This Lake just REOPENED (How will it fish?)

- Lake Berryessa just reopened after closing a few months back due to the California wildfires. This lake like all other lakes in California closed for months when Covid first hit and the fishing was just so-so when it reopened. How will it fish this time around after months of no fishing pressure?

I was just getting ready to go to sleep.............now I got to wait haha
Lol
Nothing better than a new Greg Blanchard video at breakfast! Thank you, Greg! I hear it can be tough bite at Berryessa!
i know I am quite off topic but do anyone know a good place to stream newly released movies online ?
Lol! Yes, you are quite off topic! No!
Gotta say thank you, Greg. My bass / kayak game has gotten sooo much better after finding your videos. I kinda hit a plateau and your videos pulled me out of it.
Bump
Hey man that's awesome to hear! Never meant this channel to be informative but I think as I learn it helps folks out there too! cheers
@@GregBlanchardFishing I’m no lie getting a kayak because of you. Discovered you fishing Cayuga, subscribed, didn’t check back in for a while and came back to see you blew up. Problem is I can’t find kayaks easily but I have my eye on a pescador
I watch your videos daily at lunch. I wanted to say thank you. You keep the sanity in the work day.
I’d try the single 4-6 in swimbait on a 1/2 swimbait head. (Rainbow trout colours) There not wanting the larger bait nor the smaller finesse drop shot.
Nice video
Ouch....lost two A-rigs in one day....that hurt the wallet, for sure. I appreciate you trying and filming (and posting).
You’re paying too much for your A rigs
Thanks Ron! I don't mind losing 1 but 2 in one day , ahhh lol
@@FishingwithGreeley It's all relative, right? But I do see your point.
Well if he used a lure knocker he could get it back...so don't throw a 30$ rig without one.
Thanks for posting. Since Berryessa reopened, our club is going to fish it later this month. As always, it's nice to watch your fishing adventures while having my morning coffee 😊
You bet Liz! Thanks for watching
I grew up at Lake Berryessa have lived in Vacaville and Sacramento my whole life. So I do a lot of fishing around these Lakes. Berryessa has always been a struggle.
Fall bit are the best ever. I caught my best five fish yesterday bags of 23.7 at my favorite lake. Shore fishing. I got my PB also 5.10 in MN that monster. Love your channel.
I cant ever do well in the fall, I live in central MN and I just fall flat when it comes to finding a pattern that works
I fish for two hours at one spot no bit and than I came to a spot that don’t catch any things. But within my second cast I caught my PB than it’s just on like that. Every two cast get a fish all from one spot. They all 4.1 to 5.10. Probably caught ten fish within 30 minutes. Just have to find where they school up. Don’t give up
big bag from the shore!!!
Great weather!! Thank you for taking us along on your adventures. I especially like that you're tossing that 250 around more. I've found that when I can get them to follow but not commit I'll toss a weightless senko way out ahead of them and more often than not it'll get picked up. Give that a shot next time. Tight lines as always, my friend!!
Thanks for watching Luis! Can't wait to hook up on the 250. it will increase my confidence SO much and ill throw itmore
Loved it Greg ! Wish I could show you these big black drum we’ve been catching in Suwannee Florida, gulf coast. 37 pounder last weekend!
Great video, nice that you get to relax and just fish with no pressure. Waiting for the next round.
Dang.. Losing two A-rigs is rough. Tough day, partner. At least the Deps came back safe!
Oh man for sure! I will truly be sad when I lose the Deps
Greg! I decided to let the Berryessa excitement calm down before I go. I KNEW you would go. Thanks for teaching me. I watch your videos to learn; and it’s working (I got the skunk off at Clearlake big time. 9 keepers). I did what I saw you do in a video. It worked.
That hazedong shad is so killer, thanks for showing me that lure got tons of fish and some nice ones on it this year
fav bass fisherman on youtube
Hey Greg,
Thanks for all the kayak bass fishing Video. Because of your video, it make me want to do kayak fishing.
Do you ever thinking about doing a tournament yourself?
Appreciate the videos. Keep it coming
I always wanted to fish at Lake Berryessa....thanks for the show
I was just there last week in that exact spot and caught a bunch of small mouth dinks from shore. Glad they finally reopened. Great video as always
I felt like I was missing something today excited for the video
DAMN 2 A-RIGS.LOST..BUMMER!!!!!!!!!!.I THOUGHT YOU WERE GONNA START SLAYING THEM WHEN YOU PUT THE SPOON ON..I DID PRETTY GOOD ON MY HANDTIED-JIG'S AND BINK'S SPOONS...LAST SUNDAY...NOV-1-2020.....the lake is down like 20'...crazy amounts of shoreline exposed....THUMBS-UP!!!!
