I am loving the double game features! Just awesome to see you guys play these games! I have never played cEDH and I probably never will but I get my fix with yall! 👌🏻
I think the theory behind countering the tutored thing makes sense when your opponent is spending mana and a card to get the thing. Jeska's Will is usually net positive on mana and while the draw can whiff, you play the best spells off the three anyway, netting another positive. Tldr, Demonic Tutor -2 mana +1 good card, Jeska's Will +1 to +4 mana, +0 to +3 good cards
These codie videos are what made me throw mine together and OMG is it fun. I love all the quick wins and how consistent it is and then also how resilient it can be
Great games! I understand that cEDH decks don't have a lot of flex slots due to the nature of the format, but I feel like the Codie deck should be able to fit at least one fetchable land so that you don't get blown out by Boseiju. It's not like Boseiju is a niche card, this is going to happen a good amount of the games that you play with the deck.
there's also assassin's trophy but yes. the thing is i guess it really isnt a blowout at all because like the card quality of the deck makes up for it.
Hey, I got into CEDH from you guys's videos and I won my first game yesterday with blue farm (don't ask me why I started here. I am looking for a simpler deck) but am having a great time
Malcolm Tana. No Adnaus no weird breachlines. Mainly you tutor for Glinthorn and go for the W. Mine slants midrange and runs grindy guys like Niv Mizzet and even Orhan Frostfang (gotta use that 4 mana Tana for something so why not pod/evo it into a grindy piece.) you can build it lots of ways though but all very simple and most hands will get you t1 or 2 Malcolm and lots of t3 easy win attempts. Highly recommend. Simple and high win % and it’s not all that common so you get at least a couple hipster points!
wow cool, i finally get to see a pet deck of mine prime speaker play and they didnt even get to play lol. see you all in 4 years when i maybe get to see them at a table again lmao
exact number of cards and also exactly the right mana AND color of mana (and also codie using one of those non-dual lands you guys were talking about game 1) perfect ending
In the 2nd game there was actually a buffer for error as Dylan could have cast LED a 2nd time before casting his Demonic Tutor. Then he would sacrifice LED for UUU with DT on the stack so that he doesn't have to discard Brain Freeze from hand. This line requires fewer cards in the GY to go off (6 vs. 9 that he ended up using)
LED can only be activated at instant speed not as a mana ability so you would have to crack it and discard your hand before casting the spell you’re using the mana on rather than as you’re casting the spell like you can with treasures
@@loganjohnston4441 it's not in issue in this case, Dylan already had BBB floating. He would be cracking LED for UUU. Also since he's casting Demonic Tutor from the graveyard it doesn't matter if he has to discard his hand since he was empty handed anyway
I’m gonna say every single deck should have a basic or two. Not only does it save you from blood moon but when it becomes realized that next to no decks have basics then path to exile becomes soooooo much better
I’m sure this has been asked before, Do y’all use proxies at all? Such as LED or Mox Diamond? Love the content, watching y’all play and discuss cards has helped me in so many ways, especially when deck building and playing CEDH.
Codie had a great showing here. I know you guys have talked in the past about it being more on the fringe due to it needing to cast a lot of spells in format that has been taken over somewhat by "midrange hell" and draw engines. I'm curious what your current stance on the deck is.
btw i think in game 2 dylan cant target himself with ancestral visions, because he has protection from blue because of veil of summer or am I missing something?
Wild thought: would Noxious Revival have interrupted the Breach loop at any point? Kinda wondering how the game would have gone if Nate had held onto it
I hate building a glass cannon CEDH deck, so my favorite thing to do is to take an existing glass cannon deck like Orvar or Codie, keep the turbo option, and expand it's usefulness beyond it's commander requirement. I built a Codie deck that's just as fast as Profane Tutor/Ad Naseum without the drawbacks of "if codie dies, you may lose the game.". And it has a ~50% winrate so far in CEDH spelltable. I'd love to share the list sometime for anyone who wants it.
Ok i got a Question why going from trophy mage into Stitcher and stopping there and not into Breaching Hippocamp and from there into a cmc 5 kreature ? Love you work and hopeing to see more.
