At 12:19 Shepard says “You came up here because I asked you too. I want you here. With me” because he knows Tali loves, respects, and trusts him enough that she’s willing to anything he asks as soon as he asks. He clearly likes that trust.
At 16:46 Shepard says “I wasn’t going to ask” because he doesn’t want Tali to risk her life right after they achieved the one thing Tali always wanted, getting the homeworld back. He thinks that if he asks her to come with him she will do it just because she loves him and not because she thinks it’s best. He says he respects her, he means that he doesn’t want to treat her as just another soldier who he brings to battles just because he can but as someone he genuinely loves and respects as an equal, as someone who should make their own choice. It also shows how he instinctively thought about what’s best for her and her people, not what he personally wanted.
Tali responds with “So ask me! I don’t know much time we have left. I don’t know if we can beat the reapers. But whatever happens, I want to be with you.” What’s she saying to Shepard is “it doesn’t matter, what does matter is the time we could spend together. So since you respect me, you should ask me to stay”.
I like this development, and the tie back to an earlier moment, as it subtly shows how Shepard genuinely cares about Tali and respects her in a way that’s so real it doesn’t stand out until you look at it again. It also shows Tali’s development from being a young inexperienced girl with a crush on Shepard and viewing him as a role model, to being loving partners and equals. It is the best romance in my opinion for all of these reasons.
And it serves as a reminder that even though you control Shepard’s actions to a large extent, Shepard is still their own character with their own feelings and arcs with a degree of independence from the player similar to that of Geralt from The Witcher. And it works amazingly here.
Tali is my favorite character and romance in this series because you really fall in love with her as a person instead of just her looks like a lot of the other romance options plus I love her voice acting and her personality because she always has the people she cares about in her mind.
Yeah, to be honest, Tali has the best personality in Mass Effect.

12:45 Exactly how I see it! It's so awesome to see Tali genuinely grow older with each game and be more on one level with Shepard, who she always viewed solely as her superior or some kind of super hero who is infinitely far away from her reach. And in ME3, they are just friends with lots of well earned respect for each other. It's such a beautiful development, especially when you romance Tali.
Something you may have missed are the suit adaptations mentioned in the Shadow Broker DLC. Specifically how often and when she installed Nerve-Stim Pro to her suit, something that all responsible adults should have. Or so says an overheard conversation on Illium.
There are a couple of moments during the Rannoch level they missed. When you pull up to the Destroyer boss fight, she says: "If this doesn't, if we don't make it..."
"You worry too much."
"I love you."
"Keelah Se'lai."
And after the Destroyer gets it, she runs up and hugs you.
Tali is the only real crush I've ever had for a video games character. It felt so strange going down that path years ago haha. What she says during that last mission still breaks my heart today.

The greatest crime of mass effect 1 was not being able to romance Tali and Garrus
Raomance was kind of an afterthought in 1 to be fair it kind of was put in because with hos the genre moved it sort if became an exspectatio with their past kotor they were just exspected ro have a romance but it wasnt thought out very much
I kind of like the Fleet and Flotilla moment in the Citadel DLC - simply because the writers could have taken a cheap shot with Tali and ridicule her, but they don't go there at all. Even Renegade!Shepard's reply is teasing rather than dismissing her or calling her silly, and I honestly really like that.
Is it kind of awkward? Yeah. But you never feel like you laugh at Tali, it's more a "aaaaaw" kind of awkward.
There was a 'totally worth it' reference in DA Inquisition, when Varric gives Cassandra the book.
The moment shepherd takes of her mask/helmet she couldn’t hold back anymore because of how much she loves him and she was thinking “ finally”

Going through all three of the games I’ve done everything & the only thing that will break me every time is when tali says “ I have a home”. God even typing that made me have tears
I just finished the trilogy for the first time 2 days ago and my heart broke when she said that 😭
And with the amount of people who are actually mostly into the Tali romance, is a clear indication, that you really can fall in love with personality and not just cleavage.

About the Javik romance, it's not really a romance, it's a fling that happens between him and femshep in citadel DLC if you don't romance anyone in your playthrough (if you don't flirt with Vega either). It's pretty funny. 👌

I waited until the third game was released before I played through the series and Liara was my ME 1 partner. Tali’s glow up in the second game blindsided me though and I ended up romancing her in the second, I totally forgot about Liara in ME 3.
P.S her ending dialogue still hurts.