There is going to be that day where he tries to find fish with the deps 250 and something big bites it
One of my favorite old haunts, thanks for the friendly reminder 👊🏽
Man Greg, you need to get some 8” Hudds in ROF 5 and 12 and start throwing them across those tapering points and around the trees. Those fish are following that 250 in a lot. That doesn’t always mean the swimbait bite is on but it’s definitely not bad. Your channel will go nuts if you start catching 8 lbers on hudds. LOL! Give it a shot this fall and winter. You can do it dude!
Love the scenery. Another great video
Please post another video already!!!!
You can’t lie, when the A-Rig got stuck all of our hearts dropped a bit haha😂
Thanks for helping me escape everything going on right now
you bet man, thanks for watching
That b roll at the beginning tho!
I was there 5 days ago on the yak. Saw some with the A Rig which I didn’t bring. Very slow bite. Did catch a 3 lb. LB, a really nice small mouth, and bonus a 19” trout , which was yummy.
Then went back with my friends bass boat and got skunked.
He caught an amazing 12.5 lb catfish dragging a metal jig on the bottom. Slow bite again though.
Thanks for the video Greg.
Definitely was fishing tough! That's a big smallmouth at least!
Thanks for the trip!
Greg, PLEASE get those white baits off your a rig and put some natural colored ones on it! (love your videos but you're killing me haha)
tough days are still good days!
I’ve noticed the same thing with the smaller fish at that lake. I caught some pretty skinny, but long ones last weekend. Only the one spot that I caught had some thickness to him.
Our lake in cencal was FIRE when covid reopened. haha literally 100+ fish day
I was going to ask about the number of hooks. Only in CA!!!
Break offs 😥 I feel your pain, brother.
Yay! Lake Berryessa is reopen to fish!
Berryessa sure is a beautiful lake with all those mountains. But I’m sure most the California lakes have better scenery than the Texas lakes in that regard. Bought to start hitting up the power plant lakes here. Bite has been good and bad on the normal lakes down here. Haven’t had much time to get out since mid October when we had our Lonestar Throwdown tournament here it was down in central Texas on the Colorado river chain of lakes. Good times.
When an 8” bass is pulling that much drag, maybe it’s too loose. Lol Just kidding Greg. Great video.
haha, i hear ya!
Check out the louisiana triple threat ! Pretty good option if you can only have 3 hooks
Right when you tied you that new A rig and tossed it in by hand I thought to myself “I sure hope he tied that on first” haha.
Dude imagine being stuck fishing because the land around you is burning. Both horrifying and a challenge i’m up for lmao
nooo waayyyyyy for me lol
Just came back from fishing my fav spot before it starts to get super cold over here in CT and see ole greg boy 💪🏻💪🏻 but its been pretty warm the past couple days so idk might be fishing a little more before it actually gets super cold and never go fish till it gets warm again 💪🏻💪🏻
never know man, could be chewing for a bit longer! milk it for all its worth before that white stuff starts falling from the sky!
@@GregBlanchardFishing oh i will 💪🏻💪🏻
I got skunked yesterday, the water has gotten a lot colder and they aren’t biting!😤
cooler temps can definitely mess these fish up!
I think the "My name is Jeff" came from the HatCamBass channel. Jeff always introduces himself like that in each video lol.
Lost a big small mouth at the boat there yesterday, one I my only bites on a tough day.
Man I have caught a ton of fish out there this time of year on a jiging spoon
If your are getting followers on the big glide, try throwing a small swimbait as a follow up bait. Think 3.8'' Keitec
Omgg!!!!!! Im sooo ready for this weekend the fish better be hungry ahaha
Sick intro...Always dropping 🔥🔥🔥 content...
Thanks Nick! Continuing to work on the edit game!
The fish did not shrink I cought a big one the other day there
Greg have you thought about getting a lure retriever stick. Got plenty of snag A rigs with my retriever. Good job for this time of year.👍🎣
I have one but I honestly didn't think it'd work on an a rig but i will bring it next time!
What’s the air and water temps this time of the year?? Glad the lake reopened! What lures will you be focusing on this coming January tournament?
air was 55 lo 75 hi and water temps not sure since the graph is glitched up. Hmm, good question, probably big hudds, jigs, spoons and of course the finesse stuff!
When in doubt dropshot out it's something I just made up but works
Would love to see you fish some tubes!
I have 10-12 packs of Kitechs and have yet to catch a fish on any of them. Megabass.........slays everything.
