Mj fun fact clint eastwood was in the Korean war and was shot dwn over the ocean fyi look up the mull movie by clint eastwood directed and produced by him also its a real tear jerker maybe even more then grand torino cause it has toby keith singing the end credits who jst passed not to long ago as well
Hey MJ, great reaction! My name is Geoff Miclat and I was the casting associate for this film. Regarding the Hmong actors, all but one (Spider) were regular people. When we started the casting process for this film in 2007, there were virtually no Hmong actors and Clint really wanted to keep the casting as authentic as possible. So we held open calls and canvassed Hmong neighborhoods all around the country trying to find our cast. It was an arduous task, but in the end, it was a very gratifying process and something I will never forget. I hope that explains the more “raw” nature of the acting. I’m glad you enjoyed the film and I’m looking forward to seeing more reactions from you.
My whole family is irish and the the The Irish tradition of having "parties" after funerals, known as a "wake," is primarily to celebrate the life of the deceased, sharing stories, memories, and laughter with friends and family as a way to cope with grief and honor the person who has passed away, rather than just mourning their loss
The officer at the end tells Thao that Walt didn't even bring a gun with him and this time they had witnesses. They gunned down a korean war veteran in the street so they won't get out.👍🏼
And by saving Thao from the gang, and having him work to rehab the entire community, Walt earned the respect of the community, so they WOULD testify against the gang.
Clint is such an accomplished filmmaker. His top best are “mystic River,” “unforgiven,” “million dollar baby,” and so much more. He’s won 4 Oscars as a filmmaker and producer.
This movie is one of Clint’s masterpieces. His direction, producing and acting is magnificent and just amazing. The end is a redemption he was done with killing and taking a life. The best way to get back those pinks was have them serve life in prison for murder and that was the best way to get them away from Tao
What may not be clear (it was in the subtitles) is that Walt did not bring a gun. And he stayed on the sidewalk, did not go on their property and made sure there were witnesses. He sacrificed himself so that they would get locked up. And he did not have to take another life. Probably felt his own death would be justice for the lives he took and the guilt he carried around for the rest of his life.
The reason he didn’t kill them was because he was done with killing. It’s a redemption story! He knew the only to get them out of Tao’s life was for them to go to jail for murdering him.
Starting at the funeral was key to the overall character arc as it showed us who Walt cared about most, and that his family was completely and utter useless as human beings. Which by the end made his connections with his neighbors all the more meaningful, as they were more family to Walt than his own family had actually been.
I like how Walt went there to lay his life on the line for those kids. Walt knew there would be witnesses there to see it all go down and the gang members would then go to jail.
Contrary to popular belief, there are a lot of us that order soft drinks or other non-alcoholic drinks at bars. Especially those of us who used to drink quite heavily in the past!
If you notice He was pretty abrupt and rude when that kid asked for a jump. However when his family is leaving he is actually out there with his jumper cables helping out. So yes he is grumpy and abrasive but he actually is helpful just give him time. ~ edit, LOL I made this comment and went back to the reaction there you were commenting on him with jumper cables. I have seen about 4 others react to this and they all seem to miss it.
I knew you were gonna cry lol this is one of the ones I wished I could’ve watched with you bc I watched wit the subtitles so I knew what they were saying in the other language. I was over here reciting it like u could hear me😂💯
But yes Walt literally sacrificed himself so those guys could go to jail forever and never bother Tao and Sue again. I thought you would’ve caught it bc he was already dying, then he mowed the lawn one last time, he smoked in the house for the first time, he got a clean shave which he never does, he went and got a fitted suit, he went to confession for forgiveness, he gave Tao his medal of honor and he gave his dog to the neighbor, he was pretty much preparing everything and saying goodbye😢💯
A absolutely love how the movie throws in a snare drum every time when Walt is going to battle. He had two confessions, the one at the church and then the real one through the locked screen door in the house. A director's choice, but Walt dying in the shape of a cross was pure symbolism since he gave his life to save the neighborhood and his friends (like Jesus if you get my drift). If you liked this, check out Clint Eastwood's (acted/directed) film Million Dollar Baby. It had 7 Oscar noms and 4 of those were wins, including best picture. Bring tissues when you watch it.
I saw this movie in theaters when it came out. I honestly remember people laughing at Clint Eastwood's lines. He really can be an extremely funny guy. This movie may very well be his masterpiece.
Your reaction is perfect. I think that more people than we think, have this type of story in their lives. Not literally, but figuratively as they get to know people that they thought they didn't like.
Walt did put in the work...He sacrificed the remainder of his short life and put them all in prison for Murder for the remainder of their lives, that ultimately saved Tao and his family.
