I was studying to be an Actuary, Now I’m a Software Engineering assistant at the Vegas Strip in one of their casino hotels Next year I expect to be promoted and make $80K a year
@@EtchedActuarial yes since you are involved in the risk selection process and establishing premium rate levels you are closely related and attached to the pricing department. So it could also be a good career choice for those who are looking for alternative without going too far away from pricing
Hello. My son is a junior in HS. He is thinking of taking the path of being an acctuarial. What can you recommend for a major? Is it better to go straight to acctrual science or another route? Thank you so much!
My top pick is definitely majoring in actuarial science. If your son is 100% decided, then actuarial science is the best choice. I had a video where I ranked the best degrees you can take if you want to become an actuary. You can check it here: ua-cam.com/users/shortsIl3nDavnBiQ?si=MV2PlzFVAfjZQHw7 Hope this helps! 🙂
Hi Roberto! Quantitative analysis could be a backup option. FRM isn't my area of expertise, but I do have an article covering the differences between SOA and CAS (including salary) which you can see here: etchedactuarial.com/cas-vs-soa/#:~:text=SOA%20vs.,%2C%20health%2C%20pensions%20and%20retirement.
Hi! Let's say that I went the SOA path and ended up becoming a Fellow and worked in Health Insurance. Would it be possible to get a P&C Actuary job? Or would you have to go through CAS?
I am an actuary and I work as data scientist.
Option 1 - Business Intelligence Analyst
Option 2 - Marketing Research Director
Option 3 - Cryptographer

1/3 of my acturial class went on to become business analysts
That's very interesting! Analytical skills are definitely applicable to both careers.
Cryptographer seems more difficult to get into than actuarial science I guess. I would say cryptographer's back plan could be actuary lol.
Thanks for this. Great insight. I'm a Fellow exploring alternative career paths.
So glad I could help! Wishing you luck!
I worked in group insurance underwriting for a large insurer and most employees and management had either Math and actuarial degrees
Huh, that's so interesting! Thanks for sharing your experience, Jeremy!

I just wonder if you can officially work as an actuary in the sports industry. Otherwise, I'd like to work in sports analytics.
I think there is opportunity there, and if you have really good technical skills it is easily transferable to other analytical roles.
thanks for making this.
You're welcome Rob!

What about the difference in salary of SOA or CAS vs FRM, also a quant career could be a backup??

It's probably not impossible but unlikely. Most people stick to one path after their first job.
How about a hedge fund manager? Is that a possibility
It is possible but there might be additional credentials you have to complete.
What can I do graduating out from a statistics major?
Hi, fan from india👍🏻, helpful video👍🏻
India does not exist
Thanks for watching!
You just reinforced reasons to undertake it as an entrepreneur
Glad I could help! :)