13:25 "the old dong works". LOL
Greg it looks beautiful out there.
gorgeous place for sure
That was almost a REAL expensive trip 😎🙏😅
Broke my PB at Berryessa this year, 8.2 lbs😁
What month was this?
@@ronk6553 late May or early June, 2 months prior to fire season. Caught it on a ned rig of all things
giant! i be that fish was all of 23-24 inches too!
@@GregBlanchardFishing 24 inches on the dot, with a mouth that could fit a softball!
You should do a subscriber get together at Berryessa .
Awesome vid!
Great video Greg....what is that big swim bait you are using, would love to order one and try it thanks
Was Berryessa one of the lakes being stocked with trout or salmon? The one Zona and Ehrler did a show on and Matt from TacticalBassin ran guide/camera boat?
My thoughts are the way CA has been locked down if they weren’t able to stock that high fat food supply maybe 🤔
Just guessing
History is a lot more fun now
😂
Greg sure does stay pretty calm when he looses $50 bucks worth of A-rig, twice.
The magic of editing 😉
If you had them I would have switched to a 120-168 sized s-waver after that many follows
I went out the first day it opened and we absolutely crushed the smallies on crank baits. I never caught so many small mouth.
lake b i miss that spot
Did you notice which boat launches are open right now?
I think they all are
As always great content. Where did you launch and did you see any crappie schools?
Thanks! oak shores and nothing, lots of bait tho
We were there last weekend and saw fish busting all over, we caught 1 bass and 3 24" trout in that spot, assume they were mostly trout?
Maybe have a crank bait ready for those bass that won’t eat your swimbait and that swimbait is way too big for that lake
Tough bite brother. Im looking to buy electronics for my yak. Was leaning towards a newer Garmin unit. I know you rep the Raymarine, not many people do. Got any advice for the kid?
Right on man well honestly I've only had the raymarine units. 7'' seems to be a great size for the kayak and I like mine for the DI/Sonar and Side imaging has been great
Fantastic content. I have been watching your vids since the Native Slayer was your ride. Question, are you are using the boondox Groovy landing gear or Sidekick? I have the sidekick on my Titan and they stick. Tried to get them out while I was in the Kayak and that was a disaster. I noticed you taking your wheels out prior to getting in and I imagine that will be the way to go in the future. If you know anything about the Sidekick gear sticking and have any tips that would be cool. Thanks
THanks Scott! Still have the boonedox landing gear which is like 3 years old but still works of course.
Enjoyed the video! I know you throw the drop shot alot what size weight do you throw most? Thanks Greg 👍
Thanks! 1/4 oz most of the time
you’ve gotta be my favorite youtuber now
thanks Jake!
@@GregBlanchardFishing keep up the great content my man
What is the brand of fish finder you use for your kayak ?
Berry is a great lake, though, and used to catch quite a few. The fire had to change things. I wonder if they don't have too much live bait. Was that a lot of insect activity. Might just be fat, and happy 😊 🤔
Love your videos!
Why dont you just take a lil swim for the a rigs it was only 10 feet down? And you have a wetsuit.
How do you like the 201 for big baits? i have three 201s that i use for conventional tackle but i bought a 301 to throw big swimbaits with and it honestly feels like too much.
Losing an a-rig is the worst.
Put a 2oz weight on a snap/clip hook on line send it down to snag ,shake or drop and shake , easy lure retriever from bass union,I think you know him.💵💵💰💰💵
What is the name of the umbrella setup you are using?
The last time I was at Lake Berryessa was 4th of July glad to see it's back open
I was going to get a tshirt but I think something is wrong with your merch site. It isnt loading on 2 different devices.
Hmm, interesting and thanks for the heads up Aaron. Maybe try again now, seems to be working again.
I once lost a brand new a rig first cast lol
ah, bummer man, thats the worst
Time to do a panfishing video
Do you use straight braid for top water?
My names Jeff from the movie 22 jump street lmao
The ingredients are correct.
Deps 250 probably about the same price as a small unit 😂
LOL very true
Do you use braid to Fluoro or braid to mono on your top water lures?
straight braid
Hey Greg, what kind of sunglasses do you wear?
amzn.to/2u75imF
U should put a bit of red dye on the farthest back swimbait they key in on it a bit more and u get less hits on dummy swimbaits
Good tip, heard of it before and forgot to do it!
Dope video
Making it look easy 😂
I can’t count how many A rigs I’ve lost that’s expensive fishing
Never tried one yet but I've been wanting to. What trailers do you put on yours?
@@drewsims262 I use small Keitech easy shiners, just buy a bunch of them because the durability is almost nonexistent.
I’ve been using the new Berkley swimbaits there a lot more durable work good at lake fork many colors and sizes
