I have the same case. However, when you got the work permit, was there any note mentioned on it that the work permit can be extended or it showed somewhere that you can apply for work-permit extension.
I had already sent my documents last week and they were received on Aug 28. I haven’t been contacted by IRCC yet. I’m skeptikel and doubtful on the amount of time they’re gonna take to update me and process my file. Shall I apply online too just to be on a safer side or it will be a blunder to double apply ? Pls clarify … thanks

One important question , Why have you selected current status as student in the initial question before the form? Should it not be worker as you already have a work permit and you have completed your studies?

Absolutely, you can continue working until a decision is made. Make sure that you submit your extension application before your pgwp expires. You will get a notification letter about it too that you can work continue working after you submit your application.

If you answer “Apply for a work permit with the same employer” it won’t mean that it is work specific or closed work permit as when you chose the type of work permit you are applying you will choose PGWP with this reference please check my guide how to fill out imm5710 due to passport expiry document. Unless you choose other or employer specific type of work permit then your permit will be closed work permit. Please review link below.

Because I got this job recently for which I can attach the offer letter as well as I can add the info for the employer in the form. Can the PGWP extension (due to prior passport expiration) be applied outside Canada? I am confused because the application form generated for the application (IMM 5710) lists the current place of residence as 'Canada' which can not be changed. I can not reach out to IRCC as well since the number can be reached only within Canada and the email response was generic. Specifically, Should I be submitting the IMM 1295 (applying work permit outside Canada) or IMM 5710 (applying for work permit in Canada applicants) form when applying for a post-graduate work permit extension (due to prior passport expiry) while residing outside of Canada?

@gabbatac try to do a follow up on your passport if possible to get it asap. The important thing is as long as you received your passport and applied for your pgwp extension (before your current pgwp expires) then you are safe. If due to circumstances your passport haven’t arrive and your pgwp expires already I recommend to call IRCC to seek guidance about it especially you might fall under restoration of your status. Please call them prior, not when you already have expired PGWP.

Hi 👋 Negative effect, I don’t think so. Once you have the initial pgwp the study permit is no longer relevant for the extension.

Hi @VikashSridhar No it doesn’t mean that way. I called IRCC and they guided me in answering IMM5710. Checking the apply for a work permit with the same employer means that you initially applied for your pgwp and you are just extending it due to passport expiry. If you click the other one, the apply for work permit for the first time or new employer that will complicate things same way with the other options given.
I have 8 month course, so i was expecting 1 year pgwp, but get 1 year and 2 months.
So I ask for GCMS key they mentioned you are eligible for 3 years PGWP, 😊 so should I apply for similar PGWP extension???

Yes I did answer student. Watch my latest video about this answering the top 3 questions. Like what I mentioned on the video, answering the eligibility questionnaire is the same as when you initially apply for pgwp. You answer student as immigration status but in the form 5710 you answer worker as your current status.

Hi Anmol Singh, please renew your passport first, your current permit relies or linked on your passport validity. IRCC does not issue permits more than the passport validity. After that renew or extend your study permit. If you need details please message or email me. Thank you.

Transcript sent from my college mentioned that if the sealed envelope is opened then it will be considered as unofficial transcript. Is it find to upload transcript with this kind of mentioning on it?

Hi dear @vijaypatel thank you for your constructive feedback. Letter of completion is a letter from your school it is not the same as degree certificate. You need to ask your student services about your completion letter. You should received it first before the diploma or certificate.
Flagpoling is good but I don’t recommend due to you will miss the duration of waiting time. If you wanted your pgwp result fast flagpoling is good but you will miss the opportunity to get that extra 3 months of duration of processing. In general there’s an advantage and disadvantage of doing flagpoling. ☺️

Hello, my PGWP is expiring too. The question of "what type of work permit are you applying for?" Does it have to be PGWP or Open work permit since I am extending but not expiring passport? Because the other video that I've watch is he chose the open work permit. Thank you
I think that is another case. I believe IRCC release an instruction on how you can extend your pgwp (temporary policy) for those expired pgwp holder and can work for extra 18 months.

Hi dear, I think your new passport was made in India and was just issued in one of your embassy here in Canada. So answer India as your country of issuance. Likewise, I got my new passport issued here in Canada but when I asked the embassy they made our passports in our home country and shipped it here.

Hi dear, I don’t think there’s a need for you to upload your old passport and work permit. In the form 5710 you will provide your UCI in there which already associated with your old passport and other records. You can upload old paspsort/workpermit it along with letter of explanation too if you like but I recommend it is not necessary to upload the old passport and your initial work permit.

I didn’t upload 5583 checklist. Only if you are applying on paper. It is a requirement that you have to attached that checklist.

@KomalMistry Hi! From what I know as long as you submit your extension application before your pgwp expires you are in implied status. I just applied a few days ago and I received a notification from IRCC that they received my applicaiton and it is under review, and I am authorized to continue working until a decision is made.

You can apply online too. However in the website it clearly says to apply on paper. When I called IRCC they said it’s okay to apply only as long as you didn’t encounter any issues. 😉

Hi dear, it is confusing but you can apply online and I did apply online. However, there are some changes now with processing times unlike last year. You can contact ircc hotline to get an advise from them as well. 😉

I think you can do that at the border. You mean like flag poling. But it is not guaranteed, that they will give you the permit right away. You can always try. I heard that recently they recommend applicants to apply online.
Hi Mae, I am getting one error while submitting my application. I am an Indian national but I renewed my passport in Canada. So I added IND to the online questionnaire for the question country of nationality of your passport and Canada as a country of issue in PDF form- imm5710e as I renewed my passport in Canada. Since your initial PGWP was of a shorter duration, did they left any remark on your initial PGWP? I am reading online that you need to have a remark to extend your PGWP if it was issues for a shorter duration due to earlier passport expiry.

Hi @veenamenon2634 based on my experience you should still tick the apply with the same employer even though you are not working with them anymore. PGWP is an open work permit. This is just an indication that you initially applied already for it and did not get the full length.

Hi my passport expires on 2025 sep and i got my work permit stay back only till that passport expiry date when it was supposed to be till 2026 sep. When should i extend my permit ? and should i take a new passport in 2024 before applying for TRV? i was planning to go to India next year by November/December.

It's 255! I only paid 155 and they made me pay again and it slowed the process, I recommend paying everything upfront @pranesh-sekar

Your country of citizenship should be india and passport issue still India.

Hi @haleelsha335 it won’t let you validate the form you still have to put India as your country of issuance although you received it from Vancouver.
