it will be boring for neutruals but not for proper united fans who loves watching football in his true form, truly deserved win for us imo, no smash and grab win.
Mazroui is mint. That’s the type of players we need. That’s why I’d sell Dalot. He’s not horrible but he’s just not suited for the wing back role in my opinion. If we had another mazroui on the other side it would be amazing.
I also think the reason the space wasn't exploited earlier is Amorim is spending more time teaching the players how to play and not enough time exploiting individual teams. He only did so in game and in the second half, I think this is what we'd see more often until the squad is ready.
He has to teach the players and learn from them at the same time. It's a mutual thing. The squad has to learn his system and he has to learn how they fit into that system. That means a lot of experimentation. Had he come in earlier, that would have happened in the preseason friendlies. But as it is, it has to happen in the league. Of course, at the same time, he has to consider results and try and earn united some more places up the table, so he's being a bit safe in the first halves of matches and seeing what happens and then adapting things once they come in for half time. He gets them playing safe sensible football in line with his system, so they learn to manage all the various problems they might have, and then he's pushing the weaknesses he identifies afterwards. It's a very creditable approach, and one that is clearly working quite well so far, despite the fundamental awkwardness of Amorim's situation coming into the side.
sky reporter on the match (a known arsenal fan) was saying he only fouled or made backwards passes all game. Hes been great for weeks and getting next to 0 recgnition no one is talking about uniteds shots faced anymore and its literally happened since hes come into the team.
I think people need to give amad more credit for that pen… he quickly realised he had no options, and also realised he was outside the box, he slightly ball rolled forward and stopped, kept the ball on his left side and baited the pen. His footballing IQ is up there and United need more players like this.
Direct passes are the bane of highlines! Because the line is set-up to play the off-side trap a through ball takes the entire line out of play, or at least it forces them all as a unit to run back..