Tali's my go-to Bro-Shep romance. And as for the stock-photo (at 20:40 ); it was originally even worse (or so I heard; haven't confirmed). Apparently they had to make a last minute change because they forgot Quarians don't have five fingers.
That wasn't the reason. The reason was because it was just an altered stock-photo, nothing more, fans were mad that BioWare was so cheap they couldn't bother to make a real, genuine photo.

Tali is the cutest and most adorable of the entire crew, you have great moments with all the crewmembers: Garrus, Jack, Miranda, Wrex and Grunt, heck even Joker and EDI and those are some of the major players, even the side characters like Taynor have some good moments, sure, the facial animation leaves... much to be desired, but when it comes to character writing? BioWare is second to none and Tali just has the best lines, it is hard to just pick out one that strikes me as the best line, she has so many, the fact that she quotes her favorite cheesy romance vid at you when you first start romancing her, the way she always looks up to you and tries to do the right thing because you inspired her, heck in ME3, when she speaks to the Turian Ambassdor who treated her like shit, she still helps out when the Reapers invade their world and admits to you that she was this close to just exposing who she was to that Turian, to rub it in his face, but then she says that both had some growing up to do, and when you point out that the difference here was that she provided aid when it was needed while the Turian acted like a ass, she responds with just another line that hits you straight in the feels: 'The Difference.... was you.' And that is why I will always pick Tali.

That's why it looks the way it did. Casey Hudson saw how badly the team were stressing over what the quarians should look like and saw how little time they had left to finish everything else and literally created this stock photo by himself one day and just put it in the game.

When I first played Mass Effect 1 I romanced Liara. When I found out Tali could be romanced in 2 I replayed all of 1 again without romancing anyone just so I could romance Tali. :3
At first i didn't know you needed to romance tali in ME2 to be able to in ME3 so I spent the whole game trying to only to stumble upon her and Garrus late in the game flirting. Garrus didn't go on any more missions with me after I saw that. Traitor.

I hate how lazy they were when it came to revealing Tali’s face I also hate that they have no confidence in their original vision of what she looked like don’t get me wrong her looks was never the point to the romance and what we have she looks beautiful but the fact that other romances had full-fledged sex scenes with all the love and detail care, but for tally you get a picture of a stock photo and the reason behind it was because they didn’t think we would like her, even though you could romance Garrus the same game is really sad
i played through ME2 several times and I'd always be like "this time i'll romance someone other than Tali" but I could never help myself and I'd always go back to Tali lol. I'll say though Jack's romance was a close second
Oh man, the month that followed ME3's release was wild in the Bioware forums. While most people were roasting BW hard for the endings, you had us Talimancers tearing them a new one over the stock photo. It's not the appearance that was the problem- I think she's an Iranian model or something, and could pass for looking like how Tali sounds. It's the insult of low effort. Within around a year there were multiple mods fully animating her face and even adding lewd scenes. Now the devs decided to add a new artistic render to the LE version's photo frame. A nice sentiment, but too little too late: the internet already took their lunch.

Dude I just replayed mass effect legendary edition and during 2 I finally got to romance tali about during almost the end of the game 🎮 and I did then during the suicide mission I chose for her to do the door cause she is a TECH EXPERT 💔 and then cause I choose Jack to lead the Second Team she fuckin DIES LIKE WTF and I couldn't reload the save since I already saved after that choice but in my original playthorugh I chose for tali to do the door because shes a TECH EXPERT and I believe I choose for Miranda to lead the second team and she doesn't die LIKE WTF 💔 🙏 😢 😞 😭😭😭 how tf does that work i was so upset and pissed off bro I cried 😭

On my first playthrough of ME2 I knew Tali was a romance option, and I wanted to take it... I just didn't know she was straight (something I find weird considering Tali links suits with Fem Shep with the exact same dialogue).
Once I learned about that fact I went back to ME1, created a Male Shep and beat the game again...
Liara may be BioWare canon, but in mine Fem Shep romances Thane, then he sadly dies (I hate you, BioWare for killing the one man I was interested in) and Tali heals her heart.
Yeah, Tali is always my best girl and Garrus is always my best friend.
