Beautiful flight both ways. Priceless father-and-son adventure. I fly a Mooney M20C but our roles are reversed, I fly and my son co-pilots. I see you're NYPD. I'm a retired Police Officer in CA. Thank you for your service. Fly safe.

Thanks for the nice comments, but I cannot take the thanks for my service. A NYPD Aviation Lt. gave me the shirt. We did some paint work on their heli. We have donated work to local law enforcement though!

So incredibly impressed with your 'refurb'. Actually, my wife walked by and said "Your mouth is hanging open- what are you watching?" I was somewhere around Bozeman- still in awe with N205J. 32 years old, yet, as sweet as a 2016 Ultra or Ovation. I honestly did NOT think any plane could be refurbed to current spec. that well. INCREDIBLE WORK
Side Note: I love that you and your dad take this complex aircraft and fly it manually over the Rockies. So nice that you enjoy the mountain flying, deviate for fun and the plane helps instead of pure VFR.

Wow, just wow. What a Mooney !! What my pops would of done to have instrumentation like that. He flew a 67’ Executive 21, steam gauges thru out. If I recall his biggest trip was Wichita to New York, NY and once out to Vegas. I started flying with him in 55’ and haven’t been up since he quit flying in the 90’s. Started with a Tri-Pacer and ended with a Tri-Pacer with 2 Mooneys in between. Only friend I know as a pilot, is a High School bud with a Stearman. Now that would be an interesting ride. 😎

I really enjoyed watching this video, and this is not meant to be criticism, but having flown this route probably 50 times over 27 years (and living in the PNW), others should not use your far west routing as an example of how to fly MT-ID-WA. You went way out of your way unnecessarily and I’m not really sure why. The clouds were pushing you down yet the tops didn’t look very high. Going high over the mountains is advisable for many reasons including gliding distance, smoother air and avoiding scud running risks. Since it was your first time. I get that you were fearful of the mountains, but if you fly high you can go direct just fine.

Because it was about the fun journey; not the destination. We have other aircraft that fly high that are much faster if we needed to get there quickly.

Maybe they wanted the fun of the journey and not the speed to destination. It's like taking old Rt66 instead of I40. For a one time fun trip I would do what they did.

We have a Little John Pilot Urinal jug to pee in. If you have to poop, you do it when you land.

I think your camera equipment is interfering with your flying. I think you could honestly lose a camera or two. Your cockpit is very, very busy

I agree wholeheartedly, especially that camera behind me that I can't even see. That one in particular often causes spontaneous complete loss of flight controls.

I think that since you were not in the cockpit and have absolutely NO idea how busy it actually was... you could lose your silly comment. ;)
