What I'd love to see in your 101 series is an in-depth explanation of nailpolish finishes. I get especially confused with the glitter ones (shimmer, pearly, microshimmer, microflakie, reflective, hex glitter etc. Etc.). I think a comparison would be very helpful for me and knowing your swatch videos it would be a relaxing one for sure 😅 Love the 101 videos! And also, your makeup looks absolutely gorgeous, love the contrasting combo ❤
When I'm at a loss as to what to do for an accent nail, I turn to my handy dandy dotting tools. I'll do 4 nails in a darker solid, the do a lighter color on the accent nail. Then I'll pick a third color and dot the darker and third colors on the light nail. Always get compliments!
Ahh thank you so much! I've been in a colorful mood haha! But it does make me want to go back to the blonde streak in my hair so I don't clash as much 😂😂
@@KelliMarissa I don't feel like you're clashing... Your red streak coordinates quite well with your lip color. I love the bright colorful-ness. You do look stunning!
I love using different size dotting tools with different colors of polish. So I'll paint my nails white and make big pink dots, medium purple dots, and small blue dots. Then I don't have to worry about them being uniform. Also doing partial dots is fun. I love a good dot going off the edge of the nails or cuticles.
I would love a compilation video of dotting ideas. I did rainbow dots for pride last year. But I just free handed them with the brush. But I have a dotting tool now and would love to try some new ideas. Love your content Kelli! 😊
I do pride flag dots too! My favorite is to paint the nail black and then dot white dots in a row (however many I need for the flag I'm doing) and then go over those with the color polishes so they actually show up on the black. Also looks nice on a white or metallic nail, but I really like black :) My other dot manicure favorite is to put a row of 3 dots descending from the cuticle in a fun color on either a bare nail, or as a contrast over another color. For this one, I don't re-dip so they graduate down in size
I've been wanting to get the Holo Taco Nail dotting tools. I might actually get them my next order now. Ona side note, I love your makeup and eyeshadow color! 💚💚💚🥰
Whenever I do a French manicure and free-hand the tips, I always keep my tiny dotting tool handy just in case - not to help with the tips, but to help camoflauge any wonky tip lines if they happen. Just pick a third color of polish (or a bunch of colors - I've done a rainbow of dots over a pearlescent French mani), and dot right along the tip of the nail where it meets the sheer color. I like to make my first dot in the center and then space them out from there so they're even, and voila! Now your French tip looks like it was even the whole time and you have cute dots to accent it. Doing this made me more confident in doing French manis free-hand, so now I usually don't have anything to cover up, but sometimes I like to do the dots anyway bc they're cute and fun.
I love watching your nail art videos. Especially simple ones like doticures. One I’ve watched many times is the one where you do dots or other designs with a glossy topcoat over a matte base color.
I bought a dotting tool kit a while back, but haven’t used it all too much other than to grab large flakes. Would you consider doing a nail art video that features designs specially from dotting tools?
Dotting tools was my first form of nail art. It really is beginner friendly and you can do so much with them. I’ve come a long way since then, but still use them from time to time.
I am so bad at dip dot dip dot. Thank you again for another informative video. I completely agree with you on the dotting tools vs stripping tape. Exact same reason.
Firstly, your eye shadow and lipstick combo are amazing. Second, I can't do nail art but I can manage a dotting tool at least. I love this deep dive of tips!
Very timely in my case. I never do nail art but I impulse bot a set of dotting tools at Dollar Tree ... three of them, I think each has a different size on each end. I got home and am like ... what am I going to do with these? LOL now I have ideas
Great info! I’ve never used dotting tools, although I have some and have wanted to try. Your video covers things I haven’t even thought about. Super helpful!
Thanks Kelli, this is very helpful and timely for me. So far I've only used a dotting tool to apply clear polish to attach rhinestones. Looking forward to trying it with colour. (Currently wearing I Scream Nails "Daydream" neon red with a tiny, silver rhinestone on each nail, centred at the cuticle).
Long time 😢 I hope this finds you well. Wow! I needed this. I literally gave up dots. And I realized I was pushing dwn too hard. And the dot looked nothing like a dot. I will retry. Thank you so much for the wonderful content. I would love for you to dive deeper into dots. Please do. Be well
Thank you thank you!! I do have a semi recent video on striping tape 101 here - ua-cam.com/video/YYDxFKzB6Rs/v-deo.html. I might tackle some more 3 dimensional nail art stuff next 👀😜
That's my problem. I push too hard. Need to practice more. Dotting tools are the easiest thing to use for nail art.. I am not good at trying freehand. I'm not steady enough. Thanks for this video Kelli. Would love that compilation. Not good with ideas lol. ❤ striping tape is hard for me to get placed properly.
Any tips on using striping tape Kelli. Just used some and oh my word, so frustrating. Difficult to find the beginning of the tape and trying to get a straight line on my none dominant hand was a nightmare. Just to add insult to injury the tape came off one nail despite two coats of top coat. Thanks for the dotting tool tips. X
I'm just picturing a light coloured base and then dotting translucent polish in several layers on top, not covering all of the previous dots but some, so you would f.x. dot with cyan, magenta and yellow and thus get green, purple and orange dots on top😍
I totally agree with you on the dotting tool vrs. striping tape: the effects you can achieve with striping tape are so cool, but they have to be totally planned & have time available for it. There's something nice about the grab-and-go ease of dotting tool embellishments!❤
Nice video!! I need to stop getting new dotting tools as one person does not need 5+ sets lol. I'd love to see a Nail Polish 101 on tips and design ideas for nail washi tape (I still have the set I purchased from Cirque years ago and haven't used them much). I agree as well, I love the final result of manicures done with striping tape, but I end up using dotting tools way more often for the convenience.
This was very helpful. I'm a person who didn't continuously dip and got different size dots, so great tip. I concur about doing a 101 video on the use of striping tape