I'll get pelters for this but there's a kernel of truth in it: Pep has always been a clever cloggs who has relied on having the best players in the world buying into his ideas. Not saying he's a fraud at all, but it's a weakness in his management. He's overthought it again today like we've seen 100 other times.
I understand what you’re saying and there are certainly areas to criticize Pep but having the best players in the world buy into your ideas = managerial gold dust.
@@jamesmccaul2945 pep buys a player for 50m and if they don't perfectly fit what he tries to do he bins them off for another 50m player. its not about buying into ideas, he has a profile in his head and will spend 100s of millions until he gets it. thats not being a good manager thats being a good coach.
@@jamesmccaul2945 For sure, it's about the only way to go and win a treble, as no amount of luck can get you that far. But it's also a position of remarkable vulnerability. If things stop going your way it can be very hard to recover and get them working, especially if the players have already won it all and don't have much new to achieve.
Pep is comfortably the best manager in the world. You’re reading far too much into a bad run and some random UA-camr who’s never managed a game if football in his life And I can’t stand pep or city
United are having a lot of the ball but not doing much in the first half of games but then they’re creating chances in the second halves.. Shows Amorim is adapting mid game which is understandable, new team, new league, new oppositions etc.. It’ll take a while for United to get going, probably next season at the earliest. I know possession is an irrelevant stat but United are having tons of it under Amorim, to go to the Etihad in his 7th game and have over 50% possession until the last 10 or so minutes is impressive, especially when it’s topped off with a win.
That’s when I knew United will win the game. I have never seen Coty defend 1 goal like that against any team. They will hammer you every chance they get. United ball possession even without creating chances was really good. Soon they will understand and with a creative player they will score more goals and dominate of everything goes to plan.
he just binned off hojlund who was useless and brought on zirkzee. important because ole told us all the recipe to beat city with martial and a striker dropping deeper to link up and create space.
United are passing the ball much more crisply. As James says, the vision is defo not there much of the time. But it’s much faster and more accurate. We r still shite, bt this has been a visible improvement.
Your observation about the game happening on one side of the pitch is a good one. At the start of the second half, Bernardo Silva got the ball and I wasn't sure if he'd been brought on at half time?
United played one more direct ball that isn't showing on the pass map. It was the ball to Hojlund where he got taken down by Dias (make of the pen what you will, stonewall for me). Almost accentuates the point you're making. Hojlund makes those runs all the time too.
Personally i think City's biggest problem is their manager refusing to use the players from the Academy...its absolutely criminal how Pep in 8 years has only promoted 1 player to become a first team regular despite their Academy consistently performing at the highest level
Something that Amorim does all the time. He manages to get the best out of players, as he did with Gyokeres, who had been discarded by the premier league and exploded this season at Sporting Portugal, having lots of the big european clubs chasing him, Ugarte was coached by him there as well before getting Man U interested in him. Some of his kids were Matheus Nunes (City), Palhinha (Fullham), Nuno Mendes (PSG), etc.
You know, I really think the formation leaks wasnt coincidence. It was intentional all along. Pep went all out that night and forgot to put someone who could actually defend. Because we had both Maguire and De Ligt at the same time, they thought we were going to defend completely. We did, and it was a boring game, but we have Amad Diallo in his potential position to play. After all, Pep's time is really over at City. He had to save his last formula for England (I hope). Respect to the greatest coach of all time
Nice to hear a neutral fan compliment Mazraoui. Fella cost virtually nothing, especially by United’s standards and is constantly dropping 7-8/10 performances each game. Just a reliable steady player with near perfect decision making
Playing Doku wide right would have made a big difference as Dialo doesn't like being up against a quick right footer and it would have stretched the pitch for city
Before the penalty, with how city was playing, I called a bozo moment to happen in the last few minutes. With the Man City of old, that would never happen, but they’re so bereft of confidence that Pep needs to adapt their game late in games and just drop them back a few metres to see games out.
United have a template with Amorim. They are more structured, more comfortable on the ball and are smarter. They need to learn to be braver on the ball getting through the lines
You can't blame Nunez for the last goal, because he also had to track Antony in the wide side. The main fault was Pep's formation, because he was too confident to play only 1 CB. Givradol played as a CDM. This is very risky.
But for sure you can blame him for the first one, I don't even know why he's on the right side of the field when he was supposed to play left, where is Walker ? And at the start of this action it was a City's corner, City was on the attack and they kept playing backward again and again until that Nunes double mistake. 80 min with 10 min to left if you want to defend and are unable to attack put 1 defender on the pitch, Stones was on the bench. Pep didn't react.
@@jansobieski3127 I'm agree about his first fault, but I just want to emphasize on that the way Pep formatted in the game was very terrible. Teams cannot play only 1 CB, and other CB press like a CDM. If he want to play like that, the LB should be a LB or at least of left-footed CB, instead of a CM. From Amorim's post-match interview, you can see that he didn't think about a chance to overtun Arsenal, but he saw it in the MC match, because Arsenal played 2 CB in the line. Another example, Sloth's Liverpool is playing at least 2 CB, and Arnold play as pressing CDM. Never seen, 1 CB press too high.
@@nguyenquangtan3320 this is why I m saying why you keep Stones on the bench, at the 80th min you can feel that City is not going to score a 2nd goal and even if United are bad they re pushing more and more, make a change, bring back Stones on the field and play with 4 real defenders, change Foden for Stones. Guardiola didn't do that, he's just watching things and he's not acting, I don't know what he's doing, probably praying and excpecting United to be that bad and the score to stay at 1-0, but nope, Nunes fu***ed up the game. I m really asking myself about Guardiola, now he's more a spectator rather than a coach being able to make changes and adapt to the flow of the game.
@@jansobieski3127 he prepared letting Stones step into the pitch, right before the penalty. You can saw that. Actually, I've just rechecked his choices from bench, like what ETH facing last season, only kids fullfil the bench.

