Hey everyone, take a look at our brand new video of the very last days of this resort before it was completely demolished.

Bright Sun Films what amazes me is the sheer waste. I own some pieces of furniture just like those seen in the resort, which we all know it will not be long before the elements begin affecting them. I know what I paid for those pine Bombay style pine dressers, and I could not afford the armoire's they have to match them. What is the reasoning I wonder in not auctioning these things off. Yes in the long run it is not gonna solve the financial ruin, but seriously do it for respect for the craftsmanship, and the resources of wood, just a sad sad waste in my eyes!!😧😳😔

Well if you think about it, it would kind of make some sense to assume most explorers and their channels likely wouldn't be putting much if any focus at all on the history aspect, since it's not a history focused or based channel, but rather, exploration! Thus the exploring part is what take the emphasis, while the honest likelihood is, they wouldn't know or necessarily even care too much about the history, since that isn't what they're there for in the first place. So honestly, I think a informational and/or historic focused or based exploration channel would be what you should look for, since they'd be the ones focusing on that history you're looking for. Jake here is of the latter form, and he always has been. :)

Yes this channel, which I only found today, is one of a kind. The production values are very good and the history intermixed throughout propels this over the top. This is only my 3rd video I've seen on the channel and blew me away. 👍👍👍

Ah! That's a better analogy than my aliens beaming them up theory. And it is the Chernobyl disaster, BTW. The actual town affected is still named Pripyat.
The residents were told to ONLY carry personal documents and food for three days. ALL of them expected to return to their homes. Sad.

For me, there's always something so sad about abandoned resorts or residences and not just all the useful things that get left behind that could have been repurposed. It is that existential sense of lost potential and memories that were made and will now fade away in time.

I mean look at your 'Tennis View' sign... Look at the detail of that fancy quarter-round edging and the quaintness of the hand painted lettering, done sans stencil mind you... If you can't tell, I'm being sarcastic...YOUR SIGN SUCKS!
On the other hand my 'The Colony' sign is polished brass with raised lettering and the press-back insert allows for custom messages. I think it's clear who's sign is better.

Just look at "The Colony" now Gerald...all the names have fallen off from cheap adhesive and poor craftsmanship and the sign commemorates nobody! Thank you so much for the care that you had in showing this amazing resort. The history and stories helped bring it back to life. So sad to see the state that it was in just days before demolition and that items could not have been salvaged before hand. I was able to attend an estate sale on the property a few years back and found some mementos. This resort holds great memories for my family. We moved there in the summer of 1974. My father sold suit to Murf Clubber in Buffalo and hired my father to run the clothing store at the resort. Seeing the inside of the loft units really brought back memories. I have family photos of my brother and I hanging out the loft opening.

What a history and legacy. In 2019 after demolition the rats invaded St. Armand’s Circle, we drove out to the property where a single bouquet of flowers were stuck in the demo fencing. One way to help the homeless population to get back on their feet is to have them work and restore this resort. This would give them work experience, a place to stay, an address for job applications, a place to pay bills to rebuild their credit, build a community bank with micro-loans, a discount store, training to work in the service industry for other resorts, and a community of people with similar backgrounds that will naturally become a support group. This is not an original idea. There were many places like this during the Great Depression that helped many Americans to get back on their feet. Sometimes all we need is a little room to breathe and heal to build a new future.

    • @PresidentCamacho24
      @PresidentCamacho24 7 років тому +3

kyliemiu And you honestly think they would be considered as a serious candidate for those jobs in that exact moment in their lives? A homeless person has been scarred for life and needs opportunities to transition from homelessness back to being a home owner. An injured person needs a healthy place to recover. If you don't have the money for an address, phone number, a shower, bed, properly nourished, and clothes for those employers dress code you are not going to get a job let alone be keeping it. We need something better and a more robust system other than homeless shelters and soup kitchens. Think of it as an investment with more people paying back into the system and a more effective safety net for those that have been pushed onto the streets. With more and more jobs being automated to the rich getting richer and monopolies getting stronger, we need a better system.