This movie is absolutely fantastic. Walt starts out a sad old man who just lost his wife and his own family is genuinely horrible and selfish. You can even see his son's wife messing with an old pearl necklace that she took from Dorothy (Walt's wife). He found a better family in Thao and Sue and he truly cares about them. He sacrifices himself so they can have a better life without worrying about that punk gang in their Honda Civic 😂
Back when I was a child, I didn't get why Clint Eastwood's character gets constantly agitated. Now, as an adult, I completely understand where he's coming from. His family members are flat out garbage, especially the grandchildren. 😑
Two movies Clint Directed are American Sniper with Bradley Cooper as Navy Seal Chris Kyle (based on a true story) and Mystic River with Sean Penn and Tim Robins.. Both are must watch movies. He has directed many more, but those two are fantastic.
You were RIGHT MJ!!!! This movie is about Tao NEEDING a father at his age to teach him how to be a MAN and Walt being a father to Tao with whatever time he had left on this Earth because he wasn't done being one yet whether he realized it or not!!??
I am indigenous to canada and after funerals the family pays respect by sharing a meal with everyone that came. Then our traditions we pay for the meal and the hall the fam provided...then pay for casket and the hall that everyone just ate in
Wow dam what a beautiful reaction it made me sad to see you cry I'm used to seeing you laugh and smile a lot my first time seeing you like this I hope buy now on people start asking for funny videos just to see you laughing thank you for this wonderful movie bless you and keep smiling😊💖🙏💯👍👍👍👍
Most of the Hmong people in this film weren't actors, including the guy who played Thao. So that's why he and some others might seem a bit 'awkward'. Clint Eastwood wanted actual Hmong people for the Hmong characters in this film, so they went to Hmong communities to cast them but found that most weren't actors or aspiring actors. Really awesome of Clint for doing that instead of what hollywood usually does which is use an Asian actor from a culture that is different from the culture being portrayed i.e. having a Korean actor play a Chinese character. This film is a huge W for many reasons. Great reaction!
When we had my mom's funeral and buried her we went to my brother's place and ordered a bunch of pizza lol same thing when her sister/my aunt passed. Just kinda a thing to do after going through something emotional like that.
MJ, you need to react to "The Outlaw Josey Wales" . You get to see Clint Eastwood at his baddest. In my opinion though 🤷 😌 😏. I love the characters in this movie, Chief Lone Wadi and Chief Ten Bears. YESSSSS 👏 👏 👏. Have a great day today and love your channel. ❤❤❤
... I would've loved to hear that conversation "Hey sonny boy, I got a part for ya in my brand new movie, gonna be huge, everybody's gonna see it, ya want in?" .... Clint is the BEST for putting his son in that role forever
Cut to him telling him to shut up & calling him a pussy.. 🤣🤣 I would have loved to hear the two of them right after they yelled cut on the scene to know what was said.. In my head, I imagine it was something like this: *Clint [to Scott]:* "Good job, Pussy. Thanks for coming by. I'll call ya tonight. Now.. Get off my set." *Clint [to the rest of the cast]:* "Half an hour for lunch..." 🤣🤣
Having a reception/repass after services is common. I would guess more people do it than don’t do it. Almost every funeral I’ve been to has had one. It’s not tied to any religion or culture, it’s just a human thing. I’m Hispanic and have been to dozens of Hispanic funerals, almost everyone has had a reception. The few that didn’t, were because they did not have the finances to host one.
It's one movie that shows how we should behave to another people no matter what kind we are, it teach us a lot but like a said to my kids, you have to understand for yourself because no matter if the whole world tells you how to treat people right if you don't do it for yourself you'll never gonna be in peace. I love you reaction and i hope you react to more movies with something that teach us lessons of life, peace 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Keep making videos. People will enjoy watching. Very good editing. Lots of great movies to watch. I will be here watching. I suggest. Alien or. The Exorcist. Good Luck
So this is taking place near Detroit. I live about not far from there and remember when they were filming around Ann arbor and parts of Detroit. I was young so didn't realize what the movie was but it was filmed down the street from my dad's office. An incredible movie .
When he is talking to "toad" in the basement scene he is trying the man's way to get thru to him, Let the man do his work you will see. This is what I was thinking atm of that scene playing out.
I asked when you asked if he was racist towards those Asian people. He fought in the Korean war. There was a lot of anti-Asian racism. Remember, we fought Japan, then Korea, then Vietnam. We had generations of people who did not like them.
If a priest approached me in my hour of grief, with humility and the mindset that he is the lords servant on this earth, not his messenger, then I can listen to him. And I am not even a christian
A great reaction. I'm going to give you a list of six or seven other excellent Clint Eastwood movies. I don't know which ones you have done already. 1973 or so is high plains drifter. Your probably getting Million Dollar Baby in your request que soon so heads up it is one of the hardest movies you'll ever watch. Bring all tissues for it.
It doesn't have to be a religious thing. My family always have a wake after a funeral, it's just not in someone's home. We go to a bar somewhere, catch up with friends and family we haven't seen for a while and tell stories about the one we lost. We are not a religious family.

