Making an offer is a brilliant tip. I bought two razors recently. A Wade that was listed at $63 I paid $40 and a Sheffield (Geo & Wansy?) listed at $44 I paid $26. Both in good condition. No rust, no chips, very little hone wear, nice scales, slight oxidation but nowhere near the bevel. They both showed up looking great and for $66 I got two great shavers. Making an offer is brilliant. Shows how stupid the prices are that they accept offers for 30% off.
"Think twice buy once" it's a good phrase! Thanks for showing up this keith, I will know what to buy the next time! Excelent video again.
You're welcome and thank you for checking out the video Israel!
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does any of you know a tool to log back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the account password. I would love any help you can offer me
@Byron Deacon Instablaster :)
@Roy Bradley thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Roy Bradley it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass !
This was eerily like listening to my own inner dialogue in someone else's voice while shopping on there. Great (different) video.
Thank you for commenting and watching Gus!
Would you be willing to do a video like this for hone purchasing?
Probably not.
Thanks Keith that was fun some prices outrageous but so is my wife's purse collection lol cheers bud
Purses, shoes, makeup...lol..... Thanks Johnny!
I'm so fortunate to have bought my small collection by end of 2017! I feel so bad for anyone ,including myself when trying to get their money's worth on ebay now! I know it can be done! But man o man the good old days of $20-$50 beauties!
The deals are still there Frank, but the incidence of fraud is much higher so those deals are harder to find now.
Hello Mr. Keith V. Johnson, how are you sr? Here from Portugal the first razor I hold was a gold dollar, I give them a good hone and finish in a muller whetstone and has a great shaving, why people don't like thems? Nowadays I hold many different straight razors since I watch your channel.. Thanks you Sr. Johnson, cheers!
My only issues with GD razors are, they are poorly made, the geometry is awful, the bevel angle is ridiculous, the grind work is uneven, the scales are garbage, the pins and pinning is terrible, they rust in a heartbeat and they wont hold a good edge for more than 4-5 shaves. Other than that, I have no complaints.
Cool vid Keith. Keepin it real as usual.
Thank you Mr. Tee!
a folding dorko steak knife...love it
Cracks can be so hard to see... I bought what looked like a nice old German 5/8 blade because I didn’t see a crack till a little hone pressure revealed it, I ended up taking 3/16th off from toe to heel and it shaves well but it doesn’t feel right. A $70 buy, I spent 4 hours on that I’d feel bad selling for $30. Great vid, sounds like you don’t mind making shortys. One of my first successful restorations was a 7/8th “Progress” from Germany, chopped off 1/2” and used it for a while - great razor.
Hey Jeff, thank you for watching and commenting. For sure - cracks can be really hard to see, even when the blade is in your hands. Making shorty razors is fun, I think it's a good way to conserve resources too.
Thanks for the help.
You're welcome and thank you for watching and commenting too!
I always surf the bay, but hardly ever purchase anymore unless it really grabs me. In this day and age, there is no excuse for a crappy, out-of-focus or poorly exposed image. Any time I see that, I automatically deem it to be an attempt to defraud. A lot of crap out there, but if you have the time and patience to dig long enough a good deal can be found. Thanks for the additional tips!
Hey Bill, for sure, there are deals to be found out there. Just gotta wade through the muck carefully.
Somehow i got sucked into wanting to shave with a straight razor now im hooked. Picked up a Grah and plumacher blue diamond no rust for 29 bucks. Im guesssing its not high end but forum member said they shave nice. Looking at a joh engstrom frameback for cheap now.
Sounds good - happy shaving!
Great video Keith! I usually type “vintage straight razor”...this video definitely helps 👍🏼. Keep the great videos coming 🐧
Great keyword tip Pete - ty - I use that one too sometimes.

@@KeithVJohnson1 No bother Keith learning something new every day
Hello Keith, greetings from Mexico. I wanna start shaving with a straight razor and practice honing. What razor? Where to start? Thanks for any help.
Where to start - join a wetshaving forum like Badger & Blade, find the straight razor posts, ask questions, read a lot, watch a lot of videos, make friends with guys using straights, etc.
@@KeithVJohnson1 Thanks. I am watching a lot of vids. Specially enjoy yours. As for making friends and chats, mmm I'm kinda more of the quiet loner type but I'll keep learning one way or the other. Thanks again.
Do you have any advice on where to purchase a set of hones that would allow me to set the bevel and progress to finish? Not a lifelong set mind you but something to get by and then over time add better stones. the thought of spending thousands of dollars to start is a little off putting. Her is the part that will probably make you roll your eyes, can you do it for under 100 dollars?
Hi - I recommend Shapton Pro stones, I sell them in my Etsy store and the link is in the description section. The 4 stone set will take you from bevel to finish. IMO, they are the best value for sharpening on the market. They are splash/go, easy to use, easy to keep flat, consistent in every way.
Thank you for that fast reply
You are very welcome!
Why looking on ebay for garbagevrazors when there are plenty of new razors on sale??😳
People like to restore old razors.
I guess someone didn't like that you knew they were selling pieces of garbage on eBay?
Seems to be the case.... lol.
Or it might be the bigoted psycho that I blocked earlier in the week.
A lot of shit on eBay. Thanks
Tons of it... lol.