I’ve figured it out. Pep signed a new deal to get him self sacked or moved on (they’d never publicly sack him) to get the payout. Why leave for free when he can get a retirement pot 🤔
City have had this flaw for the past few games. Just look at the last few games with how the likes of Juve switch the ball across to get at Lewis who was previously playing the inverted fullback during that defensive transition. Seeing the United line up it did look too defensive imo (even though I back Amorim's decision to drop the wingers who haven't shown the form, mentality and energy Amorim - and previous managers - will want from their team). City without Rodri just look vulnerable, there's no swiftness with their attacking transitions and without him there to break up plays & read danger, they're too often. Aging defence playing high up to try to compress the space between the midfield & defence. Pep shouldn't be sacked as he's proven his pedigree and ability to fix issues over time, but his team is currently broken with how it transitions, there's just no real fail safe with Walker no longer having the raw pace, Rodri, etc. A big shakeup is needed with City
Me on the other hand, dont need to be salty and both of you gusy are shit rn. Man city bsd 1-0 turned into a man united 2-1 messy win. Congrats tho 💀@Jcrispyboy12
Amorim was very Animated and frustrated with the round pass he was telling dem to play forward for a long time n they wouldn't until that moment that led to the goal.
Idk why City keeps going to Doku when all Doku does is dribble and then lose the ball. There was even a time when I felt he lost confidence and just waited to get subbed off. Nunes is a disaster as well; there are signs earlier of Nunes making mistakes, and then the shi hut the fan.
So Nowadays people just add Random Arrows on a Video thumbnail, go on to justify a single standout irregular moment and use it to Say that it is the Reason one Team Beat Another ! Just UA-cam Pundits Doing their things !
very well done in capturing the oceans of space in citys defensive transitions. its been like this for weeks and Pep hasnt adjusted at all. really takes away from him being concidered as one of, if not the best manager of all time imo.

I was sat next to my mates in the pub, and i shit you not the moment Nunes gave that penalty away, I said to one of them "United are going to win this, City are about to collapse here" we've already seen it in the last few weeks, something goes wrong then their heads go, Rodri papered over so many cracks in that side, a few examples Kyle Walker's finished, Ilkay Gundogan can't run anymore, Kevin De Bruyne isn't the KDB of 2/3years ago anymore, and there's others I could name, add to that the confidence we're used to seeing simply isn't there
Palmer could've been the perfect understudy to KDB. Instead they let him go. Silly.
@kingflynxi9420 yep, eventually a midfield of Rodri, Palmer and Foden
Mazraoui is soooo good 🤩
Form is temporary, class is permanent: he's always, always on his game. Class player

@@bazingacurta2567in 2023 yes that’s a year ago, where were you going with this 😭

it will be boring for neutruals but not for proper united fans who loves watching football in his true form, truly deserved win for us imo, no smash and grab win.
What tool do you use for your tactics board/illustrations James? Is it available for others to use?
Mazroui is mint. That’s the type of players we need. That’s why I’d sell Dalot. He’s not horrible but he’s just not suited for the wing back role in my opinion. If we had another mazroui on the other side it would be amazing.
That pass from Martinez and the control from amad ahhhhhh absolute cinema ❤❤❤
… and we weren’t even at the theatre of dreams !
And the positioning of Mainoo to bait Gvardiol should be mentioned as well.
14:34 The beautiful description of what the defender should do to the next slide of ‘he decided to clatter him’ cracked me up
I also think the reason the space wasn't exploited earlier is Amorim is spending more time teaching the players how to play and not enough time exploiting individual teams.

Thanks for recognizing Ugarte

AMAD
Enjoyable game that was. the energy, the effort, the desire was all therem GGMU
Bernardo silva has to be City’s 100 touch man in Rodris absence
I think people need to give amad more credit for that pen… he quickly realised he had no options, and also realised he was outside the box, he slightly ball rolled forward and stopped, kept the ball on his left side and baited the pen. His footballing IQ is up there and United need more players like this.
what is the name of the website he is using to create the formations
Direct passes are the bane of highlines! Because the line is set-up to play the off-side trap a through ball takes the entire line out of play, or at least it forces them all as a unit to run back..
There was no real tactical masterclass. The credit goes to Amad for showing grit and game IQ to capitalize on two moments.
Was an amorim masterclass you rival hater
Guardiola and his players choked in the last minutes LMAO. It was a gift from the bald fraud@@ShaquilleOatmeal730
@@ShaquilleOatmeal730Lol, what?
If this was Amorim masterclass, you'll be closer to relegation than European places at the end of season. City was once again atrocious, and ManU is still most definitely a work in progress.
@@ShaquilleOatmeal730 what masterclass ? Nunes don't act like an idiot and City wins 1-0 and no Amorim masterclass at all, Amorim has nothing to do with this win, it's City players stupidity
This narrative is lazy and misleading, basically admitting surface level understanding
Pep is comfortably the best manager in the world.
You’re reading far too much into a bad run and some random UA-camr who’s never managed a game if football in his life
And I can’t stand pep or city