Unfortunate this comment is even needed.
Yeah it’s gross
That’s the great irony of our country, it’s full of immigrants telling other immigrants to gtfo 🤦🏾♂️
dont be soft and live in a bubble that's safe

I’ve seen you comment on other reactions to this movie. Yall did great work on it
Most of this cast were unknown, but they all did a really good job. I'd say that the casting team nailed it on this movie! :)
Wasn't there also a casting call at a soccer game or something like that, for Hmong actors?
The kid that got bullied by the black dudes is Clint Eastwoods real life son!
Yeah! Scott Eastwood 😁
when Walt trapped Thao in the basement and talked to him through the door screen was Walt's REAL confession. the way that was shot was pure genius.
A-1 Observation ‼️🔥🔥💯
And also Toad points the same rifle Walt killed all of those “…..”’s with right into his face.
Good catch!
My whole family is irish and the the The Irish tradition of having "parties" after funerals, known as a "wake," is primarily to celebrate the life of the deceased, sharing stories, memories, and laughter with friends and family as a way to cope with grief and honor the person who has passed away, rather than just mourning their loss

definitely a piano at the beginning. I'm loving your recent choices of movies. you have wonderful taste!

52:03 I get it on how this scene made you cry as it was so deep and it hits hard. 🥺
Everybody needs a Walt in their life.

He doesn't get the jumper cables out to help Thao. He gets them out to jump one of his family's car.
@@hackermusic3355- And you know this how?
Clint is truly one of the great directors. Million Dollar Baby from him has multiple Oscars.

You are such a sweet and kind person. I hope you have everything in life.
Love your reactions. You're a very sweet and genuine reactor. keep doing what you're doing.
Song at the end was Clint Eastwood singing listen again.
Clint Eastwood has written and directed ALOT of movies. If you like this one I HIGHLY suggest “Million Dollar Baby”. You aint prepared for that one!
Another iconic Eastwood movie is Million Dollar Baby but you really need to be prepared for that one. 😢
Either the church or my family has always done a dinner/lunch after funerals
Walt did put in the work...He sacrificed the remainder of his short life and put them all in prison for Murder for the remainder of their lives, that ultimately saved Tao and his family.

one of my favorite clint eastwood films. good reaction MJ.
I honestly get the impression that MJ would get along great if mr kowolkski was her neighbor
❤ Clint Eastwood’s character & his acting in this film. I got this movie on blu-ray I never get 🥱 of watching it.

Clint Eastwood is the man. I love all of his movies, all the way back to his Westerns.
really you cannot have a better time than have a happy meal as you react ?
Subtitles would explain more from the Hmong side.
Guaranteed to make you cry. A straight up Detroit Movie.
You got such a big heart girl

Another great film! You’re on a roll MJ 👏🏽
The guy at 19:13 is Scott Eastwood. That’s Clint Eastwood’s son.
... I would've loved to hear that conversation "Hey sonny boy, I got a part for ya in my brand new movie, gonna be huge, everybody's gonna see it, ya want in?" .... Clint is the BEST for putting his son in that role forever
His other son orchestrated ALL of the music in the movie.

Very nice reaction, also very smart. You got Walt from the beginning, the men of my fathers and uncles generations of WW2 and Korea. Kudos to you.
Way to keep it real, MJ. Nice reaction.

Damn Mj i was fine until you started crying lol great reaction!
You didn’t react to “It’s A Wonderful Life”, during the holiday season?
Still not too late.
It’s a must!!
I love you MJ. You are so respectful and understanding. Plus very good looking, cant forget to give you that compliment. Lol
She's gonna cry
Yep!
An M.J. for Spiderman type cry...

mj nice job on the upload

You aren't being a Hispanic correctly. Mexican funerals are lit like the grill....
I’m not Mexican so idk
@MJWITHOUTSPIDERMAN ok. My cousin is sick right now. I'll call you in a couple weeks. Pull up. 😂 😂
Beautiful movie
The actor who plays Trey is Clint Eastwood’s real son Scott Eastwood
If a priest approached me in my hour of grief, with humility and the mindset that he is the lords servant on this earth, not his messenger, then I can listen to him. And I am not even a christian
Great movie. Very emotional
A great reaction. I'm going to give you a list of six or seven other excellent Clint Eastwood movies. I don't know which ones you have done already. 1973 or so is high plains drifter. In the middle '70s the outlaw Josie Wales and I think the early '80s or so pale rider. And a comedy that came out around 1977 or 78 every which way but loose. Clint is a badass in all of those. Also from the early '70s the first three dirty hairy movies. Take care and Happy New Year to you and yours.
Honest reaction, thanks
Yes he's directed before. Check out The Unforgiven.
I understand stand what you say about respect at a funurel, when i watched my older brother at a wake then just a burial, but we did have a cook out bbQ ribs and burgers and such just because my brother loved a great cook out so we did it in memory of my brother.
m.j. you would love him as dirty harry check out those movies oh and btw my 2 kids went to high scool with those 2 kid actors my son graduated with sue and my daughter was a year behind tou. they went to armstrong high in plymouth mn.
I think this is Eastwood's best movie ever❤
Hola MJ. Me gusta tus reacciones. 😊
13:07 you're missing the point
That field is still there today, and they've have MLB games in another baseball field built adjacent to it.
Both sides of my family are Hispanic and catholic and we’ve always had wakes, maybe it depends on the family.
Why does everyone cut out the bar joke?I'm mexican and that joke is the funniest thing about this movie 😂
Clint Eastwood has directed many films as well as acted in them too. Check out Million Dollar Baby, Unforgiven, and Mystic River just to name a few!
