileged right?🙄
Entitlement is through the roof . Students have right to privacy . Oooops . Even at best universities they usually have to share rooms in dorms .
My daughter with serious health issues worked since age 15 went to school and graduated I am failing to understand why mother and kids are not actively working. Why a 81 year old has to work but 68 year old “asthmatic” thinks because he exists he gets to hit and lie and a birdman thinks he should be given what he wants? Entitlement seems as if its a major pandemic !
That Tok is rubbish. Only want Crane lifter job.
Mr Hamad i agree but he has 2 wife. At least he keep himself clean & doesn't nag at other. Was even appreciative towards the social staff providing a proper roof even if it not a house.
Meanwhile Tok just want his way only
@@tommyfield8449 You will get complained by neighbours as a regular HDB owner if you had noisy birds or any noisy activity at all too, not sure why the birdkeeper thinks he is so special
My comment was removed when I asked whether Singapore didn’t think that an 81 year old woman had worked enough in her life.
Well said!!!
Government should provide free shelter to all the homeless
They are singaporean
Government should be support them. It wont take a lot of funding
This documentary is really awesome!
It's very concerning that so many elderly people are homeless. Are there not Old Age Homes available for them? We have them my side of the world. They are usually small bachelor type houses or flats. Do the elderly also not receive a state pension?
Army can change darius attitude and discipline and his character to become a better person. Good luck in your bmt.
16:46 He has a health issue with drugs and he has to pay money to his ex-wife? When he couldn`t afford, she takes his retirement savings from his CPF? 45:10, it`s rental and rental flats not purchased flats as the latter is a longer lease.
Everyone is special, including the homeless. They have acquired preferences & it takes determination to change or give up eg, bird rearing or neatness.
It's difficult to place fair judgement
No money don't talk lil bro
Honestly no sympathy for Tok really. All he does is just to whine and expects things to be done for him. Beggers can't be choosers. The social worker really needs to be appreciated for being so patient and kind to him.
Sometimes the comment section here is really a s***show - people passing judgement on those people here, viewing them only from the perspective of these edits made my CNA. If anything, one has to remember that these people are humans, and one must extend understanding and compassion to them.
So before you guys go on to make comments like ‘oh, so and so is so XYZ’, take a moment and think before writing such nasty comments that can be read by the people themselves.
I only judge the Young punk.
after watched all 3 episodes, i can not imagine if this happens in Indonesia. i just can't.
Mr Tok seems to be more on the wrong side even he admit that he showed his fist at Roselan, but Roselan still make the first move by apologising to him n show care towards Mr Tok
Apologised and "show care" towards to Mr Tok after kicking him out of the shelter ? I wondered, would anyone accept the apology and still be "friend" if the "same thing" happens to them ?
Don't cock so much lah. If you Mr tok i think you would wanna punch the fellow for being so fake hor, talk is cheap lah use your brain can anot stupid
Seems like Roslan is the one that is not easy to get along with.
He ex prisoner, in prison u life so discipline, what u aspect? he is used to living like that, now he want forget about the past, working hard to get out of homelessness