Hindsight is a great thing. Coulda shouda wouda.
Your observation about the game happening on one side of the pitch is a good one. At the start of the second half, Bernardo Silva got the ball and I wasn't sure if he'd been brought on at half time?
What software are you using
for these reviews?
I want to be able to do this on my channel but cannot figure out what software this is
Mazroui raised Uniteds technical floor. Glad it’s being recognised
excellent analysis....tankhs mate
United need to play more of those through balls
I saw it written somewhere that it took Oasis to reform again to remind City of their default settings like they were back in the nineties😂
It brings me absolute joy to say it. Man City were rubbish.
Excellent analysis. Thanks
Oilchester parked the bus after they scored
Even Haaland was clearing balls in his own box
These videos are class.
Playing Doku wide right would have made a big difference as Dialo doesn't like being up against a quick right footer and it would have stretched the pitch for city
Doku was Mazraoui’s man at RWB though
Wjat tactics board does he use?
He really exposed Man City having Stones And Rodri out.
I simply can not fathom why Nunes played at left back when they had stones and Gvadiol available
Bro, I like your work. However, this analysis is obviously not well thought through. I know you might want to seize the moment and get the views from the trending topics. Nonetheless, we the tactical geeks don't necessarily feed off of the excitement following a match but the brilliance behind it. Take your time, champ!
I’ve figured it out. Pep signed a new deal to get him self sacked or moved on (they’d never publicly sack him) to get the payout. Why leave for free when he can get a retirement pot 🤔
How can you call that game boring?
Like ur energy ❤️
It's Amad world

I have a conspiracy theory, I think City is throwing the league to avoid/build up an argument against the 115 situation
Amorim was very Animated and frustrated with the round pass he was telling dem to play forward for a long time n they wouldn't until that moment that led to the goal.
Mac City cheated in the game and there were 115 seconds between Man Utd’s 1st and 2nd goal. I love that 😂😂
Debryne was woefull in this game. Not a single proper cross.
What reason do City have to purposefully drop points? Only explanation, but it doesn't make sense..
Idk why City keeps going to Doku when all Doku does is dribble and then lose the ball. There was even a time when I felt he lost confidence and just waited to get subbed off. Nunes is a disaster as well; there are signs earlier of Nunes making mistakes, and then the shi hut the fan.
Doku is so bad just like nunez
Is it down to pep or Amorim?

Why did Man City buy Nunes?
City played sporting a few years ago and Pep called him one of the best players in the world. Doesn't fit his system though
the "free" space he is talking about is completely normal in transition attacks against a high line he talks like you should have prevented the free space hahahah

No surprise, City won 4 PL in a row and a treble playing with a high defensive line an giving the opposition team runs from behind. The problem is the defense is playing well and also there is no central defensive midfielder to help the defense.

Let's not forget that Amad Diallo never does what he does if MASON MOUNT doesn't get injured. Unless you want to believe that Amorim purposely started MASON MOUNT knowing he was going to get injured and he would be forced to move Diallo up into the front 3 just to confuse City. Yeah right. Kudos to Diallo, but if Mount doesn't get hurt, Diallo is stuck out as a wingback playing defense part time.
Mazraoui was playing rwb for the whole game, Amad was always in the right side attacking position?
@ I stand corrected. Perhaps then Amorim will retain him there instead of wasting him at WB.
9 out of 10 games, Man United lose this clash. They were opportunistic and took their chances, but they’re still continue to be pretty bad.
Ten Hag's United beat City in the fa cup final. That's 8 in 10. Probably even less in future fixtures.
50:50 possession, equal on shots taken, greater xG because of better opportunities created. And United lose 9 out of 10 times? Hojlund should’ve got a penalty. Walker on a yellow was asking the ref to book players which should be another yellow for him. Bruno should’ve scored a few minutes before he actually did.