It doesn’t really matter, but I’m curious why dylan didn’t play the git probe in hand, it would’ve net him 1 extra card and 1 extra storm on his win turn.
The only reason i would call this a "bad game" is because you had a tier A commander up against Tier C commanders. You may as well had just played Nadu, you may as well had just played in a pod where everyone else wanted to play "casual." Speaking of Nadu, the current SS tier commander option, the other "A" tier commanders are those with activated abilities to gain card advantage like Kenrith or Thrassios etc. Kinnon, Enigma, Atraxa, Malcolm, and/or Rog&Sigh. The only other commander options that are not in A tier that could compete are those known for being explosive fast or super control like the Son of Yawgmoth, Yison, Godo, there's a handful of other blue commander options [Note Urza high artificer is "A" tier]. Would love to see another game with Codie but with better opponent commander deck choices. However, i don't expect to ever see such as i'm not a patreon and while i've been interested to join i'd be more tempted [by the ring] if i could support PLAY TO WIN through Giftsendgo.
I feel like this is a Codie list that actually has some legs, or at least moreso than previous iterations of Codie I am making this comment at 8:53, so let's see what game 2 looks like. Maybe I'll eat my words
I tried vannifar once and sorry to the people who are working on the deck but I didn’t have a great time with the deck, I’m sure that I made some mistakes but also that there are a lot of pieces in the format that stop it from doing anything.
Soo watching so many cEDH videos now , i love the build up , i love the counter battles. I hate the endings they just feel sooo anticlimatic … cEDH wins are the reason i think i dont like it as much. Its the same thing over and over really . But hey this video was awesome and Tomer was dope
I’m very certain you cannot cast profane tutor from exile if it was not originally suspended. I ran into this issue in my Prosper deck. It would just stay exiled indefinitely.
So the cards with no mana cost like profane tutor normally cant be cast, but Codie's ability allows you to cast without paying which supercedes that restriction
The reason why you cannot normally cast Profane Tutor is that it doesn't have a mana cost. No mana cost represents an unpayable cost (rule 118.6), which means you can't cast it for its (unpayable) mana cost. On the other hand, you can cast it for an alternative cost, and Codie gives it one ("without paying its mana cost" is an alternative cost).
Prosper still requires you to cast the card and pay costs. As profane tutor does not have a cost to pay you can't cast it off of Prosper. However Codie gives an alternate casting cost(cast that card without paying its mana cost). Thus you are allowed to cost that
12:37 Dylan is lying about not having the win here. He has Underworld Breach and Brain Freeze in hand with Imperial Seal and Veil of Summer and enough cards in the grave to cast both so he could just tutor the LED and win from there. The top deck was mostly irrelevant
Noooo!! I had spirit guide, breach, wheel of fate, gitaxian probe with 3 cards in my graveyard and no available mana at that time. I discard those cards with lion’s eye diamond, so you see them. I did not think it could have it. Phyrexian tower and demonic tutor were my draws. Demonic tutor allowed me to find LED and brain freeze
Aesi isnt a very good deck, and more importantly was played incorrectly. You want to play a very slow control deck vs Vannifar and Codie? You cant develop a 6 mana advantage engine until you have an additional UU open to at the very least threaten 1 or 2 counterspells. Keeping a manavault hand JUST for Aesi (which I suspect is what happened) is just not a good play outside of an absurdly slow meta. Turbo pounces hard and fast. You cant just expose your belly so quickly and obviously. You need to kick them in the shins first.
I'm assuming on resolve the targeted player decided to reveal that information, so regardless of what the card says you are allowed to reveal your hand legally at any time
"I edit it, you missed it"
Fatality, flawless victory
Nate topdecking Rocco is still incredible, but man - you drawing a tutor + Phyrexian Tower... *chefs kiss*
"Begin. You missed it🙎🏼♂️"
"I edit it, though🧏🏻♂️ 👹 Begin 👹"
Is it sad that I kinda expected Tomer to have these sort of games at a cEDH table? Hope he comes back to actually have a game.
He's actually had some success in some other Play to Win videos IIRC. Not that this is totally unexpected of him, but he does usually fair pretty ok
What's the context for this? Is Tomer generally considered bad?
