- iraq war was a war that emerged from 2003 until 2011. it firstly began with george w bush accusing iraq of having wmds but his main goal was to take all the oil from iraq.the americans formed a coalition to invade iraq which had uk,poland,australia. after they took over baghdad the coalition found itself to be trapped in a 8 year long war with sunni and shiite insurgents that didn't stay silent to the invasion and began resisting. but in 2006 things took a turn as the sunnis and shiite armed groups started fighting each other in a civil war from 2006 to 2008 and it ended with the destruction of al qaeda and al mahdi army but other sunni and shiite armed groups continued resisting such as the islamic army in iraq and the kataib hezbollah and in 2011 the us withdrew all of its forces from iraqi territory to end the disaster invasion after between 500k and 1 million iraqis died and over 5k coalition forces we're killed.