I just found this video. I watched it with amazement. Our family owned property in Long Boat Key and I knew The Colony very well. Your video brought real tears remembering that place. I remember the restaurant and more to the point where your video ends just outside the main restaurant was the bar and grill. The burger was worth walking a mile down the beach to get it. Your shot in the area between the restaurant and the pool was the covered and not covered tables used to be. I loved that place. It was always upscale. You could wear athletic gear to the restaurant, but your shirt needed to have a collar. During lunch models from the shops would give fashion shows wearing the clothes and jewelry available at the shops. There was a piano player. Live music. I remember maybe 95-96 the natural event called the "red tide" where this thick algae would flair up in the ocean and kill tons of fish... the dead fish smell was everywhere and guests were choosing not to come because of it. So local business was down. I ate dinner here and looked out a window you show. I remember friends who worked here complaining because business was down that year because of the red tide. We had a condo just down the beach at another resort called Sea Place. We would walk down the beach and have beers and burgers. It was always a trick because you always had to have a collar shirt. I love this video. Thank you for it.

Not really surprising that it has sat vacant since they went bankrupt, LBK is simply hostile to any sort of commercial development. Too many retired NIMBYS vote and run the town boards.

Ronin Sherpa same here Robin. Every year for my birthday my cousin Nova's birthday and Lisa's birthday because our birthdays were all in the same month and very close together. My stepfather or my friends parents would take us to brunch for our birthdays every year since I can remember. I remember the last brunch birthday brunch at The Colony. I remember the long matchbook matches that were green in color. I remember they made fresh waffles right in front of you with every single topping you could imagine. The brunches Sunday brunches were amazing especially on our birthdays. My mother would go to the Colony most of her life. And so did I. I really do miss the colony and it breaks my heart I could not watch this video for like a week I started to watch it and I had to stop it broke my heart it breaks my heart. My friend.

I rarely feel strong emotions for urban exploration videos, but this was so tastefully done and with so much heart. The videos of the people, the photographs...I actually teared up. Thank you for making this.

OHMYGOD. Finally someone explored this place... I'm from Sarasota and we got to stay here the last day of operation. I explored it back in 2014 when it was even more preserved! I'm so glad a major Urbex youtuber got it before they turn it into condos. I can't believe you pulled it off! Security there has been crazy recently. Boy, it's eerie seeing the pool I swam in throughout my childhood, and the beach i built sandcastles on... on an urbex channel.
Also, as you added, the tension between the unit owners and Klauber have been making local news headlines or 7 years which most likely explains why so many people's stuff (especially in the 2-story units) has been left behind.
On a not-so-nostalgic note, when i was 8, i jumped off that fishing pier during low tide and twisted my angle :")

Since you stayed the last day any reason why some people left leaving their luggage. From the looks of some of the rooms looks like they were being rushed out in a hurry because of outside forces.

Not 100% sure but Im pretty sure owners of the condos were told to leave and were under the assumption that they would be able to come back at some point. For whatever reason, they never were. Very strange though

This is so sad. Anytime there is stuff left behind it makes me feel like there are people out there who would probably love to have this piece of history from their friends/family. I find it exciting to watch people who explore and would love to do so myself but i am always so afraid. I was raised to not touch things that are not yours or destroy it. I love that you and so many others explore yet still REPECT everything you come across. Warms my heart

when I see (the video not your comment) stuff like this, I think how they could give people down on their luck "X amount of time free stay" (once parts of it are up to different codes) ... in exchange for these people HELPING clean stuff up, clear stuff out, paint ...etc etc

i was born and raised in sarasota, florida. i wasn't very old when this place shut down, but i remember my mom talking about it happening. it's so jarring to see it, because the occasional time we did see it when going somewhere, she would always mention it. it's weird to actually see the inside of a building i saw the exterior of so many times before.
also, i didn't know this place was being renovated until i read a comment about it! i'm happy to see something's getting done with the property, even if it's just being torn down and rebuilt lol. i never really saw this place when it was thriving, but i would love to see it like that, even if it's only in what i hear from the family that still lives in sarasota.
( for reference, i now live in colorado, so i can't just drop by my hometown whenever i want to lol. )

I remember back in the late 80's and early 90's when The Colony was an amazing place to be when you were on Longboat Key!! The Monkey Room served wonderful food and drinks, there was always something fun going on... It is a real shame that this great piece of history is now gone... But those of us who spent many wonderful times there, we will never forget the great memories we made there!!

Your soundtrack alone creeps me out, as it goes back and forth between eerie silence and distant sounding, howling, yet musical winds afar off in a distant valley. Then, all of a sudden for an unusually brief moment you play a little Carribean islander music while showing a beach Tiki ramada.
