What Steve Greene said about Pete Hines’ playing is powerfully elegant and so true!
I saw Handsome in 1997 at the State Theater in Detroit opening for Silverchair. Handsome was great!
I was in a band and remember thinking to myself " I want to do something like this. "
A few years too many went by, and then I finally got their self-titled cd. Hearing that music brought me back to that night. It was as good as I remember. Totally underated band.
Great interview guys!
Thank you very much. Always wish there was another album.
Cheers Tom! I was also at that show! I was in front, right against the barricade and there were only Silverchajr fans around me. After Handsome’s set, II told these two girls they could take my spot. They were so happy. 🤘Fantastic show!
Yeah, it was a fantastic show.
Local H was massive sounding while only being two players.
Silverchair's Helmet/Soundgarden influence was showing on that album they were touring for too.
Great night for loud heavy rock.
How can you not love Peter Mengede!? Great interview! I heard HELMET for the first time back in '92... and my entire focus on music completely changed. Incredible. I still have my HANDSOME cassette!
Thank you!
You should get page on next
Dude!!!! I freaking knew there was an off note in Unsung that Pete said they wouldn’t let him fix!!! It’s in the outro!!!! He accidentally hit fret 1 instead of two lol I love that man great interview
🤘
Hell yeah! Little bits of imperfections and humanness on records are sometimes the best parts.
One of the craziest show I've been to was the Ministry, Helmet & Sepultura show. We were up front for Sepultura and when the show started, we were being completely crushed against the barricades. When we got out we realized the there was shit-tons of skinheads everywhere. Super scary sharing a pit with uber-violent 6 foot 4 skinheads. Made it out alive...
Wonderful interview guys!
Keep it up!
Thank you! 🙌
Scary! You lived to tell the tale.
I've been saying for a long time now, Helmet & Beastie Boys 1994 in my home town in South Australia is my all time live show. Ill Communication was brand new & we were still vibing off Check your Head. They played Sabotage as encore and in that break where the music cuts out and it comes back with that huge bass slide and riff, all the light in the venue dropped out and this one spotlight came up on MCA who switched to this American flag double bass, coming back in with that bass slide, it was peak cool for 19 year old me. Also, can testify to the Detroit influence down here and not just in Rock n Roll & Punk - in the early 90s we had a few members of Detroit techno pioneers Underground Resistance take up residence for a year or so. They brought a dark, machine like dirtiness to our club scene and both inspired and helped a lot of local artists to get started making electronic music. Shout out to Claude Young (2120) who DJ'd at my 18th. Lastly, if I can recommend something local in the vein of Helmet, Mark of Cain were active around the same time and have a banger of an album 'Ill at Ease' which Henry Rollins produced, right around when Rollins Band were hot with the Weight album.
Man, that really sounds like one of those magical musical moments that I hope everyone gets to experience.
No doubt about the techno influence. Detroit Techno really did influence folks all over the globe.
That's an incredible show to have in your repertoire!
Awesome man! I’ll check out Mark of Cain. And Beastie Boys are in my top 5 bands ever!
That was an awesome interview. Instant fan of this channel.
Hey Jason! Thank you and welcome! Lots of episodes and new music on the way. 🤜💥🤛

@@SteveGreene Hey Steve!

Big Day Out Melbourne; I was there! Awesome festival and got smashed in the Helmet pit!
Hell yeah! Sounds like it was a smashing good time! ;)
I was at that Detroit show too at the Shelter, with Orange 9 and Unsane!!!🔥
They don’t make shows like that anymore that’s for sure.🤣
Amazing show!
handsome were amazing, granted I was into helmet first but I was really glad to see he went on to do something else that was just as cool.
Absolutely! It’s great to call up some of their live sets on UA-cam and relive the Handsome magic!
This conversation was freakin’ amazing to stumble across! Thank you!
Cheers! Thanks for hangin out. 🤟

36:31 Henry and Jon 200k in debt to interscope 😳 how does that happen? Wish he would elaborate
They absolutely blew Melvins away at Heidelberg. Guess he knew that lol.
So very cool to have someone who was there (besides Peter) Welcome and thank you for your comment! That was before my concert going times, but that must have been an amazing show!
🤘
So sick Hines next
That would be amazing!
Eddie Nappi would be better
Thanks for this!
For sure! The behind the scenes elements were so great. 🙌
🤘

Now I gotta check out handsome
@@joecady-metal9037 Yes you do! 🙌
Thanks man! Such an incredible opportunity to gain some wisdom from a seasoned pro!
@@joecady-metal9037 discovered handsome about 6 months ago. cannot get enough!
great interview
Thanks ever so much!
Are you guys talking about Heidelberg in Ann Arbor?
Yes indeed!
What is Peter going on about? He didn’t pay his taxes on bad advice? How does that relate to the lawsuit? I recall at the time reports said he believed he owned his gear. I don’t understand his explanation.
Greg talks enough in meetings at work LMAO.
